LTTP: Dragon Age Origins-Bioware <3

I just wrapped up the story and the credits are rolling as I type this on my laptop.

What a well done game like I posted originally. I can't WAIT for DA2 and I really hope the choices from DA:O will impact the game more than say ME1 to ME2 choices. The final decision with Morrigan made me put the keyboard and mouse down to really think about it.

I also have to say after DA2 that I'd be a sucker for a DA MMORPG.

I just bought the original edition for the PS3 because it was on clearance at Target. I've never played an RPG like this before, so I don't really know what to expect. I plan on starting once I finish Uncharted 2.

Any tips for someone completely new to Bioware games/WRPGs?

I hopped to the bandwagon really late as well, as I am still on my first play-through of the game ( on the Xbox360 ). I am enjoying it a great lot, but then again I am a huge fan of Bioware's style and am probably a bit biased.

Really loved playing this game on PC. Never had the complaints with the fade that everyone else did though. If anything I found the Orzammar section to be a little too long.

a lot of really entertaining dialogue between companions, the core cast is probably my favorite thing about the game. I'm definitely anticipating DA2 but I am a little wary about the changes. We'll have to see how it shakes out.

Expect to be a bit mind blown the more and more time you put into it to see just how deep the games are in terms of choices you can make. I feel with a lot of WRPGs newer players have to sort of expect to play a bit longer before the game "clicks" with you and you start enjoying the crap out of it.

Then again for me, the fun with these games usually is at the third or fourth hour when they open up. So I guess my advice is patience at the beginning IF you feel the pacing is a tad slow, because the game is generally easing you into it and setting up its story.

Oh, and I suppose I'm not sure how well these games played out on console. When I rented it for 360 I immediately shook my head because this just didn't feel right for some reason. PC version felt second nature to me.

I don't have a gaming PC, so the PS3 is the best I can do for now. Thanks for the tips, though.

Since you are coming into these sorts of games with a fresh slate it shouldn't effect you at all, but I felt it was worth noting for my experience.

After you play a while I'm sure you'll have questions on things which I'm guessing myself and others would be happy to answer in here.

Hmm... my brain skipped that entire paragraph for some reason. I saw "I'll play for 100 hours!". I'm a moron.

I played up to the Fade on the 360 version, then got annoyed with it. I was having so much fun up until then, I picked up the Ultimate Edition on PC, but I can't bring myself to play it because I know that section is in there, even though the PC version is a hundred times better.

I'm in the same boat as you. I must have tried that part a dozen times, then said, "fuck it."

Couldn't you guys just follow a youtube or worded guide online if you want to steam roll through it?

I found the Fade part to be one my favorite parts of the game, because I was already on a long quest and then you get pulled into basically a side 2 hour quest that could've been a game all on its own. I just pretty much used the Golem for near everything since he craps on everything and you can stun with it.

Following a guide I'm sure you could get it all done in 40 minutes tops. Plus what's 40 minutes of "poopy time" compared to 80+ hours of awesome! :D

I thought the Fade was a nice touch - required a different approach to 'add skill points, spam fav skill'.

Someone did mention that the difficulty was screwed up. Yes it was - very very badly. There were some ridiculous difficulty spikes - and these are normal battles. The last part was fantastic.
