LTTP: F-Zero GX

Awesome game that makes me sad that I could never unlock the AX courses. I'm just not good enough and no amount of playing ever made me good enough.

I'm still happy that I have beaten the game on the highest difficulty. Graphics, Gameplay and especially the Music all fantastic.

Come On Nintendo ask Rockstar to bring F-Zero-Mute City Stories.

I remember Nintendo giving us Mario Kart Double Dash shortly after this. That was a sad year.

This game's release was quite important, I think: it symbolized that the break between challenging gameplay and mainstream appeal was truly final.

I remember this game... completed everything but Chapter 9 on Very Hard. I grew tired of putting anymore effort into the game. xD

There's also all the original music in the cutscenes for story mode. After doing a search, turns out these tracks were never released.

I think i'm going to try 100% this.

I always wanted the song that plays during Chapter 7. So good.

Night of Big Blue is not during a cut scene, but its nice too.

Amazing game and truly ahead of it's time I think.

Spent countless hours trying to beat the story missions but never completed it.

A WiiU version can't be released soon enough.

BTW, found an EBAY listing here for the AX arcade cabinet if anyone's interested. ("force-feedback" version)

Sucks that Wii U won't have Gamecube controller support, I guess CC Pro would be the next best thing if they release an F-Zero for it.
PLEASE RELEASE AN F-ZERO FOR IT.

Somehow I've never played this. I recently bought a Wii to play GameCube games, so I'll make sure to add this to my list of titles to get.

Were there any Action Replay codes that unlock all the content?

Fucking hell. I almost impulse bought this.

It feels good knowing so many people also feel this game is the greatest racing game ever made.As soon as I get home from work I'm playing.

I have incredible amounts of love for F Zero GX. I didn't stop playing until AX tracks were unlocked. I was so addicted. The speed, the awesome soundtrack - and as the difficulty got higher the game kept changing its face as to how awesome it really is.

If Nintendo keeps this F-Zero on consoles dead, it kills a part of me too...

Absolutely brilliant game, my favorite racer and one of my favorite games. I honestly think it's nearly impossible for it to ever be surpassed.

This thread is greatly inspiring me to track down this game. Is it still fun if you're only playing by yourself? I remember playing the demo on the Master Quest Gamecube disc years back and watching the trailer over and over for that god-like Big Blue remix. I've never really played F-Zero but I love all the music tracks and Captain Falcon in the SSB games.

I don't have numbers but sales were said to be poor. The 'Cube wasn't as hot as something like the PS2 and there was little-to-no marketing. The game got shafted in terms of exposure.
you're right, the only thing I remember about the game before launch was a trailer on the Loz master quest disc. I didn't even know it was out until I went to pick up soul calibur 2 and saw it on the shelf.I bought it on impulse, but it was a good bet.

Yeah I impulse'd it too at the mall following a Magic the Gathering tournament lol (game store and card shop in the same mall? hell yes). I'm sure a lot of players bought it for the same reasons.

oh okay. looks tough. not impossible, though. I can think of some WipeoutHD tracks that were similarly difficult.

It would have been far more difficult if he didn't kill one of the two cheating bastards at the start.

You'd might as well go all the way.

It moves and rattles, I want to experience that intensity in my life.

We have that in a local mall cinema here in Monterrey, Mexico. Another location has the simpler cab. I´ll weep uncontrollably when they are put out of commission.

if you guys are doing arcade mode, i'd recommend mighty hurricane. he has low armor but he has very predictable handling that doesn't get "squirrely" when you're going really fast.

that chapter 7 very hard took me a few days of trying if i remember correctly. the amount of times some asshole would come flying by, and believe me you hear that jet stream sound letting you know you are fucked was countless.

if you don't take a lot of people out you don't have the extra nitro, and you can get rid of black dick nose

GX is without question my favorite racing game - and the only racing game I would count among my general top fifty list. I lost a Gamecube memory card over the summer and had a great time unlocking all the cups and courses again. If only there were a track editor, I'd still be playing right now.

That's how you play though. I once took out so many cars that I came in last place and still got second in that race.

Anybody having difficulties with the game needs to learn how to attack (sideswipe is godly) and then target any racer with RIVAL above them. Do that enough each race it it really won't matter which place you finish.

