Let's talk about "creepshots"

Then let me spell it out for you.

In my experience, women tend to be OK with getting attention for their looks if the man giving the attention is someone they could find attractive.

If on the other hand, the man is unattractive to them they find the attention uncomfortable and inappropriate - also known as "creepy".

And to make clear, I don't think snapping pictures counts as 'attention'. I am sure getting your picture taking without consent would be undesired by most no matter who snaps them.

I disagree with your initial premise.

BOOM BABY!

Besides it's irrelevant as picture snapping doesn't count as "attention" by your own admission, but I guess that's what I get for taking your post out of whatever context it was in.

Certainly creepy but my understanding is that this is all legal, right? I guess I support that in theory even if the result is this kind of stuff.

But of course, these weirdos are out there. That's why I don't go out in public anymore unless I'm wearing very baggy jeans. I don't want any weird people looking at my perfectly sculpted buttocks.

There was some story about some dude getting arrested for getting caught taking upshirt shots.
Convenience store cameras showed it all.

Compared to my horrible face which looks like the bastard child of Thom Yorke and John Lydon kicked in the face, my ass is worthy of the gods.

I'd happily replace my face as my ass, real talk.

how is this legal? isnt it the equivalent of taking a picture and posting it online without permission? Privacy rights and all that.. I guess the hard part is finding who took the picture and where they posted it so you could take legal action against them.

Imagine what he could have acheived if he put the effort in mastering that to something productive.

Maybe he could be James Bond.

I remember maybe up to a decade ago there was a news story, maybe on dateline, about upskirt videos. Dudes would put a camcorder in a gym bag or something and have it pointing up.
Then they would go spend the day at the Mall riding the escalators.

Just think of the day you can take pictures with your real eyes using contacts or what not.

They're in public places, that's why the privacy rules aren't at play.

I'm pretty sure you could stop this problem by requiring people who upload pictures of persons to prove that the subjects in their photographs have consented to be uploaded online.

Of course, you would need to put in exceptions and special-cases for people taking picture of larger crowds, or taking a picture of their friend (who consents to having his picture uploaded) and in the processes capturing the faces of bystanders around said friend, but otherwise, these "creepshots" would be illegal and subject to a fine and/or possibly some time behind the bars.

I see, that is pretty dumb though this seems borderline stalkerish how could anyone deny that claim? Its kind of sad that you lose your privacy rights by stepping out into public.

Yea I mean there is a fine line between taking a picture of a friend and taking a picture of a crowd compared to whats in this thread. These are like blatant ass shots you'd see in the beginning of a porno or something.

Its not illegal, phones are so small and responsive that you can never adequately prevent it from happening. Unless they invade your personal space you may as well like it and lump it. There will always be peverts

Can you imagine how bad this is going to get with google glass? emphasis on the last three letters.

Yeah, this will become more common the easier it becomes to take pictures.
Personally, instead of trying to legislate around the technology itself ("force cameras to make sounds"), just adjusting the laws around publication of said photos should be enough without it having unwanted unintentional consequences.

Make it illegal, and reddit itself would moderate these particular sub-forums and ensure that they're either outright banned, or require proof of consent for every uploaded picture.

As Sartre noted in his contemplation on Hell in No Exit, the true horror is other members.
All I see are soulless asses. What next creepsketches? Where is the x-ray tech, where is the imagination? Reminds me of that sci-fi story where voyuers pay to see internal organs of dancers.

No faces appears to be the rule. Just like on most magazines and fashion ads.

Imagine being able to access the Internet through the contact lenses on your eyeballs. Blink, and you'd be online. Meet someone, and you'd have the ability to immediately search their identity. And if your friend happens to be speaking a different language, an instantaneous translation could appear directly in front of you.

That might sound farfetched, but it's something that might very well exist in 30 years or less, says theoretical physicist Michio Kaku.

"The first people to buy these contact lenses will be college students studying for final exams," he tells Fresh Air's Terry Gross. "They'll see the exam answers right in their contact lenses. ... In a cocktail party, you will know exactly who to suck up to, because you'll have a complete read out of who they are. President Barack Obama will buy these contact lenses, so he'll never need a teleprompter again.
... These already exist in some form [in the military]. You place [a lens] on your helmet, you flip it down, and immediately you see the Internet of the battlefield ... all of it, right on your eyeball."

yup, it's going to be crazy

how on earth could you do that though? make it illegal to have photos of people on the internet without their consent?

cameras making a loud noise seems more sensible, even if its kind of annoying.

They make it illegal to have photos on people on the internet without their consent?

Treat the photographed person as a model automatically, maybe even treat the act of intentionally taking a picture of a stranger as a binding contract, thus requiring the subject's consent if you wish to publish the picture.

Practically, it would just mean that people who still take these pictures would either keep them to themselves, trade the pictures directly to other users, but no longer publish them online on places such as reddit and other forums.

That's certainly an improvement over the current situation I'd say.

You can't take away the option of a silent mode for normal people. Sure, a DSLR might never be silent, but a point n shoot with no flash?

so google maps, webcams, photos of public places with people in them should all be illegal?

Throw in some exceptions and it's alright.

Parents can consent for their children, so all you'd need is the consent of your wife/husband if you want to publish your family vacation pictures online.

If you just keep them privately then there'd be no need to do so.

Isn't this how half of the "hot women" pics on the internet are made? I bet that lots of those have been posted here on gaf whenever we had some "yogapants" thread.

Fucking winner winner chicken dinner

If you don't want people staring, ditch the yoga pants/leggings/tight jeans. Women are such hippo crits. They wear very revealing body conforming clothing to attract attention, then complain when they get it. I'm considering turning gay, that's how aggravating they are

yikes

Wait, isn't there a law for video that you have to get their permission to put it up on the internet afterwards, otherwise you have to blur out their face? Why and how doesn't that apply to pics?

So I have a question for the women here.

What's worst: A bunch of guys coming over to "talk" to you or creeps snapping photos any chance they get?

I know neither is right but I only ask because there's these two women who work out at the gym I go to and they wear those yoga pants that attract a lot of attention. Most of the guys get distracted by them and go over to harass them trying to get their numbers. The women complain about it, they continue to go just as provocative and do those crazy stretches. You can't expect a straight guy to not feel a certain way when he says beautiful women doing these crazy positions and not react. I'm no perv or anything and I'm married but I can't lie about the distractions those women bring.

To me it seems like they want that attention but get mad when someone provokes them

Edit: btw this happens like every other day at my gym

I believe that's only for when you're airing the video for profit.

I... think I can... relate.
I was just at a beach and I kinda wished I could take some memorable photos to show some of those ridiculous naked racks there to my friends at home. DAMN!

The reason I wear sunglasses at the beach is not for protection against the sun, it's so that I can stare at all those beautiful women without getting noticed

A friend of mine tried this after a night of drinking. We were waiting outside of a food joint for a friend when he took his camera and tried to snap a shot of a girl's ass when an off-duty cop caught him and started chewing him out.

The girl and her boyfriend turned around to see what the commotion was and my friend was super embarrassed about the whole thing. In the end nothing really happened but he was shaken up after that.

I have to say, though I find the conduct deplorable, the ass in the last photo of the OP...is something special.

How do you know they want attention?
Yoga pants are extremely comfortable gym wear, and they might just want to wear what is most conductive to their work out instead of borrowing a page from the Qu'ran.

I wish photographing people in public places was illegal so these dangerous perverts could be thrown in jail. For life preferably.

That's too much.
I like my idea of treating photograph subjects as models, whose permission you'd need to acquire if you want to publish the photos you take.
