Let's talk about mainstream pizza chains

Has anyone gone to a sit down Pizza Hut recently? Do they even exist anymore? I used to love their pizza back in the 80s.

I actually just heard a radio advertisement telling people to come to Pizza Hut and dine, so perhaps they're bringing it back? I use to love going to Pizza Hut as a kid and getting one of those personal pan pizzas. Use to get a coupon for one after reading like 5 books or something.

Is it me or was the pizza better in the restaurant.

It used to be. I'm not going to say they drastically changed their recipe. There are definitely some inconsistencies to how it used to taste.

Most of the Pizza Huts near me are dine-in. Problem is, that really isn't big any longer for any pizza place.

They can't bring back what never went away.

No love for Donato's? They are easily better than Papa John's (which is OK), Pizza Hut or Domino's (which are passable at best).

Came to post this. Donato's is awesome, I wish we had one in the South. When I lived in Cleveland they were everywhere.

Papa John's, Dominos, and Costco are the holy trinity. Papa John's has the best sause, Dominos has the best cheese, and Constco has the best dough.

If Blaze Pizza counts that gets my vote. Else Pizza Hut and Little Ceasers.

Edit:
Forgot to mention Round Table. WWorst is Papa Johns.

Dominos is the best for me now. Papa johns was the shit for me in college. I swear the quality has gone downhill with the franchises in my area and now I find it shit.

Vocelli's is a reasonably big chain that is really good but is pretty much exclusive to the Northeast IIRC

Costco is some really good stuff but only as a sit-down sort of thing after you're done shopping.

It's not even close. It's so much better in regards to the other chain pizza places mentioned.

I even like it better than some "authentic" pizza places.

Plain Papa Ginos right out of the oven is better than any chain pizza ever. It's not even that their toppings are bad or anything just that their best pizza is a hot fresh slice of plain.

All this hate for Pizza Hut, when it's the only chain Pizza I really like. I like the crisp crust and the burn the hell out of it, which I like.

But I never eat chain pizza, and I'm gluten free now, so this is all moot.

These threads always make me laugh. OP asks for Nationwide chain, people eventually start posting some little chain that has 3 location's in a tiny town in Iowa.

Love Papa Ginos but it's New England only.

Around New England, the best wide chain is Papa Gino's.

I love you guys. There are many reasons to spend some time in New England: Schools, museums, sports, heoin etc. But mostly Papa Gino's. So, so good.

Poor reading comprehension makes me laugh.
Let's talk about mainstream pizza chains #1 Obviously they don't come close to some more authentic restaurants and smaller shops, but they get the job done in a pinch. About to have me some Papa John's in a little bit so I started wondering what's the consensus on the "best" one.

Starving right about now so it's looking pretty damn good. I almost can't stomach Pizza Hut anymore, shit's vile. Little Caesar's, Domino's, Hungry Howies, Five Star, Marco's, etc.

He never said nation wide. Also some of the pizza places he listed are not nation wide.

Dominos is the best balance of quality and price.

I think I'd agree with this. Of the main three out of Dominos, Pizza Hut and Papa John's, I think I like Pizza Hut the most... but only for their pan and stuffed crust pizza. The actual pizza portion of the stuffed crust isn't that good because it's so thin but the stuffed crust is so good that it makes up for it. I'm a sucker for cheese though. And I've always enjoyed their pan pizza. Everything else is pretty meh to me. I think their traditional regular pizzas are probably on par with Dominos. They're fairly similar in my opinion.

For Dominos, like others have said, their specialties are pretty nice. But I like their semi-new medium homemade pan pizzas. They taste good to me. I actually used to really like their old version of the pan pizza but I think they did away with those when they introduced the homemade version.

Papa John's is good and they use good ingredients. It's solid pizza but the taste doesn't wow me or anything is the best way I can put it. I never order it over the other two but maybe I should give it more of a chance. I just never find myself thinking "man, I can really go for some Papa John's right now." It's good but never has that effect on me. Dominos has sales and coupons pretty often though so I normally go with them.

In the past I would have said Papa John's. Then a Marcos opened up near me and so that gets my vote now. You can just taste the freshness.

Absolute worst was Little Caesar's. I've literally never had a good pizza there.

Why did you have to remind me about Five Star? ;_; That was the shit when I lived in Gainesville. They made the best meat lovers I've ever had.

