They probably mean they wanted the graphics to resemble the more anime-style concept/promotional art of classic castlevania:
More Vampire Hunter D, less Lord of the Rings.
Man Ayami Kojima is so freaking good.

Strange that this 3 year old thread finds new life.
this post is hurting my head
That's not classic Castlevania though. They probably mean they wanted the graphics to resemble the more anime-style concept/promotional art of classic castlevania:

This is classic Castlevania.
In the end they used an artistic style closer to Kojima's for MoF and Los 2. I mean, their Alucard is just the SOTN one palette swapped.
Best. Castlevania. To. Date.
I will fight anyone who says otherwise!!!
Too bad it runs like shit. It's always been more impressive for a game to run at 60 fps and look good than for it to just look "good"
it's a damn good Hack and Slash game, what makes it unique from the others is that it's varied and very long
Yeah, I liked LoS far more than GoW3 as well back then. Never got around to LoS2, though. Is it that bad? It's breathtaking, loved it. It did the "epic journey" thing so much better than GoW3 (although I liked that too). Shame what happened after this game.

there's parts, or certainly some character's that remind me of Pan's Labyrinth. The 2nd game had some really good looking moments too, there's a fight in a woodland area that looked greatThis is not hyperbole...
the first LoS is the game with the greatest art style ever.
Not talking about graphics di per sé, but the art.
The envitonments are the greatest I've ever seen in my vg career.
Timbers with trolls, a gothic castle, a mad scientist lab, a bewitched music box and the depths of hell itself.
Some of these locations are stereotypized, but their rendition is pure delight.
I would play LoS again just to experience its locations and level design once more...
Listening to this soundtrack again. My God. A damn shame we won't get a Lords of Shadow with Simon.
I am unfortunately not a long post man. This game is beautiful and powerful. I'm so sad the team fell apart after part 1.
The music, the graphics, the story, the epicness. Never would I have imagined Castlevania like this.
I know many of you don't like it. But man, I do.
I love every chapter and every quest. Epic. I wanted more but it didn't happen. Not the way it should have.
It is what it is. I expect no replies because to most it's already forgotten.
Still, it's my favorite of last Gen, and looks awesome on PC.
What a quest.
