To celebrate the launch of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition for the Xbox 360, Capcom has organized a big launch event in San Francisco on Thursday, Jan. 11. The event runs from 8 PM til midnight and is open to anyone 18 and up.

You’ll have a chance to meet the Lost Planet development team and watch (or take part in!) an epic Lost Planet multiplayer tournament, with winners scoring cool prizes and the chance to play against the Lost planet developers. Master LEGO Builder Nathan Sawaya will be there creating LEGO masterpieces on the fly, and there will also be a t-shirt press where players can design their own lost Planet shirt, choosing from several pieces of game art and logos. Dozens of 360s set up throughout the event will allow partygoers to try the single player game or to compete against each other in multiplayer matches on the full retail version before the game is released to the public!

You can register for the event through the Lost Planet Community site at http://www.lostplanetcommunity.com or directly through the Neo Venus site (login: Genesis password: 111).

The first 50 gamers through the door get exclusive t-shirts

I'm still waiting for you to post gamespot review, with that crying dog and UH-OH! lol.

That damn VIP area is what got me into trouble in the first place. They accused me of barging in.

What the hell did you have to do to get in anyway?

I was forced in the VIP area. My girlfriend and I were drinking some Blackberry fizzy drink from glasses outside the area, leaning on the rails looking at the smoke. The security guy comes up and says "You can't drink those out here! Get in the room!" and I said, "You want us to go back in the VIP area?" he nodded and off we went. After a few minutes, he realized his mistake and went looking for us. He caught my girlfriend right away, but I stayed inside for a few minutes.

Apparantly, Very Important People are just like Important People, except they like to drink alcohol (which wasn't on the regular showfloor) and didn't like to play games (only a few TVs up there). I left when I realized how lame the VIP room was. I'll never strive for bigger things now.

Had a great time. Just missed getting into the top 16, but oh well. I bought Lost Planet, even though I don't own a 360. Well played, Capcom.

All of this for a new title, I suppose it helps build a fanbase. Still, I wish Capcom would give a series like Biohazard some love. We have a fanbase and recieve nothing like this. I guess that was the joy of being a GCN exclsuive. :P

Got it, picked up my copy after lecture (about games) and have only been online so far, great fun and im level 16 so far after about an hour and a half.

I'm saving the offline for a rainy day, for now online is plenty worth its money.

Talking of Inafune, there is a new 15-min video interview with him on my site in which he talks about some interesting points about lost planet and new-gen consoles, support for 360 over PS3 and other stuff. However, I am not allowed to link. I am moderately surprised that GAF has not picked it up yet as it's been up nearly 24 hours. Deserves its own thread if you ask me! But I would say that.

Shucks... is there a transcript? I can't really watch a 15-minute video at work. :\

There is a summary news article attached to the main video feature page, although there are still a couple of todbits in video only. I would say it is worth the watch.

GAF is totally mainstream, dude. They have the power to influence other mainstream sites like IGN.

As well as the power to cancel games like Framecity Killer.

Just saw the interview. Great job.

Alright guys, I was also at the party last night. I took many pics with my crappy cell phone camera which I will now post.

Yes, it may be hard to see but there were computer parts in this ice cube, with cords sticking out of some of the other cubes. One had a half of a keyboard sticking out.

This is where the tournament was played, and 1 person on every 16 player tournament would get stuck with the TV that was hooked to the projector, which meant that your screen was fuzzy and ****ed up. I personally played on the right projector screen.

2u7rlt3.jpg

A climbing mountain... for people to climb. (Sorry about size, my camera settings must have been set to low at the time)

Ice engraving of the worm thing from the game. Pretty sweet. Later some dumbasses poked finger-sized holes in it.

33zebub.jpg

My winnings! That's right, I won ---- place in the tournament and got what you see here (well, everyone got the shirt if they waited in line). I might have done better, but for the final round I ended up playing on the projector screen and couldn't see SHIT. Only prizes that were better were 2nd and 3rd, which got a LP jacket additionally, and 1st place which got a $250 best buy gift card. Funny thing is, I had said earlier in the official LP thread that I figured I should get the game for coming to the party, since I couldn't buy it for months otherwise...

I had practiced in the afternoon before the party on the multiplayer demo, and that's what made the difference. I wouldn't say that any of the winners were that great at the game though, except maybe the 1st place guy. The fight against the dev team started pretty badly for us, but we eventually won. I placed like 12th in that, so I didn't do much. I somehow wonder if the dev team threw the fight... After we got off stage, Capcom US went against the devs, and got whomped on a few times.

