Well I finally got around to buying this game last week and when I first started playing it I really didn't like it too much. But after playing for a while and finally getting the hang of it I have enjoyed it immensely. The absurd stories are great and I love the look of the animation.

I have had a few qualms with it though.

1. Save a few songs the the track list blows. I mean they are fine songs to play the game to but I can think of plenty of better songs that would have even worked better for the game.

2. The spinner. Maybe it's just me but it doesn't really fit with the rest of the game. Maybe this is just because I suck at it and it has costed me wins several times.

3. Jumpin' Jack Flash. Don't get me wrong, it's my favorite song in the game by far and I think that there need to be more songs of its quality in the game. My problem with the song is that, to me at least, it seemed like the difficulty of the song was much higher than any song before it. Difficult songs don't bother me but it just seemed like it came out of left field. I was able to beat most songs before it with just a few play throughs but JJJ took me forever to beat and I still can't beat it consistently. Of course I might just suck too.

All that said, apart from the track list, the other two could very well just be personal problems that I had with the game. It's an excellent product and really shows off a play style that could only be done on the DS. I am excited for the eventual sequel.

1. Those other songs you're thinking of probably wouldn't work. The game is based on corny songs, for the humor aspect. Probably the least corny would be the final 2, but that's just part of the awesome.

2. The spinner was a throwback to Ouendan, and it's basically a test of skill. I had no problem with it, so you might want to find a better way to spin. I found that spiraling towards the center works best.

3. Of course it takes you too long to beat, it's the final boss. But it's not impossible, I S-ranked it on Hard Rock difficulty. It takes memorization. Other songs are almost equal in difficulty, like Canned Heat or Material Girl.
 
Material Girl I enjoy playing through you can actually tap along with the song, Canned Heat however I really can't stand it just doesn't follow any sort of beat consistently. I don't really like the spinner either, I don't like having to risk damaging the screen in order to get a good score.

I find Material Girls and Survivor more difficult than JJF.

Canned Heat is not THAT difficult. The beat is batshit insane, but it's doable.

Well there. That just validates that it was just a personal problem.


I can think of plenty of other one hit wonders that would still keep the same feeling but are just better songs. There is no justification for Sk8ter Boi to be in any game...
 
Don't Stop Me Now would be a cool song. My scenario would involve an overweight student having to compete with his bitter rival, and is working out hard to make sure he passes physical education.
 
1. Play Ouendan 1 and 2 (Especially 2), they have better songs even if they're in Japanese, if you ask me.

2. EBA's got the easiest spinners in the series. Play the first Ouendan and you'll really hate them.

3. Again, easiest songs in the series. JJF pales in comparison to the final songs of both Ouendans.
 
I liked the songs. They're better than Ouendan 2's at least, many of which made no impact on me. I still think Ouendan 1 had the best tracklisting, even if it isn't the best game.

I don't like the spinners. There's no skill in them really, I'd dump them completely from any sequel.

In terms of what an EBA song requires it works well. The song isn't that bad anyway, save for the horrible MTV-y nature of it.

Ehhhh. It's only easier than RSG because RSG was horribly off-beat in parts. I'd say SSAY is easier than JJF because the beat is much easier to follow. If you take RSG out of the equation, which I do because it's an awful level, JJF's the hardest one. Hell, the only person to get all 300s with the Divas on the song is alkaliph and she's considered to be one of the best Ouendan players in the world, if not the best.

RSG is pretty easy, IMHO, after playing the final Ouendan 2 song on Cheergirl mode. EBA's tracks are definitely the hardest in general to learn the beats. I think the song over all 3 I have the most trouble with though is Bambina. The cheer girl version of that always pwns me, even though I can clear the others without a sweat these days.
 
Sweatin' and Hard Rock are much easier than the "normal" mode ironically: the "harder" difficulties have more notes, yes, but they also go to the beat better.

JJF on normal difficulty gives you an idea of how Sweatin' and Hard Rock are like: much easier thanks to the beats making sense.

I'm still pissed that Hard Rock is just Sweatin's patterns reversed.

I got this today and have just got up to some sad song with a story about a girls dad dieing in an accident... or something.

WTF! Why did the game get so sad all of a sudden?

Yeah. JJF was on the beat. I think my problem was the ability to find the right order to hit the circles when there were like 14 on the screen. I'd just hit them in the wrong order. And it was only the second to last and last part of JJF that really got to me and it was worse because I could combo every single note before the second to last section and then I would collapse.

