LOST 06.11: "Happily Ever After" (Saying "Brotha" Gonna Work It Out Edition)

I am replying as I am reading the thread so this has probably been talked about. Why are you guys saying Desmond wants X to be reality. It seems to be the opposite, the X people want to be in the LOST dimension. Sure every ones life is nice and all in the X dimension but all the characters are missing something, someone to love.

Desmond didn't have Penny. Charlie didn't have Claire. Jack doesn't have Kate. Sawyer doesn't have Juliet. Sayid doesn't have Nadia. Locke is the only one to have his love, but he can't walk.

It seems like where the show is going is that even though horrible things happen to these people in the normal dimension, its better to have gone through them and find someone you love, even if it means death.

Desmond and Faraday working shit out together was awesome. All they needed was Mr. Ecko for the trinity of bad ass to be together at last.

I loved the episode. I loved that we are finally starting to see what the parallel world is about... and I love the fact that desmond seems to have figured everything out in both worlds.

Also.. if you kill or harm desmond or his relationship with penny in any way shape or form I will KILL everyone involved in the making of this show.

I still don't totally know where to start with what happened in this awesome episode, but I was just thinking: was Island Desmond eager to help Widmore because he transferred to Desmond X and vice versa? This way, Island Desmond would be with Penny and Desmond X would help Widmore (like in the X timeline) with his plan.

I kind of doubt this (and don't like it), and Lindelcuse would probably have them share memories/consciousness.

Pretty sure contact with Penny turned Desmond into Jesus Buddha. Half Jesus, Half Buddha, all man.

I was disappointed. I expected an earth shattering, show altering episode that would change everything and I got an hour long flashsideways, I don't like flashsideways that much. Compared to the Constant it was so boring. All the cameos and tie ins into Constant and other Desmond moments was nice but again it being in a flashsideways means little since I still have no connection with those characters.

It is great that we finally start to see the worlds blurring together. The payoff better be incredible cause they have spent so much time on this alternate reality. How is Eloise always detached from time, she is like a gatekeeper, they never explained this power have they?

The good is that Desmond is an interesting character no matter what. Any scene with Desmond and Penny is gold. Charlie stuff was ok. It was good, better than the bottom episodes of the season but I wouldn't put it at the top.

I agree with your whole post. Desmond is always great -- and Desmond and Penneh are even better. But bits of the flashsideways -- the Charlie pub conversation and the talk with Daniel -- just seemed too shoehorned in and plot-convenience-playhousey for me. The dialogue in the pub scene, in particular, didn't work for me.

I didn't dislike the episode, but certain moments kept me from totally being immersed. (And I still wish they'd just say what the flashsideways are, so I'd know why/if I'm supposed to care about the characters in them.)

Wtf, then desmond has two reflection scenes cuz when hes walking in to pick charlie up he sees his reflection in the glass door after taking off his glasses.

Could Desmond be the new MIB? His sacrifice will be him staying on the island forever, for the sake of Penny and little Chahlie. We already know the ending will be bittersweet.

I like this, it would certainly be interesting. Candidates for Jacob, candidates for MIB so to speak. It's clear these arent really "people," but shells, or forces, contained within people. Maybe thats why MIB himself never seemed so evil, the PERSON that he is just got trapped and after all this years literally would do anything to leave.

Be real interesting to see the same cycle repeat and Desmond take over this position. Share the island with Jack. They are friends, just like Jacob and MIB originally appeared to be. Time just erases the desire for peace. Ka is a wheel after all :lol

What major or at least somewhat important male characters haven't been really seen in the alternate timeline ? If that timeline is in fact MIB's "home", that could be a clue as to his identity.

It's almost certainly not Eko, and he's probably not returning anyway. I think Eko's the only major character who's died who's never shown up again in any capacity, so that actor was probably just done.

WALT

Could be Michael.

I also get the idea that Ecko's actor is done. They mentioned that Hurley could see him once but he was invisible.

Just got back from my friends and read the thread. Great episode. I think I'd call it about the same as Solo, where this episode wasn't as good as The Constant, Live Together Die Alone, or Flashes Before Your Eyes, but it was still great.

-Awesome music, especially the takes on the Penny/Des theme.
-Love that the theme was unstoppable love. That's always been Desmonds theme, and I liked it staying that way. It makes all of his episodes excellent.
-HIC knocked it out of the park. He was brilliant.
-I wasn't annoyed with Daniel at all! I really liked him here. Maybe it's just when he's not withholding answers and being purposefully vague that he can be awesome. :P It's never been Davies fault, just the character and the way he was written.
-Charlie was awesome in this episode. Just awesome. His monologue on love was great.
-I was the only person I was with that realized who Minkowski was, but I did just watch The Constant so it wasn't exactly fair. I totally thought George was going to shoot Des at the end.
-For some reason I noticed the camera work more than I ever do in Lost. I really liked the (I'll probably screw my film vocab here) tracking/dollying shot of Claire and Des.
-Whenever Sawyer and Jack have their view into the Prime universe, they're going to see whether each is meant for Juliet or Kate. Guess that's how they'll resolve the quadrangle. Although it's almost certainly going to be Juliet-Sawyer and Kate-Jack.
-My disappointment with the episode comes in how much Darlton hyped it up as a game-changer. It changed some, but not all. We still don't know exactly what the sideways are. We don't know what Desmond plans to do exactly. Is he trying to get everyone over to the X timeline, or to the Prime timeline?
-Sayid was badass at the end, but what happened at the end on the island? Des is like "okay charles, I'll help you." Then Sayid rips up Widmores' guys, and Des says "oh yeah Sayid good brotha, I'll help you." Is he just cruising? Is the REAL Desmond consciousness in X world?

