Lets talk God of War 4

Kratos stays. If there's no Kratos then go make new series instead of calling it GoW.

I agree. Kratos is to God of War what Master Chief is to Halo, or Drake is to Uncharted. He needs to stay.

Maybe they could do a Zelda deal, where it's Kratos, but an alternate universe one with a different setting.

They cannot bring Kratos back. That is my one condition. And if they go with a different culture's mythology, they will almost certainly have my attention.

God of War 1 is one of the best games I've played, but the sequels looked so similar that I never even bothered to play them.

No, no Kratos. You play one of Kratos sons, who he made during his sex scenes. And because the sons are battling for the interest of their father, they begin killing gods from egypt, norse mythology and others.

Something like "Kratos Idol" (American Idol)

You missed out, GoW 2 and 3 are legitimately great.

After the fall of the Greek pantheon, the other pantheons have banded together to kill the god killer Kratos and wipe him from existence.

This would open the door for multiple pantheons and mythologies rather than confining a new trilogy to only one

Or what about an older Unforgiven-esque Kratos? Maybe he has a son...

I'd be okay with Kratos sticking around, provided it was a new Pantheon. A new Kratos would be okay, though, too. I mean, Norse and Egyptian are such obvious choices, but I'd also love it if they went with something a little more obscure. Either way, if they do go with a new protagonist, I think it's inevitable that the franchise ends with NewKratos as the god killer of the new Pantheon having a face off against Kratos. Which would be fine. Hell, have the franchise build up to have a pantheon full of Gods of War who all hate each other. I dunno. Go crazy. Just no more greek, please.

Why?
A character action game with violent combat, epic scale and fighting creatures from mythology is still a solid idea.

You can change the character and still keep many of the core features of the franchise.

It works for Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Deus Ex, GTA, Infamous, etc.
Should the next Star Wars not be called Star Wars because Luke is no longer the main character?

Norse goblins and trolls? Like every fantasy game ever?? Common.

Give me Chinese 18 lvls of hell, Japanese Oni and Yamas, Egyptian Anubis and Nefertiri, African shadow men and maybe somthing original.

Please, no more trolls and orcs and goblins. We already had WoW, then we had LotR, then we had Harry Potter, then we had Skyrim, then we had, The Avengers, then... Jk jk...

Though I will admit, it would be fun to beat on Thor and Loki and Odin, and explore the world Tree and fight the battle of Ragnarock, I don't know if trolls and goblins are all that different than the Greek stuff we've had already.

I wouldn't mind if a new hero, maybe female like Narikoesqe, came and knocked Kratos on his arse at the beginning of the game tho.

Kratos is an iconic figure in the Playstation brand. No way he goes. There have been multiple GOW4 threads and that is always the dominant point of discussion. He stays. 100% certain.

At most there would be another playable character. But he will still be the main. No doubt about it in my mind.

I think, story wise, they could go a different mythology route. Perhaps make it where the Egyptian Gods have heard about the happenings in and around Greece and fear that Kratos will not stop with the massacre of that area and will come for them next. So in a preemptive strike, they attack Kratos. Kratos fights back and goes to war with the Egyptian Gods.

He could fight against Anhur, the Egyptian God of War. He could even find a love interest in the Goddess of War, Sekhmet. He could fight against Set and Sobek and Horus and Ra.

Kratos needs to die in the most horrific way possible at the very beginning of the game.

I hate Kratos so much, they need to do him like Trevor does Johnny in GTA V.

Lol. Didn't take long for the 'NO KRATOS' bit to come up. B.S

I want Kratos to return, but I want it to be a different setting. They need a solid script as to why Kratos is in such a different landscape, so am hoping they pick a good writer for this, or have done so already.

New mythology, new cast of characters and motivations, but Kratos needs to be back. It's evident at the end of GoW3 that there's still story left. Athena is still at large.

Completely disagree.

All the franchises you've listed could benefit from moving away from its core characters - Halo in particular is suffocating under the need to keep John in the story.

First he was an enhanced super soldier, now he's a demi-god being chased around the Galaxy.

