LTTP: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors(spoilers)

Yep I'm playing through this right now for the first time myself. On my 4th playthrougu right now. It's basically like the end of Wayne's World lol

HOly cow, just got that game yesterday after seeing this thread. And I am loving it !

I finished it once and got an absolutely terrible ending that left feeling very wtfed lol with a yellow submarine and everybody dead. I am suspecting though I shouldn't believe apperances. I guess the only two I can say are for sure not guilty are snake and 9 since well they explode. Based on the fact that someone threw him in that room, the total must have been 3 and since snake is 2, it leaves us a bunch of options as for who the two culprits were, then again there weren't necessarily two culprits. The watch of nine was still accessible. So any one person can be carrying two watches but it would then by default mean that seven is in on it. But then 7 + 9 + 2 = 18 = 9 doesn't cut it. for the room of three. So he left the access back to the body of 9 open for the sake of someone else and that person got that 9 watch. 2 + 9 = 11 = 2 so Ace would have been able to Kill Snake all on his own actually if he had that extra watch... I think I got a lot of the backstory covered in my first run, I know the backstory of both 7 and 8 now , doubt I'll ever learn that of 9 apart straight from zero, which leaves me 1 2 3 4 6. In my current playthrough, i am gonna try to focus more on 1 and 2. I suspect 1 quite a bit and I know for sure 2 is innocent but I wonder why he got killed first. And also wtf is up with people getting killed so easily near the end and June being found far from the others. Given it all has to do with mind manipulation, could they have been manipulated into killing each other ? I really wish Junpei checked all their pulses -.- I am assuming the first he checked is dead for sure. I believe it was clover so I guess I can rule her out as well. So exciting ! :) Feels like an Agatha Christie novel.

It's like you almost keep being on to something but then you end up being wrong. I love it!

God fucking damn. Got the True Ending. This game is one hell of an experience.

One thing I didn't fully grasp is how was June in the present? Is it by the off-chance that Junpei saves Akane in the past?

The game practically starts on the timeline where June is saved, or that's what I think. When June starts getting feverish, you know you're going the wrong way since that means she's getting torched. When she dies, she disappears. I have no idea why she disappears in the true ending though, someone mind illuminating me on this?

I thought she left with Santa in the True Ending. The safe ending is the one where she disappears

Pretty much in the end of the True Ending, June disappears, she was leaning on a wall in the incinerator, she felt weak, but she somehow disappeared.

Like this, yea. She disappears in the safe ending because she dies. She obviously doesn't die in the true ending so she shouldn't be disappearing anywhere.

At first I thought she (young Akane) is removing her consciousness from Junpei or something, but that obviously shouldn't do anything to June - she's, in a way, her own being in the game. As in, young Akane isn't in control of her in any way. Also it's explained in the game that young Akane is actually experiencing both games at the same time. Like watching two movies at the same time as it's said in the game.

So yeah, I have no idea what happens to her and I'd like to know.

Also, from 999's web pages answers section:
"Did they ever catch up to Akane and Aoi in the end?"

"Nope, they didn't. Junpei goes on the spend to rest of his life chasing after her."

That's kind of cruel lol
I mean if I'm completely honest,
I kind of wanted to see them get together.
I'm a sucker for romances in these kind of stories, I think they usually add to the heartwarming, or heartbreaking, moments.

I think that question is answered in the Q&A, Muntu and DaBoss. First post this page.

Go read that!

And if it's not;
She simply just slips out with Santa when you don't look

Edit: I see you found it already :)

Oh it was there. Apparently I missed it the first time.

Well.. That makes sense, I guess.
You'd think somebody would have noticed them slipping away though.

Aww wtf, I don't like that one bit.

999's story sorta continues in vlr in a small way. if you want to see more, you might consider picking it up.

Hmm, OK. Are there any characters that show up from before that isn't in the post above yours? I guess Alice and Clover appearing are not spoilers.

Well this is my third ending. And I feel frankly cheated by a reveal. That it wasn't snake in the shower room. I made sure to read carefully when they discovered the body and there was no mention of the head being unrecognizable... And also wth is up with that giant red R in the shower room that everybody is ignoring. I love good mysteries but give me the correct clues, don't basically lie to me or hit me from the left field with illogical stuff that there is absolutely no way to see coming. Years ago I took a class at university in Japanese detective fiction, yah very random I know, but that was one of the golden rules. That the sleuth comes to the correct conclusion based on the same set of clues as the reader. That snake one might be blamed on bad translation. I dunno.

I just finished the game and probably got the worst ending :
everyone is dead by the submarine
=(

Should I replay right away and skip all the old dialogue?

Do endings trigger according to your choice of groups or are there other factors?
eg:Secret items to pick up etc, dialogue...

I'd like a spoiler free answer thanks.

I still haven't been able to get into VLR. Two things.

One, the tone. 999 had some light moments, but overall it was pretty grim, creepy and even Saw-like. So far, the first few hours of VLR have been... funny. Frequently laugh-out-loud funny. I mean, it's making me laugh so that's good, but this isn't really what I wanted.

Two, holy shit is the setting boring. We go from an awesome old cruise liner to a big metal complex with grey walls. Visually it does absolutely nothing for me.

(And a third that doesn't count: I picked it up on Vita digitally at launch as I didn't have a 3DS yet, and man I wish I had waited or bought retail so I could sell it. The sharper graphics and improved sound are nice, but the game feels so sluggish with a capacitive touchscreen, that in itself is damn near gamebreaking for me.)

Still, I need to push through at some point, hopefully it hooks me as much as 999 did. At the very least I want to see how it ties in.

Yep, go ahead and skip anything it'll let you. It will stop fast-forwarding automatically when you encounter anything that's new or different.

