Yes, you can.

in FF -> Extras -> Greasmonkey -> click the second option from above (should be something like 'manage userscripts' in the english version) -> select the neogaf_live_thread script left -> in the left bottom corner click 'edit' -> search for notepad.exe (it's in your C:\Windows\system32\ -folder) -> search for the part below and change to bold part

Code:
function letsJQuery() {

// These can be changed
var options = {
    "debug": false,
    "delay": [B]10[/B]*1000, // 10 seconds
    "img": {
        "on": 'http://i.imgur.com/JexZF.gif',
        "off": 'http://i.imgur.com/TwgIk.gif',
        "close": 'http://i.imgur.com/GBCMU.png'
    }
}

edit: Then of course save it with ctrl+s and close notepad. Refresh gaf and there you go!
YES THANK YOU SO MUCH it worked perfectly with that explanation THANKS X1000
Set it to about 2.5 min.

Won't this kill the servers?

I would advise against doing this. I found that when it was <1 minute it would often return nothing and if the server is down (like a 500 error) it actually makes your updates slower because the script doubles the next timer if nothing comes back.

I did put a button in at the bottom of the page if you're impatient and you want want to update immediately. Use that.

I was hoping sticking the .js file in my opera javascript folder would make it work in Opera but no luck :/
(And yes my folder settings are correct, i use a .js on Facebook and 4chan).

same :[

I would love to some how bodge this to also work on Safari iPad.

Either way will be really nice for the fast moving threads, E3, World Cup, NPD....

The web-app already has that in there...not so much auto-update, but at least manual refresh.

Definitely not going to get this to work with iPad unless it'd be in some other browser for now.

The concept of this script is amazing.

It's actually one of those things I think off when I imagine a perfect gaf/forum. Another one would be a script that allows you to add little notes and reminders for every thread and every user.

Would be nice to see stuff like this integrated into GAF, always thought since my tag that there is a tonne of opertunities with quick little changes to the forum.

Hopefully the style change a few months ago was the first of many things.

I also would love to be able to set the update time in this as a setting.

I would love it if the refresh icon/on & off button was at the bottom of the page instead of the top.

I've always assumed there was some way to do this before and I just wasn't tech savy enough. Good job man, you took the World Cup thread thread to a whole new level :D

This rules and I love you and you are awesome.

I'm guessing it'll have trouble updating around E3 time (and users running this script may not help matters...) but it still beats F5ing by a long shot.

ok I added this since a couple of people asked.

I'm not sure how Chrome goes about installing extension updates (I think it's automatic) but if you install the extension again you should see it

likewise, if you're using the gm script just install it again if you want the icon at the bottom (it's also at the top)

Awesome! Thanks man.

Just wanted to say thanks for this! It's pretty awesome for when I'm at work and not logged in. I can just open up several tabs and let them refresh with this. Makes it a hell of a lot easier to track new posts when not logged in while GAF has the stupid Marked as Read bug.

Check4Change (ff addon) basically does the same thing, but for any site.
It doesn't do the same thing. It just refreshes the page. This adds on new posts without you having to go to the next page plus lets you close previous pages whenever you want.

For example, you can enter a new thread with only one page, turn this on.. then it refreshes and checks for new posts then adds them onto the end of the previous posts. Once it reaches the next page it puts an X button to allow you to close the previous page if you want. Or, you can just let it keep going and have it all on one page.

This is a great idea, but is there any way you could make it possible to turn it on by default? It's annoying that it gets turned off when you click away for any reason, including replying and advancing to the next page.

He can, but he doesn't want to.

As a feature request, would it be possible to enable an "always on" feature instead of having to enable it?
I'd rather not do that.

edit: what KimiSan said.

People are going to be F5'ing like crazy and there's not much anyone can do about that. This isn't designed to encourage that, just control it a bit and make the experience of using gaf a little more pleasant when things like E3 are happening.

It doesn't get turned off for me when I move to a different tab...

Opera support, by chance?

It runs as a content script and doesn't maintain a state. I can't do anything about this.

I would recommend that if you're going to reply to a post, the best thing to do is open that link in a new tab then close it and go back to the thread when you're done. Your post will show up in the next update.

I'll take a look at this today.

This is incredible, I love how it just adds the posts smoothly on the bottom without refreshing or taking me to the top of the page again, which makes following fast E3 or WC threads soooo much better. Thank you so much.

Sounds very useful, trying it out now :D.

Opera java script seems to be working here :D

Thanks!

Quick edit. Is it meant to stop spinning after i actually post in a thread? Did that just then in this one.

Don't like it.

The 17 second wait is meh. Say I click update and there are no new posts after 2 seconds. I have to wait 15 seconds to click it again. I could just hit F5 instead right? Well.. the extension adds succeeding posts/pages to whatever page you start out on. If I click reload it reloads that old page I started on. I'd have to manually type in the latest page.

Just want to say again how awesome this is, used it well in the F1 thread today while the race was on, worked a treat :)

Nothing will beat F5 spam for super fast checks, I would say this is best for when you are hopping between watching a stream or tv, and checking threads, you can just turn to the pc and scroll over the new replies and then watch tv again, works well for that stuff.

This wasn't designed to spam. That's the reason why there's a timer and a minimum 15 second wait between requests. I'm not going to change this.

it can't change the URL in your address bar. These scripts don't have that sort of access (for obvious reasons)

I thought this might be a problem for some people so that's why there's a page spacer added. It provides a link to the current page the script is loading so that you can find quickly if you want to go to it.

There's nothing I can do about this. I know it's annoying.

Cool. Worldcup thread and E3 conference thread is a must of this. Question: Does this help or hinder neogaf server load?
