LTTP: Crackdown

It's addicting... very addicting. The orbs, the orbs!!

The gameplay's actually pretty solid, I like that you get rewarded for the way you take down enemies and not just for taking them down. Like, if you take someone down with a rifle from a high altitude you'll get points towards your shooting ability as well as your agility, which is pretty nice. Climbing buildings is especially fun, i found myself almost never getting into a car outside of maybe the first hour of gameplay. Collecting new weapons is pretty nice too, you basically get them from fallen enemies but then you have to take them back to a supply point to actually add them to your inventory. It's a nice step up from just having weapons appear or something like that. You only have access to two guns and one grenade type at a time, but since you can swap any weapon you have for any weapon you find from dead enemies it's alright.

So what didn't I like?

Some of the buildings where the crime bosses hung out were pretty lame and similar to one another, especially the Shai-Gen. It's just spiral staircase after spiral staircase, or mindless searching for an underground entrance.

All of the Agents are basically cookie-cutter. They all animate the exact same way, they have no personality what so ever. I don't see the point of offering as many Agents as they do when they're the same even in physical appearance (outside of facial features). It would have been nice if they did an RPG-ish thing where some Agents would start off better with certain abilities than others.

Not next-gen enough. A game like this is just begging for destructible environments, imho. I can blast a car 50 feet into the air but I can't make a dent in any building? Some objects I can destroy or move around (like the Observatory globe) but others are stuck to the ground? It feels like lost potential, especially with the Keys to the City mode.

The plot sucked and the "surprise" ending was lame. So basically
the guy who's been telling you get rid of the crime bosses was actually funding all of them and controlling everything. But apparently to get control of the people he had to make you get rid of all of the crime? If he was running everything behind the scenes as it was, didn't he already have control to begin with?
Ugh, so stupid.

Anyways, very fun game for the most part. Gets a solid 7.5/10 from me.

I appreciated the lack of plot. If they add a silly, over the top one to the next game I'd like it half as much. Unless it's easily skipable.

Great game. ;)
The problem is that the "party" for this game was more like a Halo 3 Multiplayer Party a few months ago.. :p ..not an actual Crackdown party, so in any case..you're "early to the party".. :p

The plot is worthless, i gave up trying to decipher it.

Good game though. Co-op is the where the real fun is at.

Seems pretty simple to me, it's old school "kill the bad guys to save the city!" with a twist thrown in
at the end

Game isn't about story so I never faulted it for that myself

my biggest complaint was the not enough diversity. it just needed more of everything. more weapons, more difficult crime bosses and locations. should`ve been traps and all sorts of stuff so it wasn`t the typical run in and gun everything down in 3 minutes kinda thing. if you had a rocketlauncher the thing was cake. what about some boss car chases, where you`d have to take down their car?

The fact that the buildings aren't destructible hurt it a bit, I agree. But the style is so awesome, and the world really felt seamless, and thanks to the increasing agility, very open.

Someone mentioned in a different thread that you never really feel matched, meaning the enemies have the same strengths and abilities throughout, and that's true. Compared to something like Hulk (which obviously served as inspiration for this game) that throws progressive bigger, more difficult and generally meaner enemies at you as your own abilities become greater, it definitely feels like it's lacking.

Crackdown is the Forza 2 of sandbox games.

Boring and only for hardcore fans of the genre? I haven't played Forza Motorsport 2, but I hated the first FM and the sequel sounds like more of the same based on reviews i've read.

I really want Crackdown and it will be one of the first Xbox 360 games I get.

Crackdown is probably my most played non-Guitar Hero 360 game. I really enjoyed it. Don't have any major issues or requests in a sequel other than to make it, and make it good.

It's as dry as the sahara, defidentely not for everybody

OMG, I forgot about the glass! Nothing gets through glass! Not a bullet, not a grenade, not a rocket. It's so annoying seeing a crime boss right underneath you in a glass dome or something and you can't shoot through it.

Well, both games have a solid, solid core. Technically, both games are awesome. Forza 2's physics are second to none. Crackdown's seamless environment and superhero abilities give it a flavour like no other game.

However, there ain't much else beyond the main gameplay mechanics. Forza 2's single player campaign (if you want to call it a campaign) involves you racing around the same 5 tracks about 120 times. Same with crackdown: it's awesome at first but the game is the epitome of repetition.

I enjoyed (and continue to enjoy) both games, but in hindsight (after many, many hours of play) it's obvious each game is unfinished. I hope their sequels deliver the full experience.

As someone who took the time to get all 1250 achievement points in this game, let me share this advice:
Don't waste your time getting all 1250 achievement points in this game. Just play the game and have fun; don't do the tedious shit.

I also just now got around to playing this game (finished it last night). I had a lot of fun with it but near the end the repetitiveness started setting in. All the enemy AI is identical
except for the mutants who you see maybe 10 of
, is it too much to ask for enemies with jet packs or some superpowers of their own or something? Besides that, the city was everything you'd want from a free roaming game, the powers were fun, and the targeting system was miles beyond GTA. Definitely worth checking out.

Great game. Its 100% focused on game play and better for it.

Don't look up maps for orbs, no matter how frustrated you get. I did for my last 2 and feel I cheated myself.

Say what? I agree about Crackdown...but Forza 2 is a racing game.

The point of racing games is to race on tracks, that's it. Not to mention there are probably more modes and customization options than I've ever seen in another racer before. I haven't played GT in years, so I could be wrong on that. But you can log hours and hours just customizing your car. What more is there to do in a racing game?

My favorite game on the 360 so far (at least for a few more days). A real story would just have gotten in the way. What this game needed was tougher enemies. At the very least the bosses should have abilities similar to the supercops.
It also needed a motorcycle, and maybe a speedboat or a jetski.

