LOST 06.07: "Dr. Linus" (108. Solo)

Someone needs to capture some Jackfaces from the Black Rock conversation. I'm sure I caught some glimpses of some good ones.

Stupid opening credits blew the Widmore surprise a few minutes early for me. For whatever reason I noticed the fact that Alan Dale was credited, and kept waiting for him to show up. So when the last flashback ended, and still no sign of Widmore, I knew he was going to show up somehow.

I think Terry is going to have some competition come Emmy-time. What a great episode.

And holy shit! Someone on the island is finally figuring things out. My rating of Jack has increased tremendously.

why didn't he just say, well I'm gonna expose your inappropriate affair to everyone if you don't also write her an amazing recommendation?

Because then Alex wouldn't go to Yale?

- Jack’s “lets talk” carries no badassery whatsoever since he cant kill himself. Another Jack fail

You forget that Richard doesn't know what in the hell is going on. He doesn't necessarily know that Jacob touched Jack.

I need to stop looking at the guest starring credits at the beginning of episodes. Spoiled me on Widmore, Alex.
Yeah, kind of a letdown. And they strongly alluded to it in the pop-up text in the previous episode, too.

Desmond NEEDS to be on that sub though.
YES.

Say hi to my ignore list.

Only on GAF would someone nerd rage over something so petty as a harmless opinion.
:lol

"LOST FEELS LIKE A TELEVISION SHOW NOW AND I HATE TELEVISION", is one of the most ridiculous statements I've ever heard. It's almost as bad as the LOST haters who use the carrot/stick excuse for why they hate the show that they don't even watch. But hey, feel free to put me on your ignore list because you can't back up your retarded opinions.

Time for the one weekly spoiler I AM allowed to indulge in: next week is "Recon", starring everyone's favorite con man, the Sawy-boy.

Anyone else really glad that they're back at the beach camp?
Next episode should just be Hurley and Sawyer playing ping pong, Jack whacking some golf balls into the ocean. Good times!

Great one, perhaps the best of the season. Timeline X didn't annoy me as it usually does and lots of meaningful events on the island. Yeah!

Dr. Linus > The Substitute > LAX > Lighthouse > Sundown > What Kate Does

Maybe he did. We don't know what the final proposed deal was but looks like that was it since the letter of recommendation was "more than amazing" according to Alex.

Oh and FUCK! ALEX LOOKS SO HOT! :/

Enjoyable character episode, but with 9 episodes left in the series I was hoping for a little more plot-wise.

Tons of answers and plot progression in this one for me.

- We pretty much know what we really need to know about Richard. He came on the black rock, was touched by Jacob, can die but not by his own hand, and was told that there was some meaning to his life. He doesn't seem to know whats going on, and his longevity is because of magic.

- We found out for certain what a "candidate" is. We know definitely that the candidates are to replace Jacob.

- We know that the candidates have similar powers to Richard, or better yet, that they definitely have a "reason" for being. I'm not sure if the scene with the dynamite was supposed to imply that Jack was ageless like Richard or not, but we definitely know that there is a "magic" of sorts protecting him.

- We know that Jacob really wanted Ben to not kill him, for some reason, he wasn't allowed or didn't care to express it more. They have always maintained that you have to do things or not do things because you do or do not want to. Ben had a choice, he chose to kill Jacob, and Jacob regretted that.

- We know more about the situation between Illana and Jacob. I had assumed in the past that she was more like a "bodyguard" of some sorts like Ben said, but he was definitely more important to her than that.

- Jack is COMPLETELY a believer at this point. There is no turning back. He doesn't give a shizznit about science anymore.

- In the alt timeline, we know that Alex was still born, and that her mother was still Danielle.

- In the alt timeline, we know that Ben and his father left the island for some reason. Still don't know anything about the bomb or whether that played into it, but it's something.

Since I called The Substitute the best episode of LOST since The Constant, Dr Linus is now the best episode of LOST since The Constant. And another rewatch might push it over that one for me.