Season ranking:
Ab Aeterno>Dr. Linus>Happily Ever After>Sundown>The Substitute>Lighthouse>LA X>The Package>Recon>What Kate Does

I think I'll watch again tonight, just because. :D
And 180 or anybody, are you planning on doing any avatars? I think I'm going to make one myself, though...eh I don't know

The actor said before the season that he'd like to come back, but I think the producers hold a bit of a grudge. You're only welcome back if they fired you :)

Can't wait til Desmond X meets Jack X again. Jack X was totally "WTF" in the Hospital due to all the "coincidences"

Don't mean to interrupt people's Lost praising (I mean seriously, it was an amazing episode), but I have a request.

Did anybody record the commercials in the ABC airing? Specifically the iPhone 3GS one???

My site was featured in the ad and I'd love to have a copy online to show friends/family!

I probably have it, but I have no idea how to get it off my PVR. If you know how to do that, it's yours.

That guy looks about 50 now. He can't hang.

I thought Desmond was gonna turn into Smokey part deux during his electromagnetic dance.
I thought he was going to turn invisible, a la 'help me' cabin-jacob. Mostly because i was convinced it was the same chair. I was ready for a scene with desmond sitting in a cabin all confused with ben and locke talking to him and him all freaking out being like "heeeeelp meeee" and then flashing back.

Yeah, it'll be awesome.

I still wonder how Jack X got those cuts and all.

I know they're gonna mindfuck us in a similar fashion in one of these eps.

Can't wait for that and island Jack and island Desmond.

Sayid better not hurt a hair on his head.

Locke and Desmond episodes seem to be the best on LOST whereas Kate episodes are the worst.

That reminded me of the moment Jack found Locke in the hospital room in the Jeremy Bentham episode. Jack was shocked that Locke wasn't just off the island but taken to Jack's hospital.

Happily Ever After>all previous episodes

OMG. Damn amazing.

I'm giddy as hell.
Someone in the last thread mentioned that x timeline was all going to converge in the hospital with jack as the man to fix everything... im starting to believe it myself.

I doubt they've forgotten a scene that's that close to this one. As long as they brush it away with something, I'm fine.

Slightly OT, would someone from LostGAF be willing to make sure this avatar is done correctly? I'm almost positive it is.

Jack will save the day. Destiny, man.

How much Desmond an episode has seems to have a large effect on how good it is.

Seems he'll be featuring quite heavily in the alternate universe from this point forth.

I love how Eloise Hawking is omniscient in both timelines. She brings the badass. Step aside, Sayid.

She needs to play a villain in some sci-fi movie or show. She is quite awesome.

Love this episode so much... the best this season easily... new rankings (for me):

Happily Ever After > Ab Aeterno > LA X > The Substitute > Sundown > Lighthouse > Recon > Dr. Linus > The Package.

I predict:

Finale > Episode 15 > Episode 16 > Episode 14 > Happily Ever After > Ab Aeterno > Episode 13 > LA X > The Substitute > Sundown > Everybody Loves Hugo > Lighthouse > Recon > Dr. Linus > The Package.

That was one of the best episodes of LOST I have ever seen. Really put a smile on my face and got me thinking about what is going on. When I saw the scene underwater a chill went down my spine. Great stuff!

Such a compelling episode from start to finish. I was hanging on every word.

I can now safely say that Desmond has had the best record, in terms of episode-centricity.

Faraday=The Musician who programs "Good Vibrations" into the Looking Glass' jamming tech. Thanks to Desmond saving his life, Charlie is the one who plays the notes to disable the jammer which is exactly what allows Faraday to come to the Island in the first place and eventually program "Good Vibrations" in the 70s. (Good ole fashioned LOST time loop).

On a broader level you could even say that Charlie brings Faraday to the Island and Faraday plans "The Incident" which not only crashes 815(Bringing Charlie and everyone else to the Island) but creates the X-Timeline.

If you like the actress (I know some badmouth her in this part, but I've always liked her work on the show) then check out the Nicole Kidman movie "The Others" (ironic isn't it?), she's really good in that and it's a good movie, too.

Anything attached to Desmond automatically gets a bump in awesomeness.

The sideways just got a major beef-fueled injection. Desmond can do no wrong.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that was a Jacob's Cabin chair at the start.

I thought Desmond was going to be zapping all over the place, and it would have been his eye in the Cabin...

Is Desmond the Jack of the flash-sideways? ^_^
