LTTP: Fire Emblem :Path of Radiance (Gamecube)

Is the one for DS any good? I've had that for a while, but never cracked it open. I've always wanted to try out the console versions since I like SRPGs but haven't tried out the FE games.

It's good, but it's nothing really that groundbreaking. I enjoyed it, but it was a step back from the 2 GBA ones and the GC one.

A friend of mine said something like this: "Chess is an extremely tactical game, but even then I've beaten a much better player thanks to some simple mistake on his part. I consider that lucky for me."

A friend of mine said that he hates lame, condescending analogies.

The DS game (Shadow Dragon) is a good game, but easily the worst Fire Emblem out of the ones released outside Japan. This won't be a problem if you've never played a Fire Emblem game before, but if you have, you'll find Shadow Dragon very shallow and soulless. The gameplay is mostly still there (no rescue sucks though), but there's hardly any story and most characters are completely forgettable.

It was a remake of the NES game right? That might explain it.

Only pussies care about support convos anyway. I started my Fire Emblem with Thracia 776, and the game didn't fuck around with this shit.
I don't know how you can dislike the support conversations. You don't need to touch them but they can add a good amount of backstory and character development. Worst part about Path of Radience is it didn't have a gallery to read them afterward.

After the death of the Shining Force series (yes it is fucking dead), I drifted from SRPG to SRPG, looking for a suitable substitute. I played lots, but nothing did the trick until Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance.

Now I want to play every game in the series. The only one I've picked up so far is Shadow Dragon, which is great but doesn't hold a candle to PoR. I'm looking forward to Radiant Dawn.

I really liked Shadow Dragon, but it was the first portable FE I had played so I just appreciated having Fire Emblem in the palm of my hand. I understand the GBA games were a bit more ambitious.

I disagree with RD's story being worse than POR. If anything, I thought it was too short. They're telling every side of the war and the consequences of their actions. There's not a single game where you're shown the negative impact of what the hero has done in this war that makes you feel bad for the other side as well. Fighting yourself was incredibly epic. I've never played a game where I have to beat myself up before. Just watching old friends split up into different factions and fighting each other and seeing their conversations gives me chills even as I type this thread.

This.

Plus yeah, the Sucky Brigade is awful, but that's the point, they are mostly a bunch of nobodies who try to fight for their country. Their levels aren't that difficult with a bit of strategy, and once you level them up or get Ike's mercenaries the game is much easier and the difficulty stays balanced.

First FE game I ever finished (the second and last one I finished is Sacred Stones). Great game :)

I need to play the sequel but I hardly remember anything about this one :/ I finished it only 2 years ago.

I didn't mind Miciah. Her personality is a bit boring, but her relationship with Sothe is interesting enough and Sacrifice is a pretty good skill that can be abused for extra experience.

Maybe it's just that I have been using that super-hi-resolution version of the Radiant Dawn artwork as my wallpaper for so many years.

I'm clearly the only person here who liked Micaihah.

I like Micaiah the minute she said: "Right. Lord Ike, "hero" of the Crimean Liberation, leader of the Greil Mercenaries, and father of Sothe's children..."

Great, now I want to go and play Radiant Dawn again. But I should probably start at the beginning with Path of Radiance.

Goodbye life.

Bumping this thread because NeoGAF doesn't need a new LTTP thread every time someone picks up a game older than 6 months.

Anyhow, Path of Radiance:

I am a big Fire Emblem fan. I have completed 4 out of the 5 games that have made it to North America. as well as two that were Japanese only (the second SNES title, and first GBA title). For some reason though, I never got around to POR before now. I was taking a break from gaming when it debuted, and a series of circumstances has kept it sitting in my backlog for the last 2 years.

I started up the game last weekend, and holy crap am I addicted. When I'm at work I am constantly thinking about how I wish I could be at home playing. When I AM at home, I do my part to be a semi-responsible husband (help make dinner, eat and clean up, talk to the wife a little), and then spend the rest of my free time for the night glued to the TV. It's gotten so bad that I rush to get ready in the mornings just so I can squeeze in 20mins or so of game time between work.

I am currently on Chapter 13 or 14 (whichever chapter comes after the desert battle). I am finally at the stage where the majority of my characters are either freshly promoted or will be promoting soon (which is usually my favourite part of a FE game). I kind of wish I had played this game before Radiant Dawn, as the plot is completely spoiled, but it is nice to see where the characters in that game started.

A couple questions:

- Usually Fire Emblem games will tell you whether your character will get one or two attacks. This one seems not to. In fact, the amount of damage that I am told I will do is not always correct. Is there some option I have to turn on to see the expanded information?

- It there a way to see your weapon grade progression? Usually you can see how far your character is from getting their next rank in swords/bows/etc. I don't see that in this game.

Well, Shining Force was pretty much an FE clone. :lol
