I know there was a brief mention of this in the Comics thread, but there doesn't seem to be a thread specifically related to it.
Longbox is a new digital distribution system for Comics coming later in the year:

I think this is a great idea, especially with the discount vouchers for trades and the subscriptions for a whole series they are going to do.
Digital can be a real jumping off point for people to get into a series they haven't heard of before without forcing them to find their local (if they have one) comic shop to find it may be sold out - I started reading Ultimate Spider-Man using Marvel's crap flash viewer years ago, but didn't really start reading comics until Uni (thank you student loan), if a proper digital system had been in place from Marvel or anyone back then I imagine I would have started sooner.
This will be great if it lets me grab the comics mid-week from a proper source rather than relying on "other" sources so I don't have to wait till Saturday. (I do buy all the ones I read mid-week I'd like to point out [I know that doesn't make it right] and I am trying to ween myself 100% off "other" sources, like I did with games and music (Steam was a big help with this, which is why I'm so behind this idea))
Obviously they would need to snag Marvel and DC to make this the real revolution it needs to be and with that comes obviously more prominent ads, hopefully we could pay a premium and skip the ads, I know I'd rather read them sans ads.
My only worry is what happens if the company goes bust, they state the comics are in a proprietary format, if they promise like Valve to release a tool to bypass their own DRM should they go bust this wouldn't be a problem.