Beastman, Bio Rex, Captain Falcon, Digi Boy, Leon, Mrs. Arrow, Octoman, Phoenix, Princia, Super Arrow are my favorites. Just sitting there hearing the songs, sweet memoires.

I feel like, if they had a green machine, it was good for me.

There was the one that looked like a fighter jet without wings. I think that was Beastman. Its hard to explain, but it just felt like that thing was never going perfectly straight. It always had a bit of a list from whatever direction you were straightening from. Its not that it didn't handle either, it was glued to the track. Only thing I could place first on those tubular tracks with.

Then there was Bio Rex. I just remember thinking that machine looked cool.

I spent a ton of time early on with Roger Buster in the Mighty Hurricane, for the same reasons mentioned above. It's a nice steady machine. But man, the best machine for me is that guy's partner according to the fiction. Draq in the Mighty Typhoon. That thing has a wicked boost and always goes exactly where I want it. Made a lot of the other machines feel completely unplayable to me.

Yep. F-ZERO GX is the best racing game ever made. I would be so happy if they came out with a Wii U F-ZERO as good as this game... but they won't :(

it was pretty much a match made in heaven. nintendo and sega coming together to make one of the most brilliant games is a dream come true for gaming fogies.

in terms of its concepts and art, f-zero is the nintendo series that was most like a sega game. guys in ridiculous costumes living in a futuristic utopia in which the most loved sport is extremely lethal and fast races... that is very sega. and then in turn, they implanted their signature feel into it, from the sega blue skies to the cheesy character bio music to the tear-inducing intensity.

i honestly don't think a sequel is necessary. this is a flash in the pan, once in a lifetime kind of thing here, and its sequel would be an inevitable disappointment... especially since amusement vision is no longer with us.

I can think of some WipeoutHD tracks that were similarly difficult.

f-zero gx is a lean mean fighting machine and wipeout is a doddering old man.

Fuck chapter 7. I'll get at it again in a bit

Anybody know the full lyrics to the song in the bar scene?

Taken from youtube

When you have only one chance
You've got to reach inside,
For the inner strength and intelligence do the right thing in time.
But it only happens If there is one deeper that one,
You'll reach any one who know piece of mind.
You know, Victory belong to those that try,
And once there You lose you must decide.
Then we'll cease his property
Then you groom your ability
You'll reach anyone who knows piece of mind..
F-Zeeeeeeeerooooooo! F-Zeeeeroooooo! F-Zero!!!!

Yeah, me too. Is it possible to introduce a 100% save to a GC memory card via Homebrew Channel? AX tracks look gorgeous.

GX is amazing. I'm baffled as to why there hasn't been an F-Zero on Wii, DS or 3DS even announced yet.

Get Sega back on this shit, Nintendo. Or if they're too busy, give it to some other racing dev. Criterion comes to mind.

THIS IS DJ ATOMIKA, LIVE FROM MUTE CITY.

[EDIT] I've also played the AX version of this. There used to be an arcade in a town close to my hometown that had it. The whole cabinet moved with it as you went through corners and stuff, and the boost button was this huge-ass button on the middle of the steering wheel. Felt so rad slamming that thing.

F-zero is the only racing series that could apply in e-sport contests. It's a lot more demanding than most FPS. the whole franchise also features the best OST's of all time.

Beat chapter 7. It's really easy when you take out your clone. After that, it's pretty much a normal race. I did it 2 times after with the same trick. it has to be impossible to win a straight race.

no. Nintendo's F-Zero X is better. i appreciate the GX effort by Sega but nintendo could do a better job with capable hardware (FZX lost a lot thanks to the crappy n64 hardware)

Never played X. Had GX and loved everything about it except the difficulty. I ended up having to remove it from my house because it made me throw my Wavebird.

How is the difficulty in X, compared to GX? I might be tempted to get it on VC.

How the hell does one go about sideswiping?

How the hell does one go about sideswiping?

X to sideswipe or Z to spin.

X is a very precise maneuver, where you hit it in conjunction with a direction on the control stick to take out a target directly next to you.

Z is a much sloppier spin move and is good for plowing through a tight crowded corner at high speed.
