Never saw him on stage. I planned to buy tickets for the February concert in Offenbach. Guess I will save that money.

Bye, you magnificent bastard. Greatest authentic Rock'n'Roller in my book.

I'm guessing he probably had the cancer for around a year or something? Considering this is how he looked in 2014.

And then late 2014.

He sounded frail in his recent appearance on Marc Maron's WTF podcast. Was a fantastic interview though, even to someone with fairly limited knowledge of Lemmy's career and Motörhead.

Diagnosed sure, but he probably had it for a lot longer before getting checked out.

Yeah I am thinking the same thing. He didnt go to a doctor until it was way too late. Who knows. Probably not the best thing to talk about.

So..... what exactly where those lumps on his cheek anyway? Just warts or something else? Some times they where small, sometimes huge and really distracting. Surprised he never got them removed but Lemmy gonna Lemmy.

I think that he and his family were aware of severity of his illness, but he probably wanted to keep it private as long as he could and kept rocking on until the end \m/

Bet you're scared of dying, scared of death,
Think you might choke on your final breath,
Wanna go to Heaven, scared of Hell
Scared of the Devil and his tail as well,
Ain't no insurance for the final ride,
No photo finish, nobody to bribe,
Baby, I know only you can live your life,
And there is only you can do it right.

Devastated by this, I've followed Motorhead for more of my life than I can remember. I met him at a club after a gig back in the late 90s and it struck me at that moment that everyone else into rock 'n' roll is a pretender, it's all a show. Lemmy was the real deal.

Rocking my "Wörld Is Yours" shirt at work today!

The fact he seemed to die so fast after his diagnosis is a reminder of that "here today, gone tomorrow" state of reality.

Cherish every moment for what it is, friends. You do not when dissolution is in the cards.

Yep, it can happen. My grandpa died in the early 90s, they diagnosed him on a Saturday and he was dead by that Tuesday.

I've got basically a circle of gaming friends that's been together since diablo 2/WC3, after our WoW days we drifted apart a little gaming-wise but still kept in touch. Last year we found out one of us had been diagnosed and passed away so fast he didn't even have time to let anyone know. It was maybe a few days if that. We found out a month or so after the fact when we started to get worried.

He was a couple years younger than me, even. In the back of my mind I always thought that stuff like cancer was mostly for old people to worry about but it's a real wake up call. Went in for a checkup shortly afterwards.

RIP

I've never actually listened to much Motorhead beyond Ace of Spades but I love his contributions to Hawkwind

will seek out some moto today

No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith (1981) is one of the greatest live albums ever recorded. Three dudes power-blasting early speed metal with no gimmicks. Highly recommended.

Everyone will mention the early classics but don't miss out on the Lemmy/Phil Campbell/Mickey Dee stuff. By far the most prolific line-up of the band (12 albums together if you include Bastards and Sacrifice which also featured Wurzel) and all of it is great.

The only album you can 100% skip is March or Die.

Looks like stomach cancer that will take you out really quick, he was probably throwing up and thought it was just alcohol etc. Its pretty hard to detect early on aswell, usually diagnosed in Stage 4.

RIP. Never knew any of Motorhead's music beyond the song "Ace of Spades", but the band was definitely big. The music world lost a major player.

I should at least discover some more Motorhead tracks at some point.

Saw them in June at Rock am Ring.
He didn't look as good as a few years ago, but he seemed happy. Talk quite much, made a few jokes.

Sad thing.
But he really lived a life, not many will have.

Rip.

Mikkey Dee has confirmed motorhead are no more now lemmy has passed.

“Motorhead is over, of course. Lemmy was Motorhead,” Dee says. “We won’t be doing any more tours or anything. And there won’t be any more records. But the brand survives, and Lemmy lives on in the hearts of everyone.”

obvious but still so sad to hear ):

also this from lars shows how fast this shit happend

When I heard Lemmy had died, I was home at the tail end of a family Christmas celebration. I was speaking to a friend of mine yesterday who knows Motörhead's manager very well and he told me that things were not well and maybe I should consider going down to L.A. to see him and pay my respects. The cancer was very aggressive, and it was end stage and there probably wasn't a lot of time left. That was at 1 p.m. and then I guess I heard the news around 6 p.m. That was crazy.

lots more from lars here too

Lemmy, you are one of the primary reasons this band exists. We're forever grateful for all of your inspiration. RIP

Rock and roll flowed through his veins.

Jailbait:

Teenage baby, you're a sweet young thing
Still tied to mama's apron strings
I don't even dare to ask your age
Just enough to know you're here backstage
You're jailbait and I just can't wait
Jailbait, baby come on

Hey!

One taste, baby all I need
My decision made at lightning speed
I don't even want to know your name
It's enough to know you feel the same
Jailbait and I just can't wait
Jailbait baby, get down

Hey!

Love that young stuff

Tell me baby, how you look so fine
Send quivers up and down my spine
I don't care about our different ages
I'm an open book with well-thumbed pages
Jailbait, I ain't too late
Jailbait baby, get down

All right!

God damn that's how fast he went huh? I bet Lars and the rest of the guys are wishing they were able to go and see him to say goodbye.

I call BS. Conspiracy on my part but he knew it. There's nothing he wanted more than to end his life while on the road. He wanted to give his life to his cause. He did. Much sadness. Still can't get over it.

oh god dammit

Todd Singerman said the former frontman was feeling unwell and went to hospital on December 15, two days after an early birthday party at a Los Angeles club

Doctors carried out brain scans as Kilmister's speech was "seeming a little odd" and it was feared he'd had a stroke,

Kilmister was released from hospital, before receiving his diagnosis days later.

"After the brain scan, they found the cancer in his brain and his neck ... The doctor comes with the result a couple of days later and says ... it's terminal," Singerman said.

"Nobody had any idea, we just learned Saturday, two days ago, that he even had cancer and the doctor told him he had between two to six months to live.

doctors miss judged big time
