I'm really rather liking Chris Boardman on Olympics Tonight. A nice line in deadpan humour that we don't really see in his commentary.

It's pretty damn fair to blame the refs for that loss. There's nothing to "grow up" about in that situation.

Its part of the game. Their bitter tears were flowing in rivers.

Yes soccer in general has a sucky ass system. Until we get replay you have to live with what refs say. So live with it :P

Umm.. what? I don't know what sport you watch.

Edit: how is criticising a referee who made a wrong decision anywhere near the same as belittling an opponents ability?
Pre-game: http://espn.go.com/olympics/summer/...ted-states-clips-canada-extra-time-spot-final

Herdman said before the game that the run of futility against the Americans was on the minds of his players, and he addressed it with them in the run-up to the match. He also injected some pregame intrigue by accusing the Americans of using "highly illegal," overly physical tactics on free kicks and corner kicks.

And then all the dirty shit Tancredi was doing all game? Yeah, you're not likely to get any compliments from the team.

Please tell me you are being intentionally obtuse as some kind of joke, or take off the coloured lenses.

Says the guy adding nothing to the conversation but accusing other people of not knowing what they are talking about :P

Both sides were being obtuse. Neither so much so that it should be an issue.

I mean..ok. I can definitely admit it was a poor call. Absolutely. But the game was not over at that point- Canada ended up with what, 40 minutes left to score another one? I remember watching the WC last year and thinking the US was supremely screwed by the refs versus Brazil, and then they came back.

Its not like that call literally cost Canada the game- Canada had plenty of time to overcome it.

Bad reffing is part of the game? Not really. Those were just plain bad calls that few people have even tried to defend. If you lost something that you only got a chance to win once every 4 years because of bullshit calls then i'm pretty sure that you'd be pissed off about it too.

A legit complaint about the officiating in that game. A time count is never called without a warning. On top of it Wamback was standing next to the ref counting out loud. It's completely classless and cheap. Play the game and let the refs do the officiating.

Now FIFA is talking about suspensions for Canada? Total BS.

I thought it would be trivial to point out the difference between blaming the ref for a mistake that decided the game (a fact, something you'd see someone like Sir Alex point out too) and citing the overly physical nature of the US team (a fact, and something anyone would mention before playing Stoke for example) versus calling out a player on their ability.

Eh I don't much care either way. I just find it ridiculous that people are saying the American girls were out of line when the Canadians were being just as harsh.

....and yes it is part of the game. When you allow your opponent to be tied with you you KNOW you run the risk of one bad call changing the game.

Korea has enough gold as well. Japan-Korea for bronze in football and volleyball, have a feeling that's how it's gonna be.

S. Korea total = 23
USA total = 70

S. Korea will upset USA by taking the win!

;)

Congratzs to Germany for that dominating win in Men's Beach Volleyball. The way they caressed each other on the sand was very romantic.

People upset about Fred Evans progressing in the boxing: Apparently the Canadians have lodged a protest. That might not be over just yet.

Lots of *very* careful phrasing while talking about the 1500m on Olympics Tonight. Although it does provide a reasonable explanation for the doctor's note without *quite* making it sound so shady (covering up for an administrative fuckup rather than something worse)

She was warned at half time because she did it before. If I was down in the game with time expiring, I would do whatever I could to stop players from wasting time.

"I had gotten to 10 seconds counting out loud next to the referee," Wambach said. "And at 10 seconds she blew the whistle, and I think it was a good call. Yes, it's uncharacteristic for that call to be made in a soccer game, but the rules are the rules."

"Here's the thing — we needed a goal," Wambach added. "They're trying to waste time, and I'm trying to speed it up. You can say it's gamesmanship, you can say it's smart, but I'm a competitor and I want to get the ball back at our feet."

And about suspensions--the only one I would suspend is Tancredi for what she did on the field. Trash.

Im just curious how people expect Americans to react where the Canadians go on and on and on about how the "ONLY" reason why
They lost is because of the call. Maybe they should instead by asking how the Americans scored 3 other goals.

The ending of Olympics Tonight is perfectly pitched to wind down. It's even better when the programme happens to end on the stroke of midnight.

Well if you accept the fact that we lost because of the call on the penalty kick, then that ET winning goal wouldn't have counted because it wouldn't have gone INTO ET. Then you should ask how we let the Americans score 2 other goals, not 3.

It's a really great show. If you only watched that in all the 2 weeks you'd get a great taste of the olympics without having to watch constantly.

Game wasnt over. So no you did not lose because of the call.

Plus the fact that Gabby Logan has done a surprisingly great job presenting the show (Olympics Tonight). Together with Ian Thorpe she has been the revelation among the presenters and pundits on the BBC.

It's not like the American fans are doing their best to be insufferable. Nope, not at all....

Hey we didn't bring it back up. Canadian continue to whine and bitch about it then get offended when Americans mock them. Stop being sore losers!

If the Canadian who stomped the American in the face had been properly punished USA would have won by eight goals so really the refs kept Canada in the game. You should be thanking them.
