Just like how I pronounce "gift"... just without T in the end. I don't call gift as "jift".

Of course you don't. But that's not the same reasoning that would apply to how "gif" should be pronounced.

Just because you take the 't' out of "boat" doesn't mean that "boa" sounds the same as the beginning of "boat". "Boat" isn't pronounced "bow-aht".

Also, how do you Pronounce "VGA"? Or "GPU"? You do as in jelly again.

We didn't have a pronunciation guide back in the 90's, so we said "GIF".
I've said "GIF" since then and I'll be in the cold cold ground before I recognize Jif as anything other then a peanut butter brand.

The creator of the format said it's "jif".

So it's fucking "jif".
