LTTP: Excite Truck. Better than Motorstorm.

Totally agree. I didn't even bother trying out Excite Truck until a year after it's release because it didn't look all that great. I ended up loving it. It's amazing.

The Motorstorm dev team obviously agrees as well. They liked it enough to steal the idea about driving through water cools down your engine that will be in Motorstorm 2.

I think Excite Truck is the racing game for people who don't like racing games, like Mario Kart or Burnout. You're actually doing stuff, not just driving around in circles.
Damn, get out of my head :(

But Excite Truck is just a good game, with Nintendo quirkyness. The lack in content and the meager multiplayer really is a let down, but the gameplay is so great you kind of forgive its faults.

i really liked enjoyed Excite Truck, but i can't go back to it after playing motorstorm. After motorstorm I found excite to feel a bit cheap and the racing isn't nearly as Excite!

IMO of course ;)

Excite, it fucking rocks...and it needs a sequel.

Mp3 support helped immensely, because the default butt-rock sucks pretty badly.

i like both about equally for different reasons.

excite truck was EXCITE

motorstorm was challenging... agressive... and you felt like you were fighting the courses which i enjoyed a lot.

in my mind they're as different as mario kart and gran turismo. it's pretty annoying to always see the other come up in discussions about one, just because they both had trucks and motion control based steering.

I agree with this, but I also thought other more comparable games did Excite stuff better. Flatout, for example.

ground deformation, tree runs and ridiculous super jumps are what make excite excite for me at least. no other racing game seemed to be as focussed on keeping your car in the air for as long as possible.

flatout is a great arcade racer... but it isn't nearly as white knuckle.

San Francisco Rush. =')

But yeah, love Excite Truck. So many "holy shit" moments. Especially managing to land on a CPU car after being flung a million miles into the sky. Really hope a sequel is made. After a new F-Zero.

In the year 3000. :(

I'm sorry, could you repeat that? I was falling asleep on your realistic vehicle dynamics. Makes for a comfy pillow.
the same way I fall sleep with that overhyped (by nfans) exciteshit or whatever is called

<3<3<3 Excite Truck. The lack of good multiplayer...

Why does everyone seem to think that Excite Truck doesn't have a good multiplayer mode? My brother and I have been playing multiplayer for years. The star system makes it more interesting than just racing around in circles...all the tracks are available in multiplayer...so what's the problem?

The only thing I dislike about Excite Truck is that I cannot for the life of me master the spin controls. I just don't have the timing to do anything above a 720°. Damn my shitty hand to eye coordination!

Love the game though.

Excite++

I really liked Excitetruck, but once you've used the wheel in MKWII it's harrrrdddd to go back.

It has to be a lock to include wheel support in Excitetruck 2, right?

can't you use the wheel in excite truck already?

IMHO Motorstorm is the best off road arcade racer this gen (so far).
Not that the TC had to put that in the OP but I agree. I played it a while back and after playing MS, it did not deliver on the feel that MS captured. MS was lacking in content though, that is what I'll give Excitetruck. MS2 looks to fix everything that was wrong with the first one though. 4P split screen, 20P races, and 16 tracks (correct me if I'm wrong).

Excitetruck deserves it's own LTTP, just not like this.

This game is fantastic. A few of my friends and I have really been hooked on this game for a while. It's funny because 5 days after I bought Mario Kart Wii my friends and I still preferred Excite Truck. I really hope this game receives a sequel, preferably with more tracks and online play.

my problem was the way in which it penaized the loser even further.

you loose points for the longer it take for you to finish the course after the first person is done.

So if you are new to the game, not only are you behind, but you are punished for inexperience too.

I found it to be pretty decent, but personally I couldn't stick with it long before I grew a bit tired of it. I certainly don't feel it stacks up to Mario Kart in any possible way.

However, at least it was a lot better than the Excite Bike sequel, I really disliked that.

They should try again, maybe with another vehicle type and WiFi up to par with MK Wii

there's a definite learning curve to the controls, and it doesn't really click until you've started mastering some of scoring stuff (turbo jumps, tree runs, long drifts, etc...), but the controls *are* great, and there's grand fun to be had here.

and agree that 1p controller swapping is a better "multiplayer" mode than the 2p mode, which is too bad. more outlandish paint jobs and diverse environments would have been nice, but i put a *lot* of hours into this.

i'm less interested in a sequel as i am in another great over-the-top racing game with tilt steering and general outlandishness.

the soundtrack in *my* version of exicte truck is awesome.

I like Excite, but I still don't see the point of that thread title.

I never gave it too much thought, but your post just made it clear to me (a person that's not too fond of racing games) why I like Mario Kart and Excite Truck.

Since when did people start hating on Motorstorm? the game is awesome and while Excite Truck is more fun, it is still a really fun racing game. They provide different kinds of fun for me.

Has anyone tried out Excitetruck yet with the Wii Wheel? My copy of Excitetruck is no longer in my possession (its in my younger siblings hands) and I haven't had a chance to pick up MarioKart Wii yet. Does the game handle any differently with the wheel?

No AI trucks to crash with.

Play DiRT.
In comparison to Motorstorm, I just couldn't stand DiRT. Motorstorm was essentially an all out arcade game. Very limited set of features but the on-track gameplay was incredible. It was far more intense than something like DiRT.

The handling in DiRT was its biggest issue, but really, the track design was much less interesting as was the actual racing.

EXCITE!

Bring me Excite Truck 2 with more computer players and better local multi options and I'll reserve that shit weeks in advance.

Excite truck is the next new classic for Nintendo to ignore for 10 years.

Amazing game, truely amazing. I seriously thought I would have a heart attack from all the EXCITE.

excite truck is one of the many wii titles that got hampered by the critics just because its on the wii.
i doubt people even tried it out...

motorstorm on the other hand is a game that got released around the PS 3 launch when it only had like this game and resistance.. (and genji 2 )

so yeah i think both titles look amazing considering their respective machines they are on.. gameplaywise id say excite truck is probably a tad better.. too bad the multiplayer is so barebones though

i think it did sell decently though.. it was released as a launch game after all

It's not new. It is the sequel to Excite Bike.

Excite really is awesome. I actually liked the music too, perfect cheese to match the in-game insanity.

That's the whole point of this thread - almost everyone underestimates how good Excite is until they actually give it some time.

Motorstorm's appeal is immediately apparent, it does exactly what it looks like it will. Excite takes a bit of time to get a hold of, because it really is a very original game whose appeal is purely gameplay.

i totally disagree with the 'racing game for racing game rejects' statement - i'm a racing games aficionado (of the kind that does the 24h le mans drive and does tens of thousands of km/year in GTs) and yet i love excite truck. the game is one of those very rare games which get right whatever they're aiming at. cannot say the same about motorstorm, though, but i have about an hour of driving in it, so maybe i'm missing something about it; from my cursory experience with it, motorstorm is more of a crash extravaganza than an actual racing game.

Excitetruck is one of the best racing games ever! My only complaint was the 2 player mode seemed to just be you and the other player with no computer players racing against you.

as good of a review as any other I've seen for Excite Truck

I've played both and I very much agree with the OP, not everyone thinks all that much about Motorstorm.
