Let's predict what the world will be like in the year 2500

There's no way this species will survive that long. Keep living in your scifi fantasy while we piss away our long term survival.

Our sun will be in a Dyson Sphere/ring that we will all live on as well. Mars, Earth, Mercury, mars and Venus will all be torn apart to make it.

We will have worm holes in Jupiter and Saturn to other galaxies perhaps. We will be immortal for all intents and purposes and have began doing things with our nigh unlimited energy from the Dyson ring that would be so shocking us modern men would pass out from amazement.

Holodeck tech will be so advanced people will "marry' their fully sentient hard light husband/wife. People will splice themselves with animals/insects.

We'll probably be a space faring civilization by that point...

Most people will live in virtual space, allowing for dramatic information and experiential expansion, unbounded by the limits of physical space.

We'll exist as a plethora of species - original human, augmented humans, cyborgs, AI minds, etc.

Post Scarcity, post singularity - the only conflicts that occur, occur because we desire it to be so - for experiential purposes.

Closer to Iain M Banks The Culture than not.

Assuming we survive this century.

This. Banks really put a lot of thought into what the future could be.

Smog, sealed mega-high rise buildings and direct neural inputs for technology seem like easy picks.

I'm of the opinion that a "sudden violent takeover" by AI is less likely than humanity gradually augmenting themselves with technology to the point where we become the AI and the AI becomes us. Whatever religion is left in the future will debate the ethics of "natural humans" with conservative politicians arguing against "impure" biological enhancements that weren't designed by God. This ideology will of course die out once people realize that integrating with technology in such a way dramatically increases your lifespan.

based on whats happening with climate change and geopolitics, i'd say we'd tear each other apart in 500 years

there'll be constant war for resources like water and clean air

I really like this quote from a recent Wait But Why post:

2365 AD, Ganymede

One more day until departure. It was so surreal to picture actually being there that she still didn’t really believe it would happen. All those things she had always heard about—buildings that were constructed hundreds of years before the first human set foot on Ganymede; animals the size of a house; oceans the size of her whole world; tropical beaches; the famous blue sky; the giant sun that’s so close it can burn your skin; and the weirdest part—no Jupiter hovering overhead. Having seen it all in so many movies, she felt like she was going to visit a legendary movie set. It was too much to think about all at once. For now, she just had to focus on making sure she had everything she needed and saying goodbye to everyone—it would be a long time before she would see them again…

Well, that's not for Earth per se, but the human culture. Some people who won't even be born here, but in other, distant places, to the point that Earth will be almost a myth, and maybe even forgotten if humanity goes further than our solar system.

This thread is an interesting case study on the huge amount of bitter, jaded, deterministic idiots on neogaf, who are already resigned to a doomed world.

Humans are great guys, in case you forgot.

Every fucking thread about the future, neogaf never disappoints with this ultra-cynicism. You guys are just as bad as people who really think the future is going to be a Star Trek utopia, or that a Star Trek utopia would actually be a good thing.

Personally, I think the Expanse is going to be pretty accurate. We'll probably still be stuck without FTL travel, so beyond the solar system might be impossible, but mining for resources in the solar system will be in full swing. Earth will be really overpopulated, which is what drives the colonization of the rest of the solar system. Mars colonization will also be going strong, although not sure if it will be as big of a military super power as it is in the novels (not sure if 500 years is enough time to fully colonize Mars), but there will definitely be a lot of conflict over treatment of colonies by Earth and ownership over resources.

To be entirely honest, I think we are far more likely to destroy the Earth during this period than with nuclear weapons in the 21st century. Assuming we have powerful enough engines, the math isn't exactly difficult to nudge asteroids into collisions with the Earth, which with enough mass could have many times more the destructive power of a nuke. Not to mention, asteroids are a lot more plentiful than nuclear weapons (All of which is touched on in the books actually).

After that, eventually (even if Earth is destroyed, the Human Race would probably be able to survive), I'm pretty sure the Human race would become exactly this:

I have no idea. And it's sad to realize i'll never know because i'll be long gone.
I wish i could exist in some form to see how things will be in the future.

By 2500 hmm..I'm saying, based on fuck all, that we're still duking it out on planet Earth.
AI-Human integration is a thing, as are advanced cybernetics, maybe even mind uploading. Poverty and material scarcity are still a thing. We survived a handful of "controlled" nuclear wars, pulling together Star Trek style after them. Basic lifeforms were found on the outer moons of the Solar System. We partially terraformed some planets in our system, but FTL is still out of our grasp and the majority of humans still lives here. We have embarked on the construction of a primitive dyson sphere but it will take centuries to make it fully functional.

Ocean life will be completely dead. Maybe some deep sea life, but definitely something close to the Permian extinction. The planet will be warmer than normal. A lot of coastal cities will be underwater. Plant life will be very different, cause those that can't adapt to the temperature will die out, but others that thrive in the heat will prosper. Most of the planets animals will be dead and/or dying. Maybe a big mammal extinction. Insects and bugs may hold out. New animals might evolve to take place of those that died out, but it'll take time for them to dominate the planet. If humans hold on, they'll be scraping together what little food they can to avoid starvation, chances are we won't make it to 2500.

Heavy body modifications to the point where some humans hardly look like humans

Example prostitutes having breasts on their back so bros can hit it from behind but still look at and grab the boobies

Or another example some people just want more legs so they get some robot legs and end up looking like centaurs

yup

Everyone will travel in tubes.

i understand that reference.

OP, a big part of what people enjoy in music is to be able to share it, listen to it together, go at concerts, share our tastes with ppl, etc. I dont see your example ever hapenning.

By 2500, we will have a few dozens colonies in a few solar systems. Dont know if earth will still be a thing. This will all be accomplished with a system that has its roots in the microwave engine NASA is testing right now.
