Lez talk mechanical keyboards

Soooo I spilled some juice on my mechanical keyboard...

Unplugged it and disassembled it immediately and waited it for to dry. Two days later I plugged it in and found some keys to be sticking and pressing one key would two different key stokes?

I literally bought this two months ago AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Did you wash the juice off?

I want to buy my first mechanical keyboard but I still can't decide between (all with Red and French layout) QPAD MK-50, Steelseries 6GV2 and Corsair K70.

Any of you that have one or several of these could help me decide?

I am finally the proud owner of a mechanical keyboard. I settled on the Coolermaster quickfire rapid Black MX switches. 10 keyless keyboard. I am really enjoying it. The linear switch is taking some getting used to. but i am already able to type faster due to not having to bottom out the keys. it is absolutely amazing. I dont think i can go back to a regular keyboard ever again.

I too got a Rosewill 9000 with brown switches. feels much more comfortable than the previous keyboard (mushy Logitech G510).

I dont need any gimmicks like illuminated keys and macros. I dont think I'll use it for games, since I already have gamepad and arcade stick. So this cheaper keyboard is just fine.

I hope keyboard lasts because I read there were problems with the mini USB port. I connected it to PS/2 port for the time being.

I just picked up a Steelseries 6gv2 Red after my 3rd Microsoft Comfort 4000 died. It's my first mechanical keyboard and I was worried I'd have a hard time getting used to the design compared to the bulky MS keyboards, but it's almost perfect. The only thing I don't love so far is that the spacebar seems like it's angled forward, and with the way I type every time I hit space the thin edge digs into the side of my thumb a bit. I'm gonna have to slightly change how I type for that, but overall this thing is way too nice for that to be a deal breaker.

Edit:
PS/2 port for keyboard interface is superior to USB.

Why's that? Something to do with input delay?

I type a lot, so I decided to give a mechanical keyboard with blue switches a try. I'm pretty happy so far, the feeling is great, but the keyboard is really loud, probably because I'm banging the keys all the way down. Should I have gone with a stiffer switch?

Browns would be quieter. I prefer them over blues due to the noise.

The PS/2 interface generates a hardware interrupt on every keystroke while USB needs to be polled whenever the computer gets around to it. It's usually not a big deal in practice, but there's less to go wrong with PS/2.

Blues are notorious for making noise as it is, but yeah if you were to press lighter it'd get quieter. I still press all the way down when gaming half the time, so I don't mind it (I game with an Orbweaver), but if you get rubber O rings that'd help big time, from what I hear.

You have to differentiate the clicks of the keyboard and the sound from bottoming out the keys. If you carefully only press down so far that it makes the click sound, that's enough to type. That's as quiet as it gets for blues. If you press down further the keys will hit the bottom and there's more noise. That noise you'd also get with browns and other switches. O-rings could help eliminate at least that part of the noise, if it's an issue.

Get o rings or make one yourself. Try to get old rubber domes

I'm going to be buying myself a mechanical keyboard in the next few days. I mainly game and I want to know if I'd be better off with red or brown switches?

I was looking at the ducky shine 3 or the corsair k95/k90. Anyone tried those out before?

Just got my 1st mechanical keyboard - Ducky Shine 3 with red switches exactly on Christmas Eve. Despite the extremely long wait for it to get here (ordered from ncix on december 8), I'm pretty darn happy with it. Feels so much better than your standard keyboard

I got a Corsair K70 as a gift and I couldn't be happier. It is quite fantastic. First Cherry MX mechanical keyboard, so I'm pretty excited about this one. Taking some getting used to as usual when going from keyboard to keyboard, but this is great. I finally have some back-lighting which is absolutely huge for me. The keys are super easy to press and feel good. I'm typing a little slower right now because I'm not used to the key spacing from my old keyboard, but I'll get used it. It is getting better as I type this. The sound of pushing them in is nice. Nothing too loud, but just right. I've played a few games with it thus far and it is actually pretty great. Because you don't need to press the key down fully, it makes it easy to flow from key to key.

