I'll always come back to "John Locke is dead". If the whole point of the sideways is just to magically send the mind of John X to the island, I can't be anything but disappointed. But you know, I'm aware how tired me talking about it probably is :)

It's fine. That's your opinion. There's not a damn thing wrong with it. However, I would argue that if our speculation indeed comes to pass, that the writers did a fine job in the execution of the logic as it pertains to the context of the story. If Desmond is able to get Hurley's island memories over to the "other" Hurley, then why can't it work the other way? This is the secret to destroying the smoke monster, at least with how I've worked it out. I'm not really basing this on speculation, aside from my theory that transferring Locke X to the Man in Black is what's going to destroy it, but we've seen hard facts that Desmond can indeed "unite" the two versions of each character.

If you still want to think it's stupid or unreasonable, by all means go for it. But the story has totally set it up.

John Locke fans just can't seem to let go. MIB tried to help them let go by clarifying that Locke was a sucker. It didn't work. Desmond tried to help them by running Locke X over, showing what a loser he was. It didn't work. Jack will try too by fucking up Locke's surgery on purpose and then telling him "I'm sorry John, you weren't the right candidate after all, you'll never walk again and you just have to accept that". But that won't work either. Locke will have to put an end to the misery of his fans himself, by making Locke X suicide in the finale after the failed operation. It's really sad.

The sources ratings and the cast and crew have been incredibly livid about the finale. Michael Emerson said that it was different than he thought it would be but that it gets better and better for him each passing day.

I certainly think the finale will be amazing in its own way. If you're watching for mind-bending secrets and other-worldly, brilliant, deep explanations for everything you might walk away disappointed. If you love the character arcs and the emotion and desire a resolution as well as getting a few healthy morsels of information/answers you're likely to shit the pants.

That's makes me hopeful that it ends well, hopefully it will be an entertaining finale. I also know we won't get an answer to everything and i'm fine with that, the characters has always been what this show it's about.

Tough i wouldn't mind finding out what exactly happened to MIB when he went into that cave, that is the one thing it stuck with me in the last few episodes

TGD will be the first person in the history of TV viewing to claim that a show jumped the shark in it's season finale.

Kneel at you BOSS Altars, bitches. The Prophecy will be fulfilled tomorrow. Fitting it's on a Sunday. A Holy Day for a Holy Event.

Hurley X is remembering the memories of Hurley. His consciousness has not travelled to Hurley's mind. Neither has it gone the other way. It's not like The Constant or Happily Ever After, as we know Desmond is the exception to the rules and the one guy for whom that sort of thing is expected. Nothing about Hurley X's experience indicates that CONSCIOUSNESS (not memories, consciousness) can travel to another timeline. And if it COULD, Locke is dead! His body is in the ground! Smokey may take one some acquired personality traits, but that is a hell of a jump to make to "John Locke is residing somewhere in the Smoke Monster's mind", even for a show like Lost.

If they manage to pull it off (assuming they go in that direction) than I'm not going to hate it just for the sake of it, but I can't imagine a scenario in which it won't bother me.

I hope so too. That's one of the bigger things I would like to know about.

I'm not sure that I'm saying that John Locke is alive in the smoke monster's mind. I just think that the smoke monster connected himself to Locke in such a way that if Desmond somehow gets Locke X's persona over to MIB, it will destroy MIB. Haven't seen the finale, have no idea if this will happen or if they will do it in such a way that it makes any sense. But to me, showing us that Hurley is "full Hurley" makes me think that Desmond knows how to connect the two existing characters together. And again, Island Locke is dead, but MIB took over his persona nonetheless; it's why he got Locke's body to come back to the island in the first place because to him, using John Locke would be the easiest way to get what he wants. Ben kills Locke. Ben thinks Locke is now alive. This is mindblowing to him, and Ben is terrified of him. MIB thus knows that if he tells Ben to kill Jacob, Ben is going to kill Jacob. You know this, I'm just putting it into perspective: island Locke is dead, but thanks to MIB possessing as much of Locke's persona as he could when the body came back to the island, I'm thinking he has-- and this is going to sound amusing-- he has "enough John Locke in him" that when Desmond yanks Locke X's consciousness into MIB, you pretty much have John Locke reborn, and the smoke monster destroyed.

