LTTP: EXCITETRUCK!

So, I never really got to play this game that much. I played it on Wii kiosks before the system actually launched, and I played it a bit at friends houses, but yesterday I had the good fortune to find a coworker who was willing to sell the game to me for TEN BUCKS. Needless to say, MINE.

This game is frickin awesome. Hataz be damned, because everything in this game is completely full of awesome and win. Control is tight, but at the same time becomes loose enough to not allow you to completely screw up if you make gestures that are too huge. It's really all about finesse. The tracks are amazing as well, full of awesomely huge jumps, shittons of trees to avoid/crash into, and lots of great turns. I've only completed the Bronze and Silver cups so far in the easiest difficulty level, but even now the AI is still giving me a hell of a time. Maybe it's because my truck kinda sucks (I'm using the first truck you get, as I haven't really unlocked many yet) but I never feel like I'm completely destroying the computer. I feel like I have to WORK a little bit for my win. Even the soundtrack is great; and if you don't like it you can play your own stuff. I've been listening to the new Go! Team on it, and it fits the mood perfectly. Weren't people actually hating on this game when it came out? Because wow, those people are CRAZY. This game is awesome. Amazing and awesome.

As Andy in that other thread so eloquently put it,

This game is a fun rental, but not something I'd cough up a ton of cash for.

good thing it's only $50!

What's the multi like?
Personally, I think it needs work, badly. Excite Truck 2 (Taru Jesus willing, it WILL happen) really ought to be online with as many players as they can manage. Excite Truck is amazing, but it's amazing because of the fantastic single-player experience, not its rather pedestrian split-screen multi.

Even though multiplayer is only 2 racers, it's still a lot of fun provided you and the other person are both decent at the game. Race, then watch the replays. Also, drink a lot.

yes but with the amount of bonuses getting racked up by two good players, the first place bonus needs to be much more than 50 stars.

Look, we picked up ET when we bought the system six or seven months ago, but while my roommate played it quite a bit for a few days, I only played a race or two.

I need to know: is "badass Excitetruck!" as in a) hair metal trashy guilty pleasure bad ass with a touch of sarcasm, b) Resident Evil quality badass that deserves it's full props or c) none of the above?

It's a classic game with very personal game mechanics, people need to understand that while the new tilt controls are fun and they work very well, that's not the core of this game. ET is all about the fantastic track design and game mechanics which give much room for personal improvement (gameplay depth). It's all about mastering the courses (getting max points) on all skill levels, and having lots of fun while doing it.

EXCITETRUCK!!!!!!!!! OMG EXCITEEEEEEEEEEE !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, this game is just so bad ass. I failed a level, only to try again. I came in 2nd, but because I CRASHED into the first place guy as I was just about to finish, gaining me a Super Truck Smash, I had enough points to pass and go on to the next stage. EXCITIEIEIEIEIEIEIEITITIITEIEI111!!!!!!!11!!!!!

Yeah, I'm a big fan of this game as well. I got it as part of a bundle package when the Wii launched and I still play it to this day. The control is fucking fantastic. Drinfting is perfect, the sense of speed is great and the difficulty increases just right as you go through the different modes. Multiplayer really sucks though. Online needs to be included next time. I'm all done with split screen. Also a graphical boost would be nice. I know it can look a lot better then it did..Even on the WII.

:lol :lol

I love that picture/avatar. Excite Truck 2 NEEDS that on the cover art.

About multiplayer, it is somewhat fun but it's just way too stripped down compared to single player. Given its lack of modes and features, Excite Truck certainly is a lot of fun, for a lot longer than I expected. It may very well be a 7.5/10 game, but those 7.5 units of game are jam packed with awesome.

I've tried to convince my housemate, who actually owns the Wii in my house, to get this game, but he isn't a Gaffer. And he can never be a gaffer. He thinks he is a gaming connoisseur, but he ain't. He says, "but but all the websites (IGN, GT, Gamespot, gamespot etc etc) only gave it a 7 and it sounds really shallow and short.

I can't convince him otherwise, he actually went and bought spiderman Wii. I feel a little ball of bitterness in my throat that never leaves. Especially when I see Eledee's etc bomb, and Scarface/spiderman/NFS/etc etc sitting on our living room shelf.

EDIT: You all sound like you're speedballing or some heavy a-class stuff.

it really is a great game and it deserves the hype and praise it gets. a really addictive and challenging racer. I still havent managed to unlock super excite mode yet. I have a couple tracks left to get S rank.

Exactly.

If Excite Truck Two has good multiplayer with computer companion racers and online, forgeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet about it.

The gold cup in Super Excite is kicking my ass left right and center, unfortunately. :( S-rank on everything prior and I can't get above a C-rank here.

Congratulations on becoming EXCITE!

We need some soundtrack recommendations up in this thread. First off: almost every song on the soundtrack for the first Matrix movie.

Reading about Excite Truck again makes me smile a big, broad smile of happiness and EXCITE!

I was talking to my friend while we were playing this, and the question arose about whether or not the game would be as exciting if it had just traditional controls. It's true that the core gameplay would still be the same - the stunts, the track design, the rampant chaos when getting in a scuffle with computer opponents - but I argued that because of the fact that you are REQUIRED to move to play the game you are immediately becoming part of the game, which in turn elevates all emotional responses to the game.

It's kind of like the same thing when, during a huge jump, you raise your feet and toes more in an effort to help your little computer truck make the leap. It makes you move more, which gets you into it more.

By the way, we both did the feet thing several times. And tilting.

Anyway, fantastic game. Buy it, buy it now!

Okay, I JUST discovered how awesome the challenge mode is. The mode where you smash into other cars is truly spectacular. This could have been a full game in itself. EXCITE SMASH!

No no no. You've never played ET until you've played it jamming out to the DK rap.

After beating the game, I still don't get why everybody here is so EXCITEd about it... not a bad game, but not a good one either to me.
When you say "beat", do you mean Excite or Super Excite or?
