GB is absent from a lot of those as well, Olympics back in the day was more about USA vs Soviet block countries.
Near the end of the Cold War we are in all top tens.

British travel agencies should have sold Olympic holiday packages where Americans could have gone there just to watch the Olympics on BBC for a a couple of weeks.

Indeed. I think every British person freely admits that we have done terribly in the Olympics in the recent past with 1996 being an utter low point. Lottery funding has made a world of difference for our elite sports, and long may that continue. In fact Hunt has increased funding back to 20% for "good causes" which are comprised of sports and arts, it represents a huge funding boost for elite sports which will hopefully keep the momentum going for Rio. I know that the training regimes being used in cycling and rowing are being adapted for swimming right now, so the rest of the world had better watch out...
Well on the BBC the other day they had a chunk of Beijing track and a chunk of London track. The Beijing track had square rubber things on the bottom and the London one hexagon thingies which meant energy could be transferred better in a non-linear manner.

Having a stiff track isn't good, you want it to be elastic so it is pushed down by the athletes feet so it can then push the foot upwards propelling the athlete forward.

Been trying all day to get some Paralympic tickets with little luck.
Still, I love watching that sport. Welp, looks like it's gonna be wrestling for me.