Like someone above, I was also looking for Luke, but no dice. I talked about Itagaki with Milkman, shook the hand of a guy from gamevideos, asked if the lego guy ever tried Construx (it builds much bigger), and tried unsuccessfully to not sound creepy saying hi to Shane. I thought I saw Shoe there, but that sad fact is that most of them were hiding in the VIP area, where I couldn't get it.

This was the first San Francisco video game party I've ever been to. I hope Wario stays on the ball and posts others as they come up.

Edit: just realized that the blog linked earlier in the page has better pictures and says pretty much what I did. But they didn't have a picture of the worm! So there. Also, I'm totally going to post a picture of myself on the internet...

[psyche!]

Hells yeah n stuff.

It's been quite a while since an industry event sort of evoked the feeling of the really really huge parties from circa 2000. The Lost Planet party was the shit. Milky kicked so much ass on the decks that he actually rekindled my love of EDM such that I've been bumping to 4/4 beats all day long. Having the dev team there, doing a tourney and the absolutely killer ice sculptures -- not to mention the venue, which was perfect for a setup that grandiose -- all made for one of the best parties I've been to in years.

By far, though, the best part was that non-industry folks got to go. The public rarely gets a glimpse of the kind of money that's thrown around for the generally apathetic journo audience, and it warmed the cockles of my semi-jaded heart (with ice!) that the people actually paying money to buy the games were the ones that got treated to a kick ass show. The food was great (the catered grub from Askew, which handled all the non-pizza eats -- the pies were all Wolfgang Puck-supplied -- seriously kicked ass) and I saw that they were serving up drinkies for everyone too.

Hell, the only thing the VIP section had was a handful of kiosks with the game and actual booze that I let slip down my gullet two or three dozen times. That there were guys down in "the pit" that were gaming their little hearts out meant that Capcom had invited people that actually, y'know, cared about the game. I ended up spending just as much time down with the guys geeking out as I did sucking down drinks in the VIP section just because it was cool to see people really digging the game for a change.

All the VIP folk seemed to echo the feeling that this was the first party since the dot-com days where it felt like the industry was "back" and I'm so infinitely grateful to Capcom for letting the consumers be a part of that. To any of you guys that came to the event and were geeking out and noshing on tasty eats, thanks for making it out. You totally made the night for me.

Well, that and careening semi-lost through the San Francisco night with Seanbaby and friends after the event while a trio of us looked up at the stars and the SF architecture from the bottom of a truck bed, smoking but not daring to sit up lest some cop saw us all back there and pulled the dude driving over.

One of the best nights I've had in years.

should you really have put that huge Frontier Project spoiler at the beginning of the vid?

anyway, Milky blogged about DJing at the launch party:

Damnit, I didn't think to get more than the signatures already on the box when it was given to me :(

Sort of fun to see people I know and talked with at the party (besides press celebs) leaving comments for Milky. As if there's a San Francisco gaming community of sorts... Not that I consider myself a part of it, since this may be the only industry event I ever go to.

Mods emailed me and said no plugging site. Since I love GAF I thought sure, and assumed this means no posting links, even where relevant. Having said that, woohoo.

We just used material from the various official trailers and clips. Specifically at the start, TGS trailer bits. So we can hardly be accused of spoiling. Surely?

Glad we bothered though :(

I had a good time at the event. I got stuck in traffic and got there at 7:55, got in line and headed in. I brought some Omiyage for Inafune and chatted with some random cute Capcom employee when Inafune sat down directly behind us, so she interpreted for me. Dead Rising came out on my birthday (8/9) at stores, and so I brought it to get it signed. He said "Well, since you brought me Omiyage, yes I'll sign it!" The girl next to me mentioned someone asked him to sign some Rockman artbook but he refused so I was lucky, mainly because I brought him something I know he'd like.

Got the shirt, picked up the game & shirt (same design on both the one I chose before and the one that came with my copy of the game, heh) and got that signed. Hung around for a bit and then headed off to the Crazy Horse on Market to see Mykel's midnight feature on stage and get a Private Show with Nikki. Mmm... too bad she's only here like once a month. Got home around 1:30 and up at 7:30 for work the next day. All in all a great night.

I wished I noticed Milky spinning. It would've been nice to talk to him again (if he'd ever still talk to me, who knows! It's been forever!). I've lost 27 pounds since April, so the shirt they handed with the game fits just right, while the American Apparel one they gave out for free is a bit too snug right now. Same size (XL). Ah well. :)