This is a beautiful keyboard too. The brushed aluminum is nice and it accents nicely with the blue LED's. I am really, really happy.

Welcome to the K70 Master Race. Which mechanics, Blue, Brown or Red?

I got a K70 in September and it's a solid keyboard, but the longevity of the spraypainted keys concern me. Of course I wouldn't expect injection moulded keys at the K70 price point, but I'm still concerned about the paint rubbing off after a year+ of heavy use. Overall it's well designed though and very easy to clean. Good media controls too.

I'm coming up on 2 years of daily use of my K60 and no keys are fading. iirc though all K70s have backlighting, thus the letters would be separate plastic, right?

Actually Red requires the least pressure to activate the switch and has no tactile feedback unlike blues.

Yes, I know. I wasn't looking for too much clicking or feedback, so this was my middle of the road. Besides, when you press the keys down when typing at normal pressure the keys still have a great tapping sound that I love which was all I really needed. I wasn't looking for something that require too much force either, so this was the best choice for me personally.

The height of the keys are something that is taking some getting used to. I was using the old but still great diNovo Edge from Logitech and I'm so used to the keys being in a very low profile and much closer together. It's coming though. Typing this is quick and I think when I get used to it I'll end up typing faster than before.

Just got a Zowie Celeritas MX Brown for a good price, here's hoping it's not shit!

It's pretty good, except that the USB -> PS2 adapter is crap. It moves and falls off the port easily so you'll just want to use the USB port. However, if you do that, your keyboard won't be properly recognized on Linux (at least that's what happened with my AZERTY layout Celeritas).

If you don't mind the lack of extra features (such as backlighting) and are certain you'll never use Linux, it's a great keyboard. I swapped mine for a Corsair K70 because of those issues and because I broke two of my keys and didn't know how to get them repaired.

I'm so glad I got a sample kit with one of each Blue, Brown, Clear, Black, and Red. Turns out I can't stand the feeling or sound of Blues, and I prefer tactile feedback over linear switches.

So I guess I'm now looking for a nice Brown switch, or perhaps Clear switch keyboard. Currently my sights are set on a Razer Blackwidow Stealth, since it has all the features I want (Macro buttons, backlight, usb passthrough). I'm skeptical of anything marketed as gaming equipment though. Are there perhaps any other brown/clear keyboard that I should look over? The main issue is that I really like the macro buttons, even if I use them only occasionally.

Impulse bought a K70 at Best Buy today. Didn't want hard to press clickies so got the reds and I like it so far. Plus the customizable LED's are nice so I just have my WASD and 1-9 and few other keys lit when gaming. Gotta love impulse buys :)

Thinking of getting one of these once it comes back in stock:

CM Storm QuickFire Ultimate

I have the compact TK model, but the combined arrow keys and number pad are not conducive to how I personally type.

I really REALLY love Cherry Browns, and that is a great price for a product line I know to be high quality.

I've been using a steelseries 6gv2 for a month now and I'm kinda disappointed after reading how much better mechanical keyboards are. Is this a bad keyboard or something?

It is a little more comfortable than normal keyboards but not worth the price IMO.

I have the Gigabyte Aivia Osmium and it's been good to me since thw first couple months of issues. It would double input quite often. I get a sticky key every now and again but the textile feel and longevity make up for it.

I've had mine for a year now and have been getting double inputs randomly ever since I plugged it into a different USB port. It was usually the t key, but I think it's moved to delete since I've gotten multiple confirm prompts when deleting something a few times. In the port I had it plugged into before it would shut off every once in awhile and I'd have to unplug and plug it back in a few times to get it to work again. In the port it's in now it also doesn't work until Windows gets to the login screen, which is a pain if I need it for BIOS stuff or the "start Windows normally" screen after a power outage.

Weird issues, but I still love the feel, responsiveness and look of it.