Gears of War 4 has a new cast and new enemies, more franchises should follow suit.

In my opinion of course.

GOW gameplay is solid. I don't think it needs to evolve much. Enemies, setting, story, etc is more important IMO

The gameplay can certainly be evolved. The combat is fun but far too basic. I also think the game's structure can be worked on as well. I don't want an open world game but I'd love to see a few hub areas that give you some control in the order of objectives you tackle.

Norse would be awesome

Imagine enemies like these, with PS4 graphics

Whats this from?

I'd love to see something in Egypt with their mythology. The only type of media I recall that ever really used its mythos was yugioh =/

They are soooo untapped and it fits god of war.

But we've gotten two great Halo games with zero Master Chief (ODST and Reach). God of War would survive perfectly fine without Kratos, so long as his replacement and the setting are well-executed.

Sequels tend to be that way.

Maybe they could have it where you play as Kratos' daughter who is revived by Athena after Kratos sacrificed himself at the end of 3. You could be a warrior goddess going out to conquer other plains of existence because Athena has gone mad or something. Easy way to keep it in the lore and add other mythologies to it as well.

In an ideal world, the main character would be a female, half-naked for added controversy, and part giant so she can hulk out everywhere. She'd also have sex with men several times in the game against their will before ripping off their penises and beating them to death with it. Final fight is with a huge monster that's like a lizard. And when you finally meet this final boss, you come to realise the true meaning of the title, and it all comes full circle, like poetry.

Call it Godzilla of War.

I vote for this. It has Everything. Penises, lizzards, poetry, penises

I think they should just throw sense to the wind and combine a ton of different mythologies. Egyptian, Norse, Hindu, Japanese, Judeo-Christian, all of it.

I don't mind if Kratos is the main character or not. I think if you're going to sell it under the GoW banner, then he probably should be.

Egypt
A warrior pharaoh upon completing the rites to enter the Underworld but denied entrance. Osiris has been killed and his body was dismembered and scattered throughout Egypt by Set who wanted his throne. With the help of Isis using her father's magic revives the Pharaoh to search Egypt for the 14 pieces of his body to revive Osiris and get into the Underworld.

So a remake of Eye of Horus?

No. Keep platinum away from GOW.

To each their own. I always had a hard time getting into GoW after playing DMC because it felt slow and that I had less control by comparison. That being said I do believe that people like the GoW game play. What did you like about it specifically over the Platinum games style of game play?

Norse would be cool, Odin, Thor, Fenrir.. But I feel like Egyptian pantheon with Anubis, Horus and Thoth could make for just as or even more bad ass imagery.

They already hinted at Egyptian Mythology in GoW: Ascension, and there was something about Mithras in there as well.

DetectiveGAF did some work back when the game came out, and decoded something related to Mithras.

Just make GoW4 have David Jaffe's original GoW3 story. Who cares if it's already out there: it sounds cool as f*** and would mixing diff mythologies would keep the Greek setting from getting stale. Could even make Kratos a likable character again.

Also please god KEEP the multiplayer. It was fun, there's nothing out there quite like it and it was easily the better half of Ascension.

I don't see Greek mythology being reused since Kratos has already wiped out nearly every important creature and deity. I'd personally love to see the series shift to a new protagonist and mythology seeing as how there are so many out there, and each has their own God of War to be replaced. Although, just putting a new coat of paint over the same formula would be disappointing so I hope SSM are able to refresh the series with whatever they choose to do.

I wouldn't read too much into anything in Ascension being a hint at GoW4 since Cory rejoined the studio after it was released and he probably has his own idea for what it should be.

For one, I really doubt they will follow with their original idea for the series, as we all now KNOW what it was all about, and it's out in the open.

That's one problem I see with them moving to a different mythology. It's going to be expected. Lets see though.

I have faith in Cory.

No Kratos and new mithology pls

I know it's a popular opinion, still God of War for me is Kratos, and Kratos is a Spartan.

I have nothing against a new hack & slay IP with a new MC and a new setting, but if we talk about God of War 4 I want Kratos, not Thor, not Mars, not Anhur, not Anat, not Kali or any other guy...
