I'm the only straight male PopGaffer. So maybe I'm wrong, but I think it means us straight men.

You're not the only straight one.

What does THOT mean?
Another word for "ho"

fucking ew

the fact i have to do this again after retiring from popgaf:

Rihanna can singlehandedly change the fabric of the music industry every time she makes a comeback. From Umbrella to We Found Love to Diamonds to now, FourFiveSeconds. She is constantly setting the trend in music rather than following the trend. She constantly reinvents her persona to fit every era. She constantly improves her live performances as time goes by. She is undisuputably one of the most influential women in music today as well as having established pillars in other industries: to her River Island fashion line, her MAC cosmetic collection, her budding filmography, and her status as recognized fashion icon.

Rihanna will leave a LEGACY. We even have other copycat artists such as Rita Ora trying to swagger jack Rihanna's image. We can see her influence on budding starlets today. Even Ariana Grande is starting to shed her good girl image in favor of being known as a baddie, all because of Rihanna's impact.

Now to address her talent: who else can captivate her audience for a decade without faltering once? She had humble beginnings with Pon de Replay, allowing her room to develop into the gigantic pop phenonmenon she is today. Her vocal timbre is recognizable, her stage presence is only outmatched by Beyoncé, and she has songwriting credits on every album. She has the Midas touch, able to craft hits with ease. She has experimented with every genre as well: rock, dancepop, EDM, R&B, country, etc. Who else can say that?

Only the pop icon of our generation:

Robyn Rihanna Fenty.

Bow down.

EDIT: I wish I could DRAG the scalp of every STR8 in here but unfortunately I am in CLASS on MOBILE. So unfortunately your wigs will have to remain intact. COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS. I WILL humble you

god i'm so happy i woke up to this

bless you, sis

When some people say "straights" or "str8", they're referring to the generalized non-pop male listeners who are heterosexual.

Okay, I would strongly caution against this. I understand Ties' post was satirical, but that is clearly over the line as to what we will accept as appropriate satire.

Is that like... Derogatory?

I don't use the term myself, but it's not meant to be derogatory. It's just that some males who are only interested in only female pop artists and are involved in pop stan culture are stereotyped in a way of being "heterosexual". I don't agree with it, because music preference doesn't prove sexuality.

I understand. I wasn't speaking for myself in that case. As a straight male, I don't use any terms that emphasizes one's sexuality as far as labeling goes.

is talking about 'white people' in a generalised, comical manner also cautionable?

Queen beebler THOT process is like a 2 step authentication from this jugular. Basic bitch.

popgaf scares me yo.

Um... this is not about comparing acting and music but rather comparing Leo and rihanna. My original point was not even about hard work but talent. Leo is where he is because he is a good actor. He is not coasting by titillating or acting glamarous. Rihanna in my opinion is not a talented singer. She is just like other pop singers in today's age who absolutely need to look good and titilate to succeed in the medium. Obviously all of this requires hardwork but I do not think as a musician ( the art form she represents ) she is talented. She probably knows it which is why she has to go through all the trouble of making raunchy videos ever so often because her music is bankrupt. Most mainstream modern music is actually these days but she represents the pinnacle of this trend.

...so, I take it you missed that decade where Leo "coasted by" on being a teen heartthrob?

I don't want my 4 year old daughter to see Rihanna's video's and think that is OK behavior in the real world. To be fair, I think most popsingers try to stay in the picture by doing saucy stuff in their vids or on Instagram or whatever. These people are attention hungry and do anything for it.

"Phresh Out The Runway" is the "Sound and Vision" of our generation.

Apparently being a pop singer, the world gets handed to you on a silver platter by just looking good vs being and actor where you have to work so much harder for everything . Wow
...so, I take it you missed that decade where Leo "coasted by" on being a teen heartthrob?

Expose.

In both careers the majority of the time you have to be attractive and talented to succeed. Leo is no exception.

If someone said "I will drag the scalp of every white person in here?"

Absolutely, yes. And black people. And women. And Jews. Insert your group here.

that wasn't a threat of physical harm though, it was saying that he will verbally admonish people

Literally patriarchy.

What is going in this thread?

Can't we be happy for Leo getting united with Rihanna's gloriousness?

It's not like if any of us are gonna get a shot

What videos? Rihanna is incredible tame compared to other artists like Miley and even Beyonce.

We are talking about Rihanna, not Rita Ora.

Leo is good looking but flaunting his body or good looks is not the reason his movies are good. He acts well. I would argue Rihanna's music seems to be exactly the opposite - Her good looks explicitly flaunted in most of her music with the actual music taking a back seat. This is not anything new for most modern music though. I mean Iggy would not have a chance to have this much success if it were not for her looks and how she dresses in these videos. I think this need arises simply because the core which is the music is lacking and pop stars these days need to compensate for that by fluff for distraction which has nothing to do with the music in the first place.

What videos? Rihanna is incredible tame compared to other artists like Miley and even Beyonce.

We are talking about Rihanna, not Rita Ora.

No argument there. They are most certainly worse than Rihanna in that department.

Singers should foremost promote their music, their art. When they use their body or Instagram to compensate for their art, something is clearly lacking.

Okay. It's inappropriate. Don't do it.

Please note that I do not mind PopGAF generally. Have fun however you want.

does this prohibition on popgaf slang also extend to the popgaf thread too?

with our warden modmei now missing we need direct clarification on this

Rihanna: 13 #1 hits and 150 million records sold.

Leo: 0 oscars

tumblr_inline_n1h630gxPN1rt7tb9.gif

And how many ticket sales and number one box office movies did Leo have? Seems weird to compare someone's revenue and sales success to a specific award show's statues.

Edit oops, didn't realize this was a seven page thread....

It's going to depend on context. I'd be cautious of popgaf becoming overly internalized, however. I think some people are beginning to feel that popgaf is unwelcoming to outsiders the way some sports gaf threads have; one of the first signs of this behavior is when threads develop their own jargon, particularly regarding those who are not part of the "in" group.

Please note that I have no problem with people enjoying (e.g.) Rihanna's music, I just don't want that group to become hostile and unwelcoming to those on the outside looking in.

Do you mind if I PM you about something?

Go right ahead.
