Lightning Returns FFXIII - Snow confirmed!

Wrong, because in that case Ashe should be much higher. Nice try though...

Ashe was not a huge representation of FFXII, she's just one of the band.

Lightning should be like that, but in reality she is like FXIII's mascot, she takes the spotlight.

I mean compare the covers and all will be clear.

Also your comment does not mean what I said is invalid, FFXII is still an "older FF" it's still grouped with all the other older Final Fantasy games.
FXIII is what's in right now, it's what's present and it's those fans that would most likely be on a FF facebook page.

They still made Snow the mother fuckin' mayor, put him in a suit, and are letting him run things in an extra dimensional luxury palace. Do you see why people are having an issue taking this seriously?

I have doubts that it's translated to "mayor" or "governor" when it's finally done. Maybe it is? But he could just be running the casino, and why not really? He's been there 500 years. I really have no idea, but I'd rather wait and see. And a suit is fine. He looks like he'd fit in at a casino, which is what Serendipity is.

Like I said, it's literally the only place he could even get to in the story. So many people bitch about "retcons" but when he sticks to the story they think it's bad? Snow's choices were to stay in the Colosseum, or Serendipity. Seems like a pretty easy choice.

I think people are having an issue "taking it seriously" because of misinformation, bad translations, and a lot of people trolling.

It seems like it could be a different place?

享楽の都市の太守 is what they said he is, and Xanadu's name is slightly different... (逸楽の宮殿ザナドゥ).

The title they give him is governor... not sure where the mayor thing keeps coming from.

So they changed it from Palace of Pleasure to City of Pleasure, and dropped the Xanadu? I guess it makes sense that he'd be a governor then. I wonder what they'll do for the English version?

Would be pretty sweet if they expanded it to be a whole city in the game.

Agreed Shinta. I did wonder how Snow would react to Serah's fate and it is expected. He looks defeated and brooding. I mean what else does a hero protect if everything he cared about was gone ?

This is so far the best Snow's character design. I'm glad also to notice they're putting more efforts in it to have better character designs than the horrible previous game. Plus remaking all the outfits of everyone? This is not a cheaper game than XIII-2, haters are gonna hate :)

Well he has lots of people to protect now, local businesses who pay protection money, the women in his brothels. I'd say he has found his calling.

I also took another look at his design, and he totally seems to have Lightning hair now. Maybe he wants to look like Lightning because he blames her for not taking care of Serah.

I beg to disagree. Every important of the story is about her and she is de facto the main character of the game. And I really doubt people are being brainwashed by boxarts. FFXIII sold 1,8m in Japan, far less than the previous entries that were well above 2 millions. FFXIII players are likely to have experience the previous FF so they had many characters to choose from and I doubt attachment for a character fades over time : Celes/Terra are pretty high and Faris and Rydia are here as well + Lightning won by two votes over Aerith (FF7, 1994).

Regardless, it still proves that Lightning has enough fans to be a character to be reckoned with, so I hardly think they can dispose of her like you seemed to wish.

It's not that people love her because of the box art, it's the weird infatuation with her people have that led Square Enix to put her on the cover. They know people only play these games for Lightning. It's because she looks like Cloud (but she is far less sexy than him).

Would play LR one of her alt costumes was Cloud during the cross-dressing part. I can fulfill my fantasies then.

I hope they either give him a haircut or a hat so we don't have to deal with that ridiculous chocobo hair again.

Checks thread: Oh LR again, smh.

Looks like Snow is actually having something like.... character development?

Your saying what I'm saying, I'm not saying that covers brainwash people, I'm saying that the covers help show us what Toriyama was going for, they prove that the games focus a LOT on Lighting more than any of the characters in FFXII, Ashe never had focus like that.

But let's just agree to disagree. ;)

I actually don't mind Lightning, it's what she represents that I don't like. (three XIII games, Versus nowhere to be seen)

I'll stop being bitter when I see Versus @ E3 this year, I promise!

Honestly? A fantasy Don Corneo Snow is probably more interesting than the real thing.

See, all jokes aside, I would buy LR if it was like that. It would mean it was closer to something like X-2 in terms of not taking itself seriously, but would still work in the context of the world and characters. In 500 years, anything flies. The premise of FFXIII trilogy from XIII-2 and on is just too ridiculous and batshit insane to take seriously.

Well, XIII-2 has tons of comedy in it. LR could go either way really.

Why are you in a sequel thread if you haven't played the original?

It's one thing to put it in a thread, behind some spoiler tags. It's another to put it in the OP with no warning at all. Personally, I hope it's not setting a precedent.

It's not general XIII-2 stuff,
it's the very end.

While Ill still be getting it probably day 1.
(Far to invested now to back out) I have to agree. Especially with XIII-2s time gimmicks and everything else it needs to ease up a bit on trying to be so serious.

Though at least from a gameplay perspective LR sounds the most interesting. Ill be pleased to see the latest gameplay at e3.

Except the guy who just said he got spoiled :/

Somehow, I find quite a few people in this thread have started XIII-2 but they didn't get to the end for whatever reason...

Anyway, as soon as they play Lightning Returns (IF they play it), they'll find out soon enough.

Unintentional comedy created through insanely stupid concepts and ideas isn't really the same thing unfortunately.

Low blow... but there were giggly-scenes in XIII-2 (Live Triggers oh god some of them are just... LOL. Many of them make Serah look like a complete doofus) while there weren't very many in XIII.

The comedy is 100% intentional. There's a comedy choice in literally every dialogue option, even during some boss fights. Mog is all comedy. You throw him at treasure chests while he screams for his life. There are even comedy alternate endings. Crazy Chocobo was trying to be funny as well.

I thought there was some dialogue that was genuinely funny. Much of which came from the more ridiculous dialogue choices they gave you the option of choosing during the Live Triggers.

No problem ;) this debate was very interesting (and it was my first debate on GAF, I have to thank you for that)

But that comedy isn't funny, it's when Toryiama is being serious that leads to the most laughs.

I mean look at The Room, it's only that funny because it wasn't trying to be. The guy tried to do comedy later but failed miserably.

I'm not saying you have to think it's funny. It's just odd to literally ask for comedy elements in FF, but ignore it when they put some in. Personally I'm fine either way, serious or comedy. So you want unintentional comedy, or intentional?

Do you like the laughing scene in FFX?

And I really need to watch The Room lol.

I dunno, I actually kind of liked some of the 'funny' live triggers and paradox endings because they were so [intentionally] silly. I felt like XIII lacked a lot of the lighthearted and funny elements and took itself too seriously almost all the time. XIII-2 had a lot of intentional humor - at least compared to XIII.

XIII definitely took itself too seriously but that made it hilarious. Vanille also brought many laughs both intentional and not.

Well when you literally make a character an "Orgasm Machine" and "Miss Moan Moan" then yeah I expect laughs of both the positive and negative sort.

I can recall three-ish scenes I would classify as lighthearted in XIII. The Hope and Vanille chat on Pulse in Chapter 11. Vanille messing with the sheep. And um... Maybe Sazh and the giant cactuar. I guess there could be more, but those scenes are so few and far between and now that I think about it, all happen on Pulse.

I'm the rare breed around here who actually likes Vanille as a character, despite her awkward moans. lol

Sazh perving on Vanille and Fang perving on Lightning.
