Let's take a moment to rewatch the Iwata vs. Reggie fight

It was really well done, and funny.

For a second, i was hoping they were revealing Pokken Fighters...

When the event started, we laughed out loud at the Robot Chicken opening if only for the audacity. When the Reggie X Iwata fight kicked in, I said in the room to everyone watching "it isn't just Luigi, Nintendo is officially out of fucks to give."

Everything Nintendo has done at E3 has acted to shove pretense into a trash can and fire it into the sun. I suppose I'm just tired of arena shows where awkward men stumble out acting as if they only heard of video games yesterday, while trying to talk to a marketing demographic. With nervous eyes and forced laughs.

And that equates to a video with CG effect that probably costed several thousand dollars and took up several minutes of the opening of their Direct where it could have been a third party game?

I'm not sure I follow you.

Third parties are never coming back unless it's exclusives or collaborations. Would you rather they spent money on a TV show and spent time during their event talking about that?

I thought it was great, genius. Well acted, well shot and choreographed. If they started a religion tomorrow I'd join.

They knew there audience and made something to entertain them.

We're not talking about the extent, rather the principle. You talked about self-idolisation, third party relationships, etc. You mock Nintendo for being silly and yet you try to defend Yoshida.

You can't expect executives to just be executives, especially when they're communicating to potential customers.

hahahahhaa

yeah fuck sony's conference with that powers crap, why would they show that there? it was just freaking boring!

Iwata vs Reggie >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>sony's 2/3 of their conference

Wow. This thread smh. Truly disappointed in Orioto. Love his art but way to kill any type of liking otherwise. A lot of these other post are quite senile. So a press conference conference is a must? Suits and ties must be worn? Fact sheets must be read? No laughing on stage? Crowds must cheer for you live for it to actually be worth something? Please. At this point I'd rather watch these directs and interact with my friends who come over to watch them with me and GAF rather than watch some "games journalist" packed crowd pretend they actually care about Nintendo. When press conferences have become so hollow that they have to hire fake crowds then its over. The effect is lost. Awkward pauses and claps for YouTube don't help either. Having your whole show lineup leak and you change nothing doesn't help, especially when the majority of the people in the rooms job is to know about the leaks. Showing barren prototypes and basic concepts does not excite anyone for more than 10min. let alone a full event. Having scripted voice chat between players to show a mp game off is forced as well. Nintendo broke that mold last year and showed why its effective this year. They had fun, showed off 1st party, had developer interviews that were insightful and not hyperbole filled with dramatic music playing, they showed off third parties (either in the direct, during treehouse [still ongoing], or on the floor), and kept talking directly to their fan base the whole afternoon. And that was just their first day going live at E3. If it doesn't fit your taste fine but do the alternatives shown this E3 really fit the description of what you want? Because if so I don't want it personally.

This and the very first section of the Robot Chicken stuff were pretty solid fun.

The whole first 10 minutes, I'd thought I'd been transported back to the mid-90s and that Nintendo was about to sell me some crazy "NOW YOUR PLAYING WITH POWER!" line along with a super hard MARIO game.

The Robot Chicken-esque sketches made me laugh, too. "WHERE'S STAR FOX!?"

Just like Reggie said in the NDE, you can't be afraid to have a little fun.

You sound lovely.

if you liked the video, awesome, it clearly worked for a lot of people, but I really don't get how so many people in here can't get that some people are going to see the video and cringe a little. when you go with a video like that there's going to be a group that has that reaction, it doesn't mean that they're wrong or that they hate everyone or they're miserable to be around or whatever else everyone is saying. it wasn't a great post or anything, but everyone piling in on the dude to defend a video that was clearly made to be crazy and funny seems weird to me. comedy's subjective. not everyone's going to like that video. that's okay.

Iwata is Luffy. Gomu Gomu Gatling Gun!

I really enjoyed Nintendo's E3 video. The skits and developer talks were miles better than watching some dude play through a heavily scripted stage demo, or listening to some exec go on and on about TV. It was playful and self aware, and just the exact opposite of all of the bombastic masturbatory nonsense that made me cringe during other conferences this year and in previous years.

Well executed, funny and silly in a good way. I can't believe some of the negative comments in this thread. However I've noticed there's usual some negative backlash after positive reception of anything Nintendo does.
Nintendo should be applauded for the PR direction they took recently. Their recent directs, the digital event, SSB event, Treehouse, funny shorts are well made, contain good presentations of their games and provide plenty of 'gamer' info's.

I enjoyed that bit a lot. Same with the Robot Chicken stuff. Maybe Iwata got sick from that fight? ;P

Really great Direct overall!

I can't watch Robot Chicken, but those segments were fine in the show.

Also getting uptight about professionalism in E3 press conferences lol. . .

The developer stuff was great, it's good to have info about the actual games but how was the skit not masturbatory?

I laughed yesterday seeing the video, and I laugh entering this topic, but than...C'mon guys! It was a video to show videogames! have "IMMERSION"...what's this "my favourite company is more serioeus than yours" and "autistic communication" things?

Sorry for the correction. But seems immersion is more important than fun. (I'm only joking, seriously joking)

It was incredible and SO very well done, the kicks and punches feel really powerful and believable, damn. What I would do to see a behind the scenes of this. Best moment of E3 without a doubt. Nintendo had the best/most hilarious E3 presentation. Plus, all the Nintendo Treehouse stream has been excellent.

Nah, games are about immersion. They don't need to be fun.

Pretty much it's all about facial animation, close up of faces and looking down at the floor environment textures for dat immersion, which is far more impressive than many enemies on screen in a big action scene with no framedrops.

That's a fair question, and in my mind, masturbatory is that bald headed Watch Dogs (I think it was watch dogs anyway) guy or Drive Club guy going on and on in lurid detail about his obsession with accurately modeled carbon fiber weaving - overly self-serious nonsense.

I'm still really confused as how this immersion talk sprung up. We're talking about a intro to new character in Smash.

Cringe worthy

No one complained when you did it:

I already prefer Sony to Nintendo.
Every self-respecting developer should support Sony seeing as they don't piss on their supporters every once in a while.
Every multiplat game I'll buy on the PS4.
Those are actually Steam-level prices with PS+ I NEED A NEW HARD DISK.

Thanks Sony.

Lol " Thanks Sony" .

Actually yea, that fits the word better than what I think of skit. The Drive Club guy talking about the game did feel dirty. :p

Just like your post history.

I just had to look after this and you're right. I doubt he'll last long here with a first post snide remark to win a few internet points then not coming back when he gets called out on it. :lol

This was a pretty cool intro, though. I missed the first 5 minutes so I didn't really get a chance to see this initially.

I am glad to see both Nintendo and Sony take a positive point of view and utilizing their internet fame for good stuff like this. They are catering to the Neogaf audience 100%. Who would imagine any top executives doing shit like this?

Also, Iwata looked like pretty drained/tired during the video. I hope he is fine health wise. Maybe its the lighting.

That was my favorite part of the digital event. I hope they will do more like this in the future. It was fun to watch. :P
