How long until Lemaitre fails to medal and French-GAF hangs themselves?
Is BMX offial olympic sport or is just for demostration ?
I think funding the olympics (public or private) is really a waste of money
Would be better spent on charity and let some of the money drain out of competitive sports
Removing funding from sport doesn't automatically mean you can spend it on charity.
What time is the men's 200m finals? finding out the times of events is such a clusterfuck. I go to nbcolympics.com and they have the time as 2:05, but then google has it as 3:55. NBC is really terrible with the coverage.
Bob Beamon and Mike Powell's long jump records are crazy. Not sure if shown already, pretty awesome:

Why would you come into the Olympics thread, where we are watching the games, to try to have a debate?
Michael Johnson has been really under-utilised this Olympics by the BBC, which is a shame, considering how insightful he is. And now he's talking to fucking Gary Lineker. Awful.

Go here and push the "my time" link under the full schedule. http://www.london2012.com/schedule-and-results/today-medals.html

Anyone know what those black rectangles on the poles next to every audience member is? Google brings up nothing. Thanks.

My brother is waiting for the USWNT match to start -- he got tickets to the gold medal match before the games began so I was crossing my fingers that we'd make it so he could see them. He's put up a number of pics during the games if anyone wants to see them: http://statigr.am/madoublethew
Here is one he put up of the exterior of Wembley about an hour ago. He texted me one from inside but that's kind of a pain to go through the upload process.
LED light panels, they were used in the opening ceremony.
They are lights, they were used the opening ceremony
They're a paddle with lights on, they're removable and during the opening ceremony we were encouraged to move them in time with the music.
Thiose are the leds light used in the opening , pretty sure they will use again in the close ceremoy.

Indeed. How Johnson isn't in the stadium I don't know. I think they should make him the host for Rio!
Edit: There it is. Colin Jackson knows shit about running the 200m, he just said that Blake would come steaming from behind to overtake Bolt on the back straight, if anything it would be the other way around as Bolt tends to start poorly and runs a poor bend while he powers the final 120m.
Time for the last Volleyball semi-final.
Brazil vs Japan
Bolt usually runs the bend very well.
Yeah, I bet they paid some good money for him too.
Not really, Bolt's first 100m of the 200 is down on his 100m WR and his Olympic performance, while his second 100m of the 200 is much faster than his 100m WR.
That's true for everyone though. They're already near top speed for the second 100m, and running a bend for the first. I think he runs the bend better than his competition.
I doubt it's a massive amount. He's worked with the BBC for over 10 years (since Sydney?) and he seems to really enjoy it. But yeah, he's head and shoulders above any of the other pundits. Ian Thorpe was insightful and funny in the Aquatics Centre, I'd like to see the BBC strike up an equally lucrative partnership with him.
Neither of those things mean he runs a poor turn. Not really, Bolt's first 100m of the 200 is down on his 100m WR and his Olympic performance, while his second 100m of the 200 is much faster than his 100m WR.
