Let's discuss the Super Mario Odyssey main theme!

Love the music

Koizumi's reddit AMA pretty much confirms it's Pauline singing:

Q: How did the theme song "Let's Do the Odyssey" / "I'll Be Your 1-Up Girl" come about?

Koizumi: As we were developing Pauline more as a character, we know that she was going to be interested in jazz. It was interesting for us to have the first song in a Mario game with vocals. Have you guys been finding yourself singing it?
Note in that exchange that Koizumi brought up Pauline — not the person asking.

Ruins the trailer for me. (great trailer if I put it on mute)

Not a fan of the music/genre. Definitely not a fan of the vocals. I like music that does not feature lyrics.

I love the song and the lyrics, and the reference to old Donkey Kong make it even better ; that's the level of production and attention to detail I expect from Nintendo.

I thought it was absolutely awful lol

Yeah, I can't wait for this game but I thought this theme was completely terrible. My wife doesn't pay much attention to games but when she heard this during the E3 footage she asked what the hell this awful song was. Even she thought it was out of place for Mario.

I actually think the music itself is pretty good, but the vocals were a really bad choice. I'm okay with cheesy, but this is a bit too far on the side of "children's TV show theme".

Is there a Japanese version of the song somewhere? You can really tell that the song's melody was written first in Japanese and just translated into English.

Absolutely hate it. If it is in the game there better be an option to turn it off. If I want wannabe J-Pop in my game I'll play one of the many games designed to include it. As a song in itself, still hate it but given it has more than 4 lines of lyrics and an actual structure it beats teen pop music these days.

The goat song for me so far is the Steam Garden theme. A hint of jazz, a hint of drum'n bass, and a smooth groove. I can keep this on repeat.
It's so untraditional SMB, yet so perfectly fitting. Somehow the music blends really well with the aesthetic of Steam Garden; the red steel constructions with plants growing here and there.

Damn, Pauline has a fantastic voice. Mario made a horrible mistake dumping her, now she's a mayor with a fantastic voice. Watch as Pauline (& Bowser's wedding-planning rabbits) ends up as DLC in MK8D or in the base roster of MK9.

But yeah, the song is really damn good.

First time listening to this. Goosebumps.

It's been stuck in my head since Tuesday. Reminds me of how a lot of Sonic games (though not many recent ones) had theme songs. I loved those too despite how cheesy they were.

How on earth do you think this is "wannabe J-Pop"? Like it or not, it has nothing to do with J-Pop.

wannabe J-Pop? What on earth.

Do you even know what J-Pop sounds like?

It's soo good. I never thought they would ever top Galaxy theme for me.

The Galaxy themes are more epic but I like Odyssey for an entirely different reason.

Nintendo era switch is reminding me so much of Wii era Nintendo. I hope they learned all the right lessons as well because I skipped Wii U era Nintendo entirely. We don't speak of it.