Happy to see Jet's get some love in here. They do a very solid "Detroit-style" deep dish and have maintained their quality admirably as they've grown. It's my favorite chain pizza by far.

Pro-tip: Get the 8 corner pizza to maximize caramelized crunchy deliciousness in every slice.

This is happening tomorrow now. Thanks GAF.

In Hawaii, Boston's Pizza and Sam's Club seem to be the best. Pizza Hut is inconsistent, and I haven't tried Dominoes or Papa John's in years. I'm all about the meat lovers style, so Supreme/Combo at Costco don't interest me.

Haven't ordered from any of the major chains in a while, but I always loved Pizza Hut's personal pan pizza. I think that's just a childhood thing though.

Domino's or Pizza Capers are the only two I'll eat.

I prefer Domino's, but the local shop fucks up my order 90% of the time. Edge crust is the greatest.

Don't have many in my area but I like the local Hungry Howie's every now and then. Little Caesar's Hot and Ready pizzas are also the bomb though, can't beat it for a 5 dollar bill.

Costco makes a pretty damn reasonable deep dish, both in price and taste. Their regular take and bake pizzas are good as well. Especially when the pepperoni pizzas are on sale for $5.99, or however much it is.

Otherwise, for chain? It's gonna probably be a Pizza Hut taco pizza or a chicken garlic from Papa Murphy's. Pepperoni Topperstix from Topper's are fucking amazing as hell
when drunk or high
.

Holy shitballs. I just finished my strength and aerobic workout and I could down this in one sitting. I actually started salivating when I saw this. Time for bed before the workout was all for naught.

Over here, it's Papa Johns.

Dominos is eh. Little Caesar's is meh. Pizza Hut is garbage. My Aunt and Uncle loved CiCi's Pizza. I think they might secretly be terrorists.

But we like the non national chains like Mellow Mushroom, Jimano's, and Cosmos.

Looking forward to that Jet's opening up in Littleton.

Also, the sauce that comes with Papa Johns. Sometimes, I save those and use them on microwave burritos. Yeah. You put the burrito in for about 30 seconds, take it out and then put a little garlic sauce, a little pizza sauce, and then top it with shredded cheese. Pop it back in for about a minute and you're golden.

Yissssss......

Reading through a lot of the early returns in this thread, I feel like some sort of bizarro human because I usually enjoy Pizza Hut pretty decently (especially their breadsticks, if you get a good amount of whatever that magical seasoning is on them), and I find Papa Johns to be really plain and overrated.

As far as "chain" pizza places go, I think it's still pretty local around Michigan, but Dolly's Pizza is pretty good as well. I'd probably put it around par with something like Jets, and maybe a touch higher than Hungry Howies.

Dominos used to be great, now only the pan pizza is any good. I usually buy Little Caesars for the price, size, and tastes good when hot. I sometimes get Pizza Hut but Dominos is better.

Fuck all y'all Sbarro haters, I still get excited when I see one in an airport. It's not fantastic, sure, but I remember loving it when I was a kid at the mall and it's still pretty decent if you drown it in cheese, garlic powder, and oregano

Anyway, the best local chain for me is Escape From New York (Bay Area). San Francisco isn't great for pizza, but this reminds me of home in a way no where else here does and the pesto pizza is fantastic.

Mainstream-wise, Costco's pizza is pretty rad, and I like Domino's for delivery. I can get into some Pizza Hut if I'm in the mood to become a salty ball of self-loathing. There's a Round Table near my school that is pretty decent, but I've had mixed experiences with other locations.

Pizza My Heart exists in South to Central California and it owns. It's a little expensive, a meal with a salad and drink costs 8 bucks but it's completely worth it. A slice is like 1/6 of a pizza total and they give you all the spices and stuff you could ever want.

If you want a cheap lunch, Safeway will give you a huge slice for $2.50 and it will be totally decent.

Domino's and Pizza Hut are tied for the best mainstream pizza.

Papa John's is by far the worst. I've gotten food poisoning from them twice, I'll never eat them again.

Little Ceaser's isn't that great, but I'll eat it if it's available.

Costco makes a pretty damn reasonable deep dish, both in price and taste. Their regular take and bake pizzas are good as well.

Oh yeah, forgot about their pizza. Both Costco and Sam's have excellent pizza.

At the end of the day, Pizza is Pizza. Outside of Papa John's, I don't think I've ever had a bad one.