Does anyone evene care that the jacob touching thing was touched upon? Ties into all of those times that people werent allowed to die, michaels failed suicide(both gun and car) and maybe even the fact that jin didnt get blown to smitherines. (Thisw also makes me thiink cbhristian might somebhow actually be team jacob, being that he was the one who showed up to release michael from his inability to die.) Also ben was a loophole for a second time and killed locke because he probably qwouldnt have been allowed to kill himself, unless jacob already gave up on him at that point.

now whos side is widmore on? Obviously ben didnt know about this whole shit, and alpert knew little... i wonderhow much widmore really knows.

I saw Alan Dale, too, but I forgot who he played so it didn't spoil anything. :lol

I'm gonna have to sober up and watch this shit again.

LOST Season 6 is epic. And if you don't believe that, GAF, if you can't believe that...then wait until you see what they're about to do.. :)

I think Des is getting there by other means, but probably near the end

I almost feel like he has to be getting there soon. Desmond has been my favorite by and far since Season 2. LOST doesn't feel the same without him now.

thank god we are done with that dumb ass temple set, shit looked so fake and ridiculous.

also, this episode was fucking awesome.

Updated season rankings:
Dr. Linus > The Substitute > LA X 1/2 > Sundown > Lighthouse > What Kate Does

sounds right but Jack doesn't even know he was touched by Jacob and thus his scene of faith is fucking great.

So is it possible both Jin & Sun are candidates together? (and jacob touched both right?)

Jin survived the explosion somehow, and Sun gave birth on an island where birth is supposed to kill you. Maybe they are a combo candidate, and if they broke up they would have been crossed out

If he exposes Principal Douchebag, his recommendation is meaningless.

I guess you're right. He could've just posed as if he didn't give a fuck about her well-being, but I suppose that blew up in his face the last time...:lol

With the consecutive 4 episode run of The Substitute to Lighthouse to Sundown to Dr Linus, I think we're finally on a roll that can legitimately challenge the roll the show was on the final 4 episodes of S3, which is the best string of episodes the show has ever had.

I hope everyone who whined last week that the ABC preview "spoiled" Ben dying take a step back and check their gullible meters now, so we may never have to endure that wave of tiresome foolishness again.

seriously.

like i said, there was NO WAY they were going to spoil that.

Goddamn.
Goddamn.

Excellent episode. Very likely the best of the season. This was Emerson at his very best. His X story was touching and a great parallel to the Ben of seasons past, and his Prime story was also sad and moving.
Widmore was a huge WTF. I accidentally saw his name in the guest cast, but figured he would appear off-island, so I still didn't see the sub coming.
Alpert and Jack and Hurley were awesome. Especially this Jack. He's actually got his act together.
Right now, my list of best candidates is 1) Jack 2) Hurley 3) Ben 4) Sawyer 5) Locke. I think having Ben take over, even though he's not on the list, would be cool.
When Alex showed up at the door, I was thinking she would be a bad turn for the episode. But she seemed like she really tried and succeeded in acting younger. And she is hot.
Roger and Ben talking about the DI was also an awesome scene. I want to learn their full story pre-X timeline.
Ilana is actually pretty awesome. So were Frank and Miles this episode. UHOH :lol
Arts was also a cool throwback.
SPOILER FOR THE CENTRICITY OF AN UPCOMING EPISODE
Wonder what Richards ep will deal with. We already know he was on the Black Rock. What else are we going to see? Just a TON of Jacob/Richard/MIB backstory? A man can dream.
SMALL SYNOPSIS OF THE PREVIEW, WHICH I ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO WATCH
This weeks preview for next week was perfect. It really only had 3 shots I remember: Kate crying, Kate with Sawyer, and the beach group around a fire. It was put together with some cool music, and it's a great hype-booster. I recommend it.

10/10 episode.

The island that Dharama went to probably isn't the same island.

Well, in LA-X, they showed a sunken island that had barracks on them. I had assumed, and it really seemed to point to, that this was THE island. There was even Dharma sharks I believe.

Thats an interesting thought though, I never really considered that.

Okay, fantastic episode. I didn't particularly like how Alex was worked into the story, but it turned out to be pretty interesting.