So they'd have an excuse to use You're The Inspiration I guess.

All the games have their sad songs. I guess it's just to be a bit interesting midway through.
 
So who here has the Lovin' Machine rank? I know I do. The only thing I still can't do is getting ALL 300's on songs. Even the ones I like the most like Canned Heat I always get 10+ 100's on

I have Lovin' Machine and I still have The Baseball dude, the Bonus stage and the last two stages to beat on Hard Rock.

I've honestly gotten bored with EBA's Hard Rock mode.

Ouendan and Ouendan 2's Cheer Girl mode equivalents add in new beats at several sections of the songs - a lot more double taps and stuff. It's not a perfect solution, but it's better than nothing.
 
I had done a few songs of Ouendan 2's Cheerleader mode when I tried out EBA. Good grief, is it hard to slowly tap those bastards. Couldn't do it. OTO2 still has the better tracklist, if only thanks to Monkey Magic (I nearly commited suicide when I found out it was by Orange Range ;_;)

As for the spinners the OP was talking about... Dunno if they're the same in EBA, but in OTO2 you have to spin them clockwise. I couldn't manage to get a spinner right until I realised I was spinning the wrong way...

Speaking as someone who really isn't familiar with any of the music in Ouendan or EBA (aside from YMCA, of course), I found the soundtracks largely equal across the board.

As for the spinners the OP was talking about... Dunno if they're the same in EBA, but in OTO2 you have to spin them clockwise. I couldn't manage to get a spinner right until I realised I was spinning the wrong way...

The trick is to spin small. Direction is irrelevant.
 
I still haven't beat the game with the
cheerleaders
yet(on the final song)..does anyone else find that they need to play a song once or twice before getting back into EBA rhythm again after being away from the game for a few weeks.
 
Ouendan 2 has the easiest spinners I think, I went back for some EBA and noticed myself underspinning quite frequently. The trick is small circles since the smaller the radius of the circle the less its circumference is. The last song is always a bitch and always the most rewarding once you beat it, you got to earn those Divas/Cheergirls.

I really hope they make a sequel to EBA.
 
1)I totally agree, some of the songs like "I Was Born to Love You" totally feel out of place.

2)I hate the spinner! Not only because it doesn't fit well, but also because my screen protector got scratches in a shape of a circle because of this shit.

3)Of course it's hard, it's the last song. It's true that this song demands much more memorization than the other songs but that's the only thing that makes it harder... And it rocks.
 
Got the game not too long ago, just started the Hard Rock difficulty. Canned Heat is actually probably my favorite song in the game. At first, yes, it may seem like they don't follow a beat, but they really do. You just have to listen to the songs more carefully, or maybe just more, to get it.
 
Ill use this thread for my LTTP aswell...

The track list to me was good..but thats propably cause im a young teen..Every mode of the game is great..yeah even the first one..cruisn and sweatin are without a doubt better though.

The best song has to be ABC though..love that.

edit:and I hate the spinner..my old DS already has that crust feeling on the touch screen..so I stopped playing EBA..I really wish the spinner wasn't included. The spinner is like spinning the anolog stick in MP1..
 
1. Tracklist is okay IMO. Don't really like the bonus songs, but that's just me.

2. You get used to spinners - just takes time to get the hang of them. Also it's not about pressing hard and moving your hand frantically. try make small complete circles.

3. JJF is awesome. It is the last boss in a way and should be treated as such.

All i can say is:
* Use headphones
* full volume
* concentrate.
* use headphones
* try an extendable stylus
* use headphones
 
- I think the song lists in all three games are fine. There's a few that I don't really enjoy listening to but they're far and few between.
- JJF is slightly harder than RSG. They both have about the same number of markers, but JJF's screen arrangement is more erratic.
- SSAY is quite a bit harder than either of them.
- Everytime somebody says Canned Heat is offsync, I die a little inside.
- Spinners are okay as a game mechanic, but I hate that they give out bonus points.
- Spinners aren't actually any harder to physically do in Ouendan 1. You just have to spin them more. All three games give you 100 points for each complete revolution, and spinners in Ouendan 1 just require a stupid number of revolutions to clear. I didn't notice this for a while, so I thought they were just harder to register in the first game.
- The scoring system in these games is retarded. Being off-beat on the last marker in a song can penalize you more than being off-beat in the first ten markers. Combo-based scoring FTL.
