Lollipop Chainsaw Screenshots (Grasshopper, PS3/360)

ITT: People can't handle a female in a skirt

"OH NOEZ I AM EMBARRASSED BY THIS! PEOPLE WILL THINK I AM PERVERT!"

Had the main character been a generic dudebro like half the games this gen there'd be no issue.

So many haters in this thread. It's sad.

Myself, I quite enjoy when companies make games specifically for me. Female character, abundance of pink, chainsaws, cheerleaders, zombies, Akira Yamaoka music... somebody's been reading my diary!

Also, nothing but head-shaking at the "I'd be embarrassed to buy this OHNOES!!" crowd. That's pretty pathetic.

man this is what the industry needs, nonsensical, over the top, just fucking fun japanese games I'm sick of alien invasions and soap operas, give me something cool to have fun with.

judging by past GHM games that'll probably not be the case

also it seems to me right now to just be another Dead Rising but with a cheerleader. Doesn't seem so novel

Why? Some things ARE inherently embarrassing to purchase when they reveal you to be a shuttering gross self-loathing weeaboo with the hots for loli-type characters.

Not saying that's the case for this game, but there are definitely games I don't want to be seen publicly buying. I am some fucking pride.

Looks interesting, excited to see what unique gameplay mechanics Grasshopper uses. Somehow I doubt this will be another generic zombie game. Although I'm still waiting for a story and setting to rival Killer 7...

That hurts. : (
Cause it's true.

I still really loved playing NMH1, though. Never got tired of the fighting system.
edit: NMH2's Shinobu sections were awful, I'm sorry.

I want to see this, hahahaha!
Was GalGun the only time they've done that before?

Some people are offended by an image of a cute girl in a mini-skirt but have no issue looking at grizzled, sweaty men with big muscles.

That's their thing, let them have it.

Again. Why? What are you basing this off of?

I feel like there's some trailer for this game that I haven't seen where she's making out with a zombie and the gameplay is being shown in full form that I haven't seen

If Lollipop Chainsaw was the greatest game of all time, I still wouldn't buy it because of the name (not even getting into the over-sexualized main character, designed for sex-deprived perverts).

So insecure.

Yeah, I kind of agree. It's like when this 20 something year old came in to buy Kirby's Epic yarn. My first reaction was embarrassment for the guy. Then I realized it was a pretty stupid way of looking at it. Dude bought what he liked and didn't give a fuck.

From the media we have it looks like another over-the-top melee-focused zombie killing game with a decidedly Japanese sensibility, which is what Dead Rising is. Only I think the chainsaw will be essentially tethered to you and it'll be less about picking up random shit on the floor all the time

I'm sure it'll differ in lots of ways too but it's just the vibe it's giving off.

How about you buy a game if it seems interesting to you, and not give a damn what the person behind the counter thinks? I don't know, I see absolutely no reason why I should care what somebody else thinks of what I'm purchasing, and I've never done so.

Buying one game in no way reveals you to be a "shuttering gross self-loathing weeaboo", and even if it does, so what? Either the person behind the counter knows you, and thus knows that isn't all you're into, or they're some stranger and there isn't one reason in the world to give a damn about their opinion on anything.

Having "pride" means having a backbone and not caring what other people think of you in the course of doing what you want.

Dead Rising has a decidedly Japanese sensibility? The game based off Romero's Dawn of the Dead?

Also, over the top melee focused says more Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden than Dead Rising. All we've seen her use in the screenshots is her own limbs and the chainsaw, where as Dead Rising is all about having tons of tools available.

Yes. It's got the lame over-the-top Japanese style cutscenes, the litany of randomly absurd weapon humour, running about wearing diapers and shit. it's Japanese through and through.

Right, that's lovely if you think that. I, on the other hand, will keep my dignity and won't go to the counter with games that make me look like I'm a pedophile weeaboo. Just not my style.