Notes:

BIG ANSWERS:
- Yes, Richard was a slave/prisoner on the Black Rock. A theory from S3 confirmed.
- Jacob's chosen ones can die, but not at their own hands, explaining both Jack's and Michael's failure to commit suicide. Also, didn't Desmond try killing himself at some point? And Radzinsky was on Jacob's list at some point, so this might be a nice hint that Kelvin Inman killed him instead.
- "Why Lapidus wasn't on 815". Might not be absolutely vital,
- Why Ilana is important. Basically Jacob's adopted daughter, but she had never been to the island before, implying that Jacob took many, somewhat extended trips, off island.
- Alex is the first character we've seen that was born after The Incident that is alive in both timelines, and Ben's father made it seem like he left The Island willingly, not because it, you know, sunk. This is a HUUUUGE suggestion that the timeline split occurred later than Jughead going off.

LITTLE ANSWERS:
- Nicki and Paulo's diamonds turned out to be fairly significant, three years later.
- Even after Smokey leaves, the island needs somebody to take care of it. Could be a lie, good be important.

Nice bits:
- "There's no Place Like Home" playing as our Losties return to their S1 home. Perfect.
- Again, Smokey offered a potential recruit exactly what he wanted most. Or what Smokey thought Ben wanted most, what he wanted for so many years --- ownership of the island.
- Characters from all five seasons are now present on the beach. S1: Jack, Hurley, Sun. S2: Ben. S3: Richard. S4: Miles, Frank. S5: Ilana. And Widmore (S2), being a badass.
- Richard telling Hurley not to trust what Jacob says. That's cold. Richard is fucking pissed.

I know the title and centricity, and I hope it can continue the awesome run.
These awesome episodes are exactly what I was hoping for in season 6.

man, jamessinclair would probably have a heart attack if someone spoiled the preview for next week without tags. that shit revealed so much.

I must be against the norm. I wasn't a big fan of this episode. I still thought it was great though. The ending when Hurley, Richard, and Jack turned that same corner they always come by I smiled. That was definitely my favorite part tonight.

I'm never going to see an episode of Lost without knowing the title first either. Somehow I always see it ahead of time. :lol

THIS. FUCKING THIS!

Love that the writers not ashamed to show there Otac-Cards. :lol :lol :lol

God this episode was great.

Just a thought.

I'm most likely wrong because LA X also had all the Dharma houses at the bottom of the ocean as well as the pylons.

like i said, there was NO WAY they were going to spoil that.

Didn't they used to spoil deaths?

I remember like, "The Cost of Living" for instance, a lot of fans went into the episode pretty much expecting Eko to die, and he did. I think there were other examples but I can't think of anything specifically.

What was even more annoying in the earlier seasons was when the actors/actresses would schedule every fucking talk show the week of their death, you practically had to avoid all media not to get any clues.

Next week's episode is gonna kick ass (we're gonna see what Sawyer's been up to!), and the one after that too!

I don't know any titles/characters after that.

Why couldn't Michael kill himself? Did Jacob find him and touch him, too? Wasn't the Christian Shepard that kept appearing to Michael essentially the smoke monster at that point?

...seems like smokey can grant these powers, too, I guess?

Sun did the what now?

It's an idiotic opinion that makes no sense

says the man who said Jeff Bridges didn't deserve his Oscar because he played a country singer.

Anyway, great episode.

I pretty much forgot about Widmore! You know he's gonna fuck shit up. If he really is on MIB's side then.......well - I don't see how anyone could possibly win against that. Widmore's probably got an entire army on the way.

This was definitely my favorite episode of the new season, even beating the Locke-centric one.

I know there are a lot of BSG haters here but I thought it was great to see the similarity between Baltar and Ben here. With both also redeeming themselves towards the end of their respective series.

I think with time I could like this episode even more than The Constant :D It was just so great to see Ben brought back into the light.

I understood it as:

1) Principal Douchebag wrote a recommendation for Alex, waiting to be sent
2) Ben blackmails Principal Douchechill
3) Douchesplash: "If you expose me, Alex will end up turning tricks to support her parent's medical bills"

Season 4 Ben would have blackmailed him anyway to protect the school and consolidate his power. Redeemed Ben did the "right thing."
