Lost Odyssey hype thread 2 (new info, staff summary, ultimate pre-official thread)

those funky glasses the main character is wearing, its rather....funky.
Items are visible on your character, so you won't have to see the glasses if you really don't want too ;)

Gamespot uses the rtmp protocol, so it makes the stream ripping a tad more difficult (though not so much) than usual. I'm not touching this anyway since it's watermarked.

that's a nice perk. wide variety of costumes and such?

Only accessories, weapons and amulets can be worn, so I think those are the only things that will effect the look of your character.

I'm happy simply with different looking weapons.

Amazed some of you guys think Japanese games should be held to different standards than games from other areas of the world. Bzzt, wrong answer, try again.
Not games, but jRPGs. Would you give Chrono Trigger an 8 if its framerate sputtered a few times? Keep in mind that by doing so, you'd be saying that it's basically as good as Legend of Legaia or Kingdom Hearts II.

Amazed that some of you guys think this game has bad graphics.

Further amazed that some of you guys think Eternal Sonata was a good game. Ehhhh, to quote a phrase..."bzzt, wrong answer, try again."

.....not trying to be a dick, but you're seriously riding the jock of this one way too hard. Sorry you think it looks so disappointing, but you're going to have a hard time convincing people that it's as bad as you say it is after we've all seen that trailer and compared it to your comments about how crap the visuals are, right?

LO may not be the second coming, but as Nelsonroyale pointed out, it's pretty much all fans of big budget, FF-esque, high production RPGs have to look forward to at the moment. If the only sacrifice we have to make is that the animations hitch up on framerate some of the time, I think that most can certainly live with that...

...beggars can't be choosers and all that. Cheer up, mate.

If Chrono Trigger ran at sub-20fps levels in all battles, and the camera moves such that it makes battles look retarded, then yes, it would not be as good a game. I don't see how anyone can argue otherwise. By using stupid numerical comparisons and saying "omg then you are saying its as good as Legend of Legaia or Kingdom Hearts II" is just retarded. Seriously.

It would still do everything else better than almost every jRPG ever made. And a couple years later, you'd get tons of threads saying "LTTP: Chrono Trigger. What were the reviewers thinking?"

Is the camera really that broken in LO though?

I don't even see where you are going with this. Are you trying to deliberately stir up shit just waiting for someone to say "CT wasn't that great"? Because last I checked, LO has nothing to do with CT, and this isn't a fucking CT thread. :P

Probably not? But that's not what you asked. :P

Dismissing technical problems just because it's a JRPG is stupid, and that's all I'm trying to prove. You can't say they SHOULDN'T matter, because they do. Any flaw in presentation affects the enjoyment of a game.

Must be late over there.

I was saying that frame-rate and camera are pretty much the least important aspects of a jRPG and shouldn't influence the score that much compared to things like the battle system, dungeon design, characters, music, story, etc.

You're the only person that goes on and on about "the score". Why?

Wow, new trailer's pretty good, could do without that English vocal song though. >_> Game looks awesome on all fronts, I just hope these apparent tech issues don't hold it back any.

In a lot of respects it's FFVIII in HD.
Sakaguchi is taking his FF vision and trying to make it "real" like FFVIII, with more realistic looking characters. I don't think there's anything wrong with the character models, but the animation is clearly not great, and there are issues with camera and potentially issues with frame rate. None of these things are what make an RPG for me though. An RPG is playable if it has good characters, system and story, and this looks like it has potential in all three departments.
This is the best news I've ever heard in since 1999.

Since I've been playing mostly PS2 RPGs lately I won't mind if Lost Odyssey doesn't look next-gen. But it will be frustrating going from smooth-flowing games like Valkyrie Profile 2 and Persona 3 to a game on vastly more powerful hardware that's hiccupy and glitchy.

eh, that trailer was pretty cool...and I thought it looks good graphically, sure the animation isnt impressive, but everything looks clean, detailed and nicely designed...first disappointing music Ive heard in the game...

Seems like every Mistwalker game has to have a godawful track in it among the amazing ones.

Where's the bad track in Blue Dragon? I'm near the end of the game and it's all been pretty much perfect.

Also heard Lost Odyssey got 9/8/8/8 at Famitsu Xbox360.

Awesome!

Edit: Wait, it's not awesome? Meh, I can never tell with reviews anymore, and this is a Famitsu magazine.

The story that was translated at Kotaku is actually one of the lesser passages, so don't judge the whole book based off it.

I've read seven of the stories so far and can't put the book down -- although I'm pacing myself at one a day. Fantastic stuff so far.

The author seems to have really put some thought into the story's main theme of life for 1000 years.