Plenty of games that don't aim to the lowest common denominator in society. No reason for me to go there.

double moral standards

kill millions of people enemies or civilians like in GTA or Modern Warfare is great but partly nudity is a big thing

I liked NMH1's combat, even though it lacked depth in the end. But that's about it. The side missions, driving, loading screens, and repetition just made it really bitter sweet, those were atrocious. And I agree, how the hell did the Shinobu platforming sections make into the final game?

You were embarrassed because he was buying a Kirby game? That's kind of bizarre. I mean, the game is kind of crappy, but it's not like the box is plastered with lolis or a grunting power fantasy.

So buying a game about a giant army dude murdering hundreds of other humans is not embarrassing?

You have some weeaboo art of a little pedo-looking kid as your avatar. Does that mean I should assume you're a shotacon? I mean, if you're really that sensitive to what people think about you based on your choices.

And really, we're talking about a game with a high-school cheerleader as the main character. The "OMG I'm a pedophile if I buy this game" arguments are pretty silly.

This.

Could not give a shit if someone saw me buying or playing this game.

The fallacy (the flipside of which is also exhibited in every lowbrow Western game topic but has surprisingly appeared among quite a few here) that any possible critique comes from a place of braindead allegiance to lowbrow Western tropes suggests that certain people aren't coming from a place of "pride" but of "resentment" or "desperation." A generation that hasn't catered to Eastern fans doesn't excuse perceived laziness from either developer or fan. Again, not all people are being that way.

People who genuinely like their comfort food don't act spiteful when others react badly to it.

Not in current US society.

Also, avoid any potential shame by ordering online!
Just don't let anyone see your "recommended for you" list.

I have to admit I'm a little confused that you see this game as made for you. Actually I see several girls in this thread saying similar things. I see this as eye candy aimed at men just like so many other games.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not offended or anything silly like that; I'm just not seeing any appeal.

Well, like I said, he was an older guy. A box with a cheerleader wouldn't have been strange. Got over it in an instant anyways, since neither scenario matters, its just personal taste.

There is a solution for all of you self-conscious manly men, it is called Amazon.com. With this place you can buy the game without getting your masculinity judged by an employee working in a local gaming retail shop.

There are certainly games that do that and advertise that way as well. Some of the DOA stuff made it hard not to feel like a creep when you purchased it. The character in this game certainly has an over the top sex appeal, to me, its kinda hard to take it too seriously to be creepy, sort of like Bayonetta. Thats a game that emphasized its sex appeal, but I just couldn't take that aspect of it seriously so she never bothered me.

this game looks boring and the premise seems boring and the aesthetic is really really boring

i wish i could be more constructive but that's how i feel

How is a kid pedo-looking exactly?

I dunno. The mature, wine sipping side of me is all like "This is so puerile. I am slightly offended."
The part of me that still likes to watch Transformer cartoons is like "BOOOBS."

Being a man is hard.

A completely non-sexualized image of a boy with a sense of wonder in his face is not what we're talking about.

Like I said, it's fine if that's what you are into and have no problem seeing that. But let's not act like there isn't plenty of reason to have some sense of embarrassment going to the counter with SOME of these games. As a fully grown adult that sort weeaboo loli Japanese shit is inherently repulsive. Not saying Lollipop Chainsaw is one of them, talking in general terms.

Anyone who has to hide something this harmless from their significant other must have an unbearable prude relationship. I mean look at it: It's so stupid! It's gonna be fun!

And I'm sure the sexual/vulgar humor will be very self-aware and subtly clever like Shadows of the Damned and any other Grasshopper game.

That would be great. You know what happens when the industry tries to "grow up"? We shit like GTA4, devoid of the fun that was in the previous games.

I like some video games but also there are some video games I dont like.

Thats my two cents.

That isn't a sense of wonder in Lucas' face, it's a look of disgust at how boring everything is!

I agree, GTA: VC and San Andreas were fun because it didn't take itself too seriously. Lots of Japanese RPG's are fun when they don't take themselves too seriously, Grandia, Neptunia, Ar Tonlelico, etc.

The moment they start trying hard to "grow up" it starts losing its charm.

Hey, some sacrifices have to be made in order to get Oscar-quality writing.
