Lez talk mechanical keyboards

Anybody have experience with topre keys? Been hearing those are the best of the lot.

I've heard that Topres feel like a rubber dome keyboard with longer travel, which makes sense since they kinda are high-end rubber domes. There is no switch that is "best" for everyone though, and I've read several people's impressions and how they were disappointed by how the Topres feel.

I haven't tried Topres but i am using a CM Novatouch TKL to type this. It's a hybrid capacitance switch which feels like a slightly firmer membrane keyboard but nicer. It's odd but i like it and it has Cherry MX compatible stems so custom keys are easy to find and i have to have my "Black Mesa logo" escape key, it's the law!

Any recommendations for soft, thin O-Rings as i am a bit forceful for a tiny-handed bloke and i bottom-out the keys and sound like a kangol when i type :(

I believe the Novatouch uses Topre switches with the hybrid part in the name of the switches referring to the custom slider with Cherry MX stem manufactured by Topre for Cooler Master.

I just got myself a Corsair Strafe with MX Browns. My favourite Cherry MX switches.

Anyone has this keyboard and cna tell me anything bad about it?

I also have a Logitech G710+ that I'm gonna sell.

I'm getting the Razer BlackWidow RGB Chroma to complete my PC build when my tax return comes. It's $160 dollars but my fucking GOD do I love it. The sound of those keys is so satisfying I can't deal without having it. I also love the color settings. It's just neat. Anyone tell me if they have it and their thoughts?

I have the Blackwidow Ultimate Classic, the only thing different from the Chroma is RGB lighting. Keyboard is sturdy, looks gorgeous (Chroma looks even better), has tons of features (usb, mic in and audio in) and great software. My only two problems with it (layout us and blue switches) won't affect you, so go for it. Amazing keyboard.

This is my first mechanical keyboard and I absolutely love it so far. It's very understated and classy looking IMO, especially compared to the gaudy, gamer-y stuff that Logitech was throwing out in past years.

Typing is a joy on this thing as well. I'm a bit of a noobie when it comes to mechanical keyboards, but I love this so far. Plus, I lucked out and I ended up getting TWO activation keys for The Division! One on my Best Buy receipt, and one in the box!

I have one. I wish I was able to get the "silent" version, but the regular version is fine as well. Just slightly noisier and "pingier".

There's nothing inherently wrong with it, but you will need to have the Razer Synapse program running in the background if you want custom light effects.
I just prefer my computer running as minimal as possible when it comes to background tasks.

Oh, I also wish the the space bar and function key would light up, but I guess that's for a future build.

Just curious, what made you get that switch over other types of switches that you got to try out at best buy? It is nice that it came with the division for free. I think that is a pretty neat touch. What was the damage here?

Ohhh really? So it doesn't light up by default? Mmmm. That isn't much of a problem I guess.

Just got my G810 and I can see some of the complaints that IGN review had. Seems more nitpicky to be honest. Not too sure about the glossy finish on the sides. The LGS suite won't disable the LED on the G logo either. Other than that, this keyboard feels great for the two Division keys I got for it lol.

Now that I've spent some more time with it, I'm hoping to see more keycaps for these Romer-G Switches. The stock keycaps reminds me of stuff from Coolermaster's older CM Storm line of keyboards. Which probably means finger oils will remove the matte coating over time. For those looking into possible replacement keycaps from Logitech, I saw in their parts store they sell keycaps for the G410/G910 for $25 a set. Might not be ideal, but I'd like to see them include G810 stock caps over time.

And for those asking about Romer-G's and how they feel, they are pretty much like a Cherry MX Brown Switch with a lighter actuation point around a Red switch.

Well, as I said, this is my first mechanical keyboard, so I felt that these Romer-G switches were a smooth transition away from membrane. They weren't as loud or clickity-clackity as some of the other options.

Probably the biggest reason I went with the G810 is the aesthetics, though. I love it's understated look compared to all the gamer-y looking crap that Best Buy sells.

Damage was $160, but I'm hoping to get $40 for each Division key which makes the price very reasonable.

160, wow. That's a big chunk. I was debating picking it up for the reason of replacing my division preorder but that's still pretty steep. Going to have to think on that.

Yeah it's not cheap, but it'll be hard to find any quality RGB mechanical keyboard for under $100. Factoring in The Division key it's a fair price IMO.

My Corsair K70 arrived today and I'm very pleased. Nice satisfying click when I type, I love the form factor and it suits my desk miles better than my old keyboard, yeah I'm very happy. I don't think I'll be going back to non-mechanical any time soon.

Beautiful looking keyboard. I would get one if I didn't recently by a keyboard myself.

Which switches?

My new keyboard (RK-9100) just came, pretty basic compared to a lot of the previous ones posted but it feels solid as hell. I'm also liking the built in Audio/Microphone ports.

It's a pretty good entry point to mechanical keyboards and if you can find it for a decent price ($70 or around there) I'd highly recommend it.

I played around with the Black Widow Ultimate at the store and absolutely loved the feel of the keyboard. I was wondering if there is a company that makes a wireless version that is quieter? I saw the Varmilo on Massdrop, but it sounds loud.

im assuming you were using the green switch. The green switch of theirs is essentially the blue switch from just about everyone else except for a lower quality one. I am sure you can find a good wireless one out there but I am not too familiar. I think there is a very nice looking filco majestouch 2 out there with wireless. If you want the click with less of the sound then you can always gets o rings for your keyboard and it will deaden the sound. Otherwise quieter switches tend to have a completely different experience all together

Hey there,

Been thinking about getting a mechanical keyboard and I'm looking for some recommendations. I have some criterias:

I hate flashy "gaming" branded stuff. I want it to be clean and simple, to look somewhat minimalistic and "professional". Think about something like Fractal Design R5 as a computer case equivalent.