I have the sick urge to delete my save and collect all the orbs all over again.
Best super cop game to date.

My favorite 360 game, I'm sad that people sold this game after the Halo 3 beta was over.

It manages to resurrect that feeling of curiosity and exploration, of running around in a virtual jungle gym. A feeling that was missing since Mario 64 and the Banjo Kazooie games. Sure you can run around in the woods and discover caves in Oblivion. But in Crackdown you climb, hop across buildings, run into parts of the game ignored by the campaign mode. The shit load of agility orbs and hidden orbs help lure you into doing this, it begins with "Oh, well I might as well grab this orb since it's right by me" and then soon enough you're spending three hours hopping across half a city, and you're looking up the tallest building wondering "now how am I going to get up there?"

Not to mention the driving, racing, and obstacle runs you can do. This may be the first and probably only 360 game that is motivating me to complete all the achievements.

(That free pack you can download for the game is a rip, sure it looks innocent at first but it's basically a "Ooooh, you can have this and do this if you purchase the $10 package!")

You're 100% right - racing is about racing. Forza 2 excels at that. The funny thing is, despite all the bells & whistles in Forza 2 (which I love, and I agree with you, has never been seen before), it's still missing something. I can't put my finger on it exactly. The game lacks energy, soul, I don't know.

As much as I love the game, I think it gets a little bit too much credit for originality. It really does feel a lot like Hulk UD.

Honestly for me it got boring after a few hours. Sure orb hunting was addicting but the actual objectives in Crackdown were boring as can be after a while. If they actually had more diverse missions it would have been better. Kinda got bored of the "go into this area kill your way to boss" rinse and repeat.

This game is 100% gameplay. No story or whatever with it, just pure action gameplay very well implemented. And gameplay is where it's at for me.
Needless to say I'm pretty hyped for APB.

The game had that Metroid style of rewarding exploration and making you spend a lot of time trying to level up your character. It's whole success can be based around it constantly giving you motivation to continue forward, and doing it without an unnecessary and uninteresting storyline, but a real sense of achievement.

Forza 2 isn't that hardcore. It's pretty accessible dude. It's no GTR2 or anything.

Anyway I pretty much feel the same way as the OP about Crackdown. Finished it yesterday and had a lot of fun blowing shit up and jumping around. Though the game definitely has faults, I could see a Crackdown 2 being a phenomenal game if Real Time Worlds sets out to fix the major ones from this game and keeps the rest pretty similar.

Great game. Anyone else feel a little dizzy after scaling the tower? Man, and jumping from there gave me goose bumps. Longest drop I've ever seen in a video game.

The "climb the tower within the time limit" objectives put butterflies in my stomach everytime.

I love Crackdown. Freaking great game, and I usually don't like GTA-ish games.

GRRR.. Still need one more agility orb.

It did the first time I climbed it, but after a few more times up to the top, fully maxed out, I didn't quit have that feeling any more. Great game, had a lot of fun with it, .......digs it back out, starts to play it again :)

Exactly... and how sweet it is!! Nothing gives me the giddy joy, rush of adrenaline, "ahh I feel much better now", feelings that Crackdown does. Once your upgraded/keys to the city you can just fire this game up anytime and have a little fun. The "crack" comparisons do have meaning.

6 orbs left. 50 Hidden orbs left. Bought the DLC and that's helping.
I just finished all my Hidden orbs last weekend. Whatever the last patch did, I noticed it expanded the radius that you'll hear their locator sound them from. This really made it a lot easier!

Crackdown is my favorite 360 game (I own it, Dead Rising, and Gears of War). The GTA games never really clicked with me for some reason, but Crackdown does something that just draws me right in. I'm not very far at all (I just started on the "Russian" island), but I've already poured a ton of hours into it and have over 200 agility orbs.

I love this game. It's killer to just reset the bosses, and just blow everything away with my maxed agent. Along the way, hear the lovely sound of my last few hidden orbs (14 left!!!).

I just flow when I play like this, take out a boss, leap from roof to roof, diving in from above with the awesome air dive smash the ground move... then blow away the next dude. The multi-missile + Harpoon + my max strenght crush all. and juggle over and over. and then spike the juggled corpse 20 floors up:)

that's it, time to reset the bosses and blow throw the game again.

Single player is pretty fun but co-op is awesome!

I love being on a roof and asking my co-player to come look at something and then when he gets there I kick the explosive barrel next to us sending us flying. I love tossing bodies in the air so my partner can "staple" them to the wall with the harpoon.

There are several cars I love just jumping in and speeding through the city. The SUV is fun as hell and I actually wish I could choose to drive it at 3 star ability whenever I felt like it. The 4 star version can be a bit frustrating at times. rock climbing in that thing is fun.

using ramp trucks are awesome but can be glitchy, in a good way! We had one propped against one of the arches in Shai Gen trying to get one of the stunt markers and I drove a bus towards it but as soon as it got to the ramp the bus just shot through the air up and to the left sending me over the freeway and clearing several buildings. the only thing that stopped me was an antenna on top of one of the buildings. I got some kind of achievement for that too.

A couple things Im hoping for if they make a Crackdown 2 is 4 player co-op and a completely new city. Also maybe some way to use boats or planes. Oh and a replay or photomode.

Agree with most folk in here, it's a great game but as someone else said I feel like I've done it all before in Hulk:UD.

And I'm pretty sure they said they'd release a replay editor soon after the game was released.

Quite a few people will disagree, but after the Gettin' Busy DLC we haven't heard anything regarding the next DLC & when to expect it.
