LittleBigPlanet Official Thread: Live in your world, play in ours.

Holy moly, according to the in-game counter, there are 95,109 people playing LBP online right now. This is compared to 'only' like 10,000 yesterday at this time. That number seems surprisingly high.

Is it possilbe to see which players that have hearted me?
I don't think so

I'm playing through this game for the first time, and it's left me disappointed so far. The graphics, the art style, and the whole aesthetic general is exception, and all the customization is very nice, but the controls are complete ass. As nice as the game looks, having to fight the controls--which are floaty and even non-responsive sometimes--is really frustrating.

Yeah I just started playing through the game this past Monday. The controls really irked me a lot at first. Like you said the super floaty jumping and the momentum that keeps your person moving after you want him to stop, is frustrating on some levels. So is the foreground/background jumping. So many times I'm trying to tap up to get in the background and it just won't happen, or I'm not standing in the right spot. The part of the game that brought this out the most is the MGS Level Pack. You have projectiles coming at you and you're supposed to dodge them by stepping in and out of the background, but it's hard to tell which layer of the background the bullets are coming in. And your jumping is so floaty that it's hard to time your jumps to avoid them because you aren't sure how long you're going to stay in the air. Like you have to really be sure to MASH and hold that X button if you want a big jump. What's also really funny to me is that so many people griped about the jumping and movement in "Prinny Can I be the Hero" on PSP and yet, I never once felt like I died in that game because of the controls/movement. I actually prefer that way much more than LBP. I know I'm definitely on the minority on that one!

So yeah my three biggest gripes with this game that has led to me being frustrated at times: 1. floaty jumping 2. not stopping on the dime/ momentum movement 3. background/foreground jumping.

Despite those things though the more I play the game the more I get "used" to it and all the creativity and art in the game just keep me coming back and wanting to play more. I love going through the user levels, people blow me away by what they are able to make. The game is really awesome, but it surprises me how much the media loved this game despite the three flaws that I pointed out that really ruin the experience for me at times.

This is such an odd game for me. As much as the controls/movement piss me off, the originality of this game makes it one of my most favorite PS3 games. I would honestly rate this game probably a 4/5. If the controls were perfect I would give it a 5/5 easy. But yeah, I can't begin to fathom how many times I've died and I've cursed at the game because I moved in a way that I didn't intend to. I mean contrast that with a game like Super Mario or something where you never felt like you ever died because of the controls.

With the exception of the background/foreground jumping being iffy if a level isn't designed to accommodate for it, I love the momentum of jumping and moving and the overall physics based controls of the game. I also don't understand your complaint about dying in LBP is unfair in comparison to SMB since the physics are consistent in LBP. I've never thought LBP screwed me on a jump I was trying to make. Jumping isn't always going to be the same depending on what you're jumping off; for example, jumping from a flat, static object compared to a crumbling floor or moving platform, etc.

There is nothing wrong with the controls. They are just different.

That was my first impression on the control but it's just because you aren't used to it. It's the first truly physics based control you play with in a platformer. It takes a little while to get it but once you do, you can't go back. It's actually very logical and precise. When you switch at some other platformer right after it will feel mechanical and baked.

Now release a Ghostbuster costume alongside her :P

Still cant believe they were charging £1.50 for that Burgerman Sticker Pack. Thats pretty ridiculous, and costumes are getting pretty boring now. Not feeling as inclined to play the game anymore to be honest.

I hope the guys working on the PSP version are smart and allow d-pad movement.
Nope, that's not happening I'm afraid. When I played the demo at E3, movement was mapped to the analog nub. One good thing to note was that it felt less floaty than the ps3 counterpart and it felt a lot better IMO.

My LBP arrived yesterday, this game is really awesome. Everything was done right, the controls, the physics, the music, the level design, shit. It's just the best PS3 game.

I'll probably end story mode today, and start creating a level... anyone from UK wanting some PSN US credits? I'm up for an exchange! (my LBP is UK, and my credit Card only works in the US PSStore)

Why did you buy LBP in the UK then? I'm glad you're enjoying the game though.

