watching the pilot right now.

very unfamiliar with the show as a whole, but i've seen an episode or two. something with jack fighting a scottish guy.
If you like the Legend of Zelda games, you ought to love this.

This was the most epic 30 minute cartoon ever. So great! I was getting really into illustration when it started airing, so I really appreciated the shit out of it's style and cinematic presentation. There's a really cool 7 minute making-of on youtube with the major creators of SJ talking about all of their inspiration for storytelling, style, presentation and whatnot. It's a good watch, lots of great scenes in it and it brings back so many memories :D

That making-of also acts as a fucking awesome preview for the show if you've never seen it.

I had pretty much stopped watching cartoons after I turned 15, but I remember this being a rare exception.

Loved the theme song. "Jack jack...samuuurai jack".

Never really watched the show that much, but for a minute I caught a few episodes. Was surprised when I saw the episode with the spartans in it, I had to look at the date. Was prolly inspired by the comic, but it was interesting to see the way they interpreted it with the motion picture out. Very entertaining.

It needs an ending Genndy! Fucking do it!
I thought that one or two of the episodes suggested that Jack won't be able to go home to the past until he's had so many adventures in the future and personally/spiritually grown so great that his defeat of Aku will become a foregone conclusion and he won't even need to fight anyone or use his magic sword to do it.

Sounds to me like it wouldn't make for a very exciting ending, and it's more the journey than the destination that matters. In which case, I would say Jack deserves many more episodes/movies, more so than he deserves an ending.

Amazing show. Very adult in the way they handled story, and art. Some of the Episodes were totally voice-free for like 10-12 minutes at a time. Would love to see a movie to cap of the series, and give it the ending it deserves.

Fuck! Every time I am reminded this series didn't get a proper ending I die a little inside. Such an amazing series, if it were released on Blu-Ray I'd buy day 1.

this is probably my dad's favorite cartoons.

i was 11 when it started so it took me a while to get used to the style of storytelling but i really like it. my favorite is The Three Blind Archers episode

Yeah I definitely want more episodes, but we also need an ending to cap off this amazing series.

I feel bad because I bought the "movie"(just the first handful of episodes) years ago on dvd and loved it , eventually grabbed season 1 and watched most of it , also loved it but never bothered to watch the rest , in part because I heard they never ended the story.

I hate it when shows don't get proper closure.

Another infamous example of this is Reboot. Ugh, season 3 ending with a massive cliffhanger, 4 years go by and we get a 4.0 only to have mainframe end it on an even bigger cliffhanger and never go back to it :(

Next up for newer shows on this list seems to be spectacular spiderman, will it EVER get season 3 ?

All off topic of course, but yeah, samurai jack was an awesome show.

T-E-E-N T-I-T-A-N-S! Teen Ti-tans! LETS GO!

that cliffhanger with (supposedly) Terra was fucking evil! >_<

didn't the 90's spiderman just abruptly stop too? That was one of my fav cartoons of all time and then suddenly it was always repeating after MJ disappeared :(

Such a great show, I loved every episode.

It's a godamn tragedy it didn't receive a proper ending.

I can't get over the fact that this show had only 3 years on the air and Ben fucking 10 gets spin offs, live action movies and shit. What the fuck world!?

Ben 10 started out good then kept getting worse. watching the new episode on Friday just made me facepalm in real life. the writing just kept getting worse. I can only hope Generator Rex has different writers.

Samurai Jack is the perfect example of how a Zelda animated show could be done.
Genndy's a big Nintendo/Zelda fan it seems, or someone he works with is.

There's a samus like bounty hunter in one of the sam jack episodes, and a samus like robot in another episode
There's an ep of sam jack where jack is in a labyrinth somewhat reminiscent of zelda, they had a beamos, block switches and similar puzzles

There's a zelda64 parody in powerpuff girls

actually, you watch some of CN Studios shows, there are plenty of Nintendo references.

specially Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends (by Craig McCracken, creator of the PPG)

I loved this show, it was totally amazing.

CN has really gone to shit though. The Teh Randum/Monkey-Cheese humor movement in cartoons these days is just depressing.

I really love this show. I can't believe its been so long since it ended. One of my favorite episodes was Jack And The Lava Monster...that was such a moving episode.

Yeah R.I.P. Mako :(

Anyway The Scotsman was all kinds of awesome :lol There was the episode in the pyramid, when Jack turns into a chicken, when that woman Jack befriends turns out to be Aku, hell the show was consistently great for the most part.

It needs an ending Genndy! Fucking do it!

Genndy's been doing so much stuff since SJ ended though. I'm sure he'd love to make an ending if he had the time.

Hands down my absolute favorite animated show EVER. SUCH a great show. Loved how some episodes there wouldn't even be any dialog, only sounds or music.

Wish I could say Samurai Jack was a childhood favorite, but seeing as how I was in my mid-late teens when the first episode aired, it has become just a lifetime favorite.

<3 Samurai Jack!

Loved the show, mad at myself for missing about a third of the episodes before they stopped showing it.

Also mad for missing it when they showed it again on Boomerang.

Same here. I'd say those moments of Samurai Jack have influenced the way my friends and I make our amateur films. Music and sound can sometimes set a better tone than and carry a scene more than any line could ever hope to.

I loved Samurai Jack. I think it was the last show that played on Toonami before it got cancelled. Great way to end the block.

Anyone remember that episode when Jack was in a pyramid with this guy who was a homage to one of the characters in Lupin the 3rd?

It was such a maudlin show in places. I always loved the episode with the three Jackals when Ra or whoever comes down and ignores Jack's pleas so Jack just sits down and tries to make a fire. That last shot of him banging the flint together had such a fantastic air of loneliness, frustration and a profound sense of loss.

I also loved the ending to the episode in which Jack helped the scientists launch the rocket. You see the rocket flying off and the camera tilts down to show Jack already on his way, not even wasting a second to regret his decision. Those moments always caught me off guard.

But most weren't worth a damn.

Except Star Wars: Clone Wars, which was so critically acclaimed and popular that it caused it's own series (which for some reason doesn't have him doing it).

I loved the episode where Jack fought the robot warriors. Each one had its own specialty.

Also the episodes with the scottish warrior, Awesome stuff.