The ending paths are based on room selection and key dialogue choices. There are a few kind of "checkpoint" moments you'll start to recognize after a couple playthroughs. TBH, after a few playthroughs, you might want to consider looking up a "map" for the endings, as it's very possible to start getting repeat endings which would be super-frustrating.

So there's no way I can play this on my EU 3DS? If so that shit sucks big time since I tried the VLR demo and found it really enjoyable.

I've finished the game today. I should have imported this earlier (now I've borrowed it), because it really was something to hit the right notes for me. I was hooked for most of the time and enjoyed most story aspects, even though it mostly had not so mind-blowing revelations. Some anime tropes weren't so hot, especially random humor and the whole love affair of the main character was especially bad. I kinda made sense in the end, but overall it was overblown and the biggest offender is of course that it just keeps getting more sappy, even after you find out
that his love interest is some wack ass murderer
.

Now, a few more weeks until the retail version of VRL finally comes out in my country...

I DON'T UNDERSTAND

If Akane died 9 years ago than who set up the 2nd nonary game in order for Junpei to save Akane so that she could set up the 2nd nonary game in order for Junpei to save her in order to.......FUCK

From my understanding, it's
Santa. The whole number thing on his bracelet being 0 pretty much gives it away.

EDIT:
Akane was in on it too.

EDIT2:
After reading the answers on the 999 site. Apparently, June has the 0 bracelet, and Santa has the 9 bracelet.

It was both Akane and Santa. Akane didn't die 9 years ago, she survives in the past because Junpei helps her, then her and Santa plan and execute the second nonary game that she had already "seen". I understood it as you were playing as Young Akane the whole time, and she basically saw all the potential paths and what they led to so that she could guide Junpei to make the correct decisions to save her. So in reality, the only thing that actually happens is the timeline with the True End. The others are basically alternate timelines, or maybe just "what if" scenarios. So there's not really a paradox in the "true" story.

Akane survives because Junpei helps her, so she sets up the second game to make sure that all the stuff she saw happen can actually happen

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong... or not making sense.

Yea, you're right. I'm reading the answers on the official 999 site. That pretty much is spot on.

Don't read this until you beat the game...

Holy shit, I'm surprised he was able to deduce it was likely Ace! He even considered the pulse, backtracking to the number 9 bracelet, and the way they add up! In doing so, he also solved who "killed" Snake! I'm impressed.

So you want me to unspoiler mark the part that's the spoiler?

You could have just go with something like: "Warning, VLR spoiler ahead:" and put it into context under the spoiler tag itself.

Anyway, I'm just being picky as I didn't play VLR yet and very much afraid of being spoiled. If you don't think it's a big deal, it's probably fine. It's just that I assumed that this should have been from 999 since this is a 999 thread and was a bit shocked.

Half of proper tagging is obviously pointing out what the spoiler is about.

Like
he learned how to use spoilers in the end
(this is a spoiler about Men Who Don't Know How To Use Spoilers 3's ending)

Story and twists are really the only thing 999 and VLR have, there's nothing more irritating than someone spoiling them.

Just finished my second playthrough and got the same ending :(

You might want to check a guide and see what you need to do to get the
safe
ending and then the true ending. I found repeating all the puzzles was tedious. The game is well worth playing until you've seen the true ending.

Haha, thanks, yah, most of my guesses were correct actually. The one I never would have guessed is the June/Santa being brothers. Santa had me completely fooled. Well that's until the very end with the steam room when I figured something was up with that.

The spoiler was that
Snake is mentioned in VLR.
If I followed your advice, all that would be spoiler marked is that he has had a job.

I said I couldn't really say what the spoiler was about without spoiling it, so obviously read at your own risk. If you're overly paranoid about spoilers, don't read it. It's as simple as that. Mentioning that the minor spoiler is from
VLR when discussing Snake
reveals the only part that could possibly be considered a spoiler.

The funny thing is I thought I was being overly cautious by marking that spoiler in the first place, especially considering the OP had already seen the Safe ending.

I got VLR today. So how different are the endings? Like the box says 24 endings which is a bit overwhelming to me. Are the endings different enough to warrant playing through to get them all? Are there any endings that have the same situation as the Coffin Ending and the True Ending?

I also got VLR a couple of days ago and so far am not enjoying anywhere near as much as 9 9 9, does the suspense/plot picks up after a while ?

Well, started playing it on Friday - made some decisions, stuck with a person, got a BAD END (s
ubmarine
). Did this 3 more times, getting two other endings, and a repeat of my first BAD END - possibly as a result of taking the "toss everyone" option and choosing door
3
, lol. My favorite is definitely the
axe
one, just from the madness of it.

... Tried to think of what I was doing, and I realized that there were certain weird parts in my playthroughs, where a character would say something, then would immediately go "nevermind", or something else would happen (like in the lab with
Lotus
). So, I decided to mix it up, and choose a path I didn't take before. Knew I was getting somewhere when I was being stopped here and there by new dialogue pieces - starting from the
safe
in that first place, to the small mention of the fake
limb
, to
prosopagnosia
... currently at the 'big event', so to say. Things are taking a crazy turn.

Make sure to get the true ending as well, you get new rooms (including a veyr frustrating one) and a far longer ending.

I literally just finished up everything a few minutes ago, and came back to post.

Well, all I can say is O_o. Man, game is crazy. That last set there, phew. Not sure which room was particularly frustrating though... I didn't even take that long on the (9)
sudoku
puzzle.

All in all, this game has provided endless amusement and twists. I'm even more motivated to pick up VLR now than I was before :D

My friend just finished this game a few days ago.

He got confused by the story.

I tried to explain it to him, but I didn't do a very good job at it, hahaha.

So many........ twist and turns and shit.