Game.co had it for R$51, in eStarland it would be something like R$120.

(I'm from Brazil, I have to import my games)

I finally got my create trophy, I can't believe it. Thanks anymore who played and hearted my levels. I just need to ace about half the levels now :p I also have about 2/3 of a another level created so I'm going to try to finish that up. wooo

Media Molecule working on a "new, ground-breaking, PS3 title"

"A job listing posted on June 5, 2009, confirms that Media Molecule, developers of the fantastic and unequalled LittleBigPlanet are working on a new PS3 title.

The developers are looking for a gameplay programmer for "ground-breaking, AAA, PS3 title for Sony Computer Entertainment" as part of an expansion of Media Molecule Ltd.

It was thought that the developers were working only on LittleBigPlanet PSP, as the studio is fairly small and employs only a handful of people. This news is good news for PS3 owners, and certain requirements in the listing suggest that this game will be LittleBigPlanet 2.

The listing asks for "experience writing and maintaining physics code" and requires the prospective employee to have "shipped a console game with an online component." This is obviously all speculation, but don't be too shocked when the game announced is LittleBigPlanet 2 (or LittleBigUniverse?)"

I couldn't imagine getting my create trophy now. I t would be such a pain to do it. The best time for doing that trophy was when the game first came out.

IT's been very close for some time. My levels aren't great, but they had had some decent machines in them. I'm a programmer not an artist, so It's funny to me to see myself spend hours and hours on an overly complicated device and see other people create stylictic master pieces. It's really the pachinko machine I created that put my over the top. My other levels were long and complicated, but the 3 minutes pachinko machine got the hits. In fact, my longer level (which had some bugs) was only ever completed by one person, bebpo it turns out <3

>_< It happend again someone copy the art style for my Black and White level -_- I dont mind them geting ideas from my levels but dont copy my levels style and look <_< geez

go play "black and white with ad world song" by Dado_ Dido and then play my and see what you think :/

its not like I am that well know in LBP but I like my own art style to my levels and want to keep them as my own.

Sorry I missed everyone this weekend. Had a wake and funeral to attend. I've got most nights off, so I'll try and hop on nightly to see if anyone else is on and wants to do the 4x runs. Also, if you're on and don't see me on, I'm either on my 360 (GT: ianswoody) or got my laptop next to me, so you can PM me on GAF.

I played the beta and played the demo and wasn't terribly impressed. However, the full version is blowing me away. What an incredible game. My first evening with LBP has proven just as amazing and exciting as my time with SMG. Hopefully the community aspect will sustain this game for a while for me. The levels by pinizep are incredible.

I popped this in the first time in months. However they're determining "Cool Levels" is NOT WORKING. I played 10 levels, and only one was decent. My own level is pretty mediocre, but it's better than 80% of what I've seen online. Most of them don't even have obstacles!

You played a demo that never existed?:lol Cool, how was it?

Be flattered IMO. As a consumer of user created levels, I like to see various art styles put to use and having several of the same style levels by different people is cool.

Someone be a pal and help me do some runs through some levels for stickers, working on that 100% today. PSN: adam_prime hit me up!

Did a search and all that popped up was 'pinkzep'. What is the name of one of the levels?

I noticed that since the last patch, Druid and Liberty costumes have their own "outfits" section in the saved costumes menu. Anyone know how to get the other costumes already bought in there? I've tried re-downloading, but all it says is that I've already purchased those items.

So last night I played some really amazing stages, some of you may have already tried though. It was "Empire of the Snow Queen" Chapters 1 to 3 by IceMaiden. Definitely check them out. They managed to look really professional and atmospheric without applying a ton of a effects that slow down the game.

EDIT: Holy shit Ghostbusters, awesome!!

Are there 5 kind souls here who can hook me up with creator hearts?

I just published my new level which is based on the album "The Mechanical Hand" by HORSE the band if there are any fans in here. It's tracks 1-7 and the rest will be coming soon (meaning not for a while).