Full set of keys with numpad. I'm not a fan of compact keyboards where the keys are tightly crammed together. Media keys are not needed but some would not hurt.

Backlight is not needed either, but if there is, then I'd like it to be white or light blue light, or full RGB. No solid red, etc.

Nordic layout would be great, or at least one with a large enter button. Option to order replacement key caps straight from the manufacturer would be nice too.

Cherry MX switches other than blue. Brown or red would be preferable.

So far Das Keyboard 4 Professional seems to be the best option, albeit an expensive one and Nordic layout with brown switches does not seem to be very widely available.

Just picked one up today myself. I can tell you the feel coming from a g710+ is night and day. I really enjoy the way these keys feel. I'm a pretty decent typer, and while I liked the feel of the 710+ coming from a g19, this really stands head and shoulders above. I'm only in the first few minutes of it but I can tell my errors are down and the spacing/feel is just how i like it. Plus I found I haven't used the Gkeys in quite a while since the old WOW days of yore, so I like the minimalist approach. Key light maps are a nice feature. Time will tell how the caps hold up but I am impressed so far.

Hello my new beauty :D

I'll second that.

I have the Red LED K70 w/ Brown switches and I love it. Haven't had this much fun typing since I was a kid at school typing on those old IBM mechanical keyboards. Only I don't re-arrange the keycaps to say penis on my own keyboard.

Seems like the software being a bit obtuse is the only downside.

Luckily for me, since mine doesn't change color, I'm not using any software at all!

But yeah, for eerik who would want the RGB model, I have also heard that the software is not very good. That's actually what steered me towards the red only. It always annoys me when every peripheral I have wants to install it's own software.

Sort of a cross-post from the I Need a New PC thread. I'm looking for a good compact keyboard for gaming. I think the Cooler Master Quickfire Rapid-i might be what I'm looking for, but I was wondering if anyone else had any suggestions, or any feedback on CM's keyboards.

I have exactly that keyboard with brown switches and I love it besides bunch of LEDs died and still too lazy to RMA, still in warranty tho I need to get on that haha.

You can always go for the ganss keyboard and save a few sheckels unless you would prefer to have the LEDs but it really just depends on what you are more into or what your preference is. Do you want to save money? do you want clicky? What are your uses?

I'm exactly like you, I wanted a nice keyboard but nothing flashy. Went with the Das and couldn't be happier. It was hard spending close $200 on a keyboard, but I'm glad I did, I'm even considering a 2nd one for work (still looking to buy or trade a used board, browns or black!) I have browns and it's a joy to type on. A cheaper option would be the a Ducky One or Zero keyboard.

Wish I had known about Best Buy breaking the street date and the dual division keys, I just purchased the G810 on Amazon :(

Wait what?

Yeah I was a bit worried when I saw all the reviews stating that the LEDs died quickly. RMA is always an option though.

I'm looking for this to be a gaming accessory almost exclusively. I would like to get a lap desk, so that I can play PC games on my couch in front of my TV. In order to do that, I will likely need a relatively small keyboard so that I have enough space on the lap desk to comfortably move my mouse around. I do have a full keyboard already, in case I need a num pad for some reason, and I do most of my work/school stuff on my laptop, so I'm not concerned about this being a practical purchase.

Edit: Forgot to mention that yes, I would like LEDs. And based on the description in the OP, I think between Blue, Brown, and Red (which is what that CM keyboard offers, I think Red sounds best for me? I don't really know though.

You get a code inside the box as well as a code on your receipt.

I did notice K70 RGB, but the reviews (mostly from 2014) mentioned a lot of problems with the software and firmware, which I found very off-putting. I'd like the keyboard to work properly by simply plugging in the cable. I see that there is now an updated revision. Has the software and firmware gotten any better? Can the backlight profiles be saved to on-board memory so I would not have to use the Corsair software all the time?

Im still waiting for Logitech or any other competition, to release a G19 like mechanical keyboard.

Im way to much addicted with it (temps etc being show on it)

I'm looking for more or less the same thing you are and came across this;

WASD Code. Very minimalist design that even lacks a logo at the front. This is the Cherry MX clear version but browns are also available.

Does anyone here have experience with these?

Yeah I'm leaning more and more towards Das Keyboard 4. Reading how some keyboards (such as K70) have ARM processors in them, boot times of 5 second, etc. is just too much for me. I want to keeb things simple. The USB hub of Das is probably more useful than backlight for me anyway. Might even go for blue switches if I can find a good deal. DK4 with brown switches seems to be low in available quantity, especially for the Nordic layout that I want.

My mind is blown that Das is using Cherry MX switches in the PC version and Greetech switches with the Mac layout.

I recently replaced my K70 with the Corsair Strafe (my K70 drank a whole cup of coffee). I really like the Strafe, it has the MX Silent cherry switches, which make a huge difference on noise reduction. Unfortunately I cannot get the corsair utility to download properly, I suspect my version of windows is at fault.