It is this that will be his undoing. He's using Locke just as numerous people have in the past and most of them received due punishment for this, like Cooper.

This must be what it's like to have religious family members :p

We'll see. I would find it a very unsatisfying conclusion to the show, personally.

My family is hardcore religious. I personally haven't found it in me myself though I'm open to the possibility I suppose. So I know all about having religious family members. :lol

Besides, I'm not working out of faith here. Yes, I've been wanting Locke to return and save the day in a way, but this season has undoubtedly given me backup in this.

:lol but also smh, i was chatting with a couple people who stopped watching LOST after the second season and while I was chatting with them about the series finale, they said "so they are finally getting off the island huh, took them 6 seasons" :lol
one more day :D

if Penny gets killed then :( kudvkydjj

Keep the faith. Tommorow night after Locke has become the new Jack and Solo has replaced duckroll as mod as agreed, Locke-GAF will rule this place. Those who believed will reap the benefits. Heretics on the other hand will all be given avatars simply of the letters "JL" and a tag to go along with it. They shall be marked, Scarlett Letter style.

i think if we judge characters based on the quality of their episodes, then desmond's pretty much flawless.

Jughead is far from flawless.

Ben is the ONLY cast member batting 1.000. Locke is second at .900.

The day of reckoning is a mere 33.5 hours away, comrades!

is this a sports thing?

Baseball batting average.

Ben has hits on The Man Behind The Curtain, The Shape Of Things To Come, Dead Is Dead, and Dr. Linus. He is batting 4/4, or, 1.000.

Locke has hits on Walkabout, Deus Ex Machina, Orientation, Lockdown, The Man From Tallahassee, The Brig, Cabin Fever, The Life And Death Of Jeremy Bentham, and The Subsitute. He has a strikeout with Further Insructions. He is batting 9/10, or, .900.

Desmond is batting in my eyes 5/6, or .833.

He's more of a hero than John Locke has ever been. He killed the evil asshole Jacob.
And the gullible asshat John.

I know I said I'd bail out of this thread, but damn I'm weak :( The finale is SO close!

I know, just messing around :P

And I agree that Locke and Ben are .900 and 1.000, respectively. But I think Des is 1.000.

This thread is now #2 for the season, # of posts-wise. And its the shortest thread of the season, time-wise :lol If this thread had til Tuesday, it would surpass Across the Sea.

Darlton said Expose was a mistake and apologized for it in the NY Times public Q&A a few pages back. :lol

No they didn't. They talked about it, but they didn't apologize for it. They actually sound like they still like the episode quite a bit too, as they should, because it's awesome. :P

Never watched it again. But they have been dragging it on, from the things I've heard it seems like they just make it up as they go along. Last thing I read a couple of days ago...Locke was made of smoke....?

hahahaha :lol

I cant wait for post finale :D

So Im listening to some Giachinno score, as I often do, and I must say again that if Giacc ends the show with an existing cue as opposed to a new one, then I think he has to go with Parting Words. Not only is it one of the most beautiful tracks ever, but its the most uplifitng cue in the entire series, and I truly hope the show's final scene is an uplifting one.

Does you guys want some sadness and depression in the finale? Or just a bunch of awesome, and uplifting emotions?

I want the latter, I think. The show as a whole has could be pretty grim for it's characters.

I want to be uplifted, and have the show end on a hopeful note. They've been through hell for 6 seasons. Now its time for everyone to be at peace.

A cheesy suggestion but I make it anyway..How about putting the finale thread up at 8:15 tonight?
An awesome idea in theory, but 8:15 in what time zone? US Eastern?

I agree Solo, the final scene should be uplifting but bittersweet.
I want it to be happy overall, but I've accepted that people will die. There will be depression. But we can hope that there's some sort of loophole where they can all have some sort of happy ending.

Yeah, that's how I'm feeling.

The show's been depressing even recently, with The Candidate and all.

Lets have the good guys win, for once.

Thats why I mentioned Parting Words. Id love to see the show go out on a scene as hopeful as the raft launching was.
