LTTP: Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations

I just finished case 2 in Justice for All this morning. I hear case 3 is kinda weak, but case 4 is great. After that I'm gonna dive right in to Trials and Tribulations.
After that, I'll probaby take a break from AA games for a bit with Patapon, then I'll pick up Apollo Justice. I really love these games....

I recently had the same thing occur. I finished AA, then couldn't find Justice For All, so I picked up Trials and Tribulations. After completing the first case in TnT, I stumbled across JFA at EB Games for like 15 bucks new. They had quite a few copies. I'd check there, even if you already did a few weeks ago. I think they just started restocking it. From what I hear, the fourth case in JFA is considered by quite a few fols to be the best in the series, so I'd suggest playing it....

The thing that really got me about Trials and Tribulations is the overall story. The first two games had mostly unrelated cases with just one or two events carrying over into the next episode, just to have some kind advancement through an overall plot.
Trials and Tribulations then came out with a well packaged storyline that not only connects to the previous games strongly, but also intertwines all of its own cases but one. It is, in itself, a very well packaged adventure game, and if it wasn't for the ties to the previous games I would recommend this as the best story game you will ever play on the DS.
And for those of you jumping in now, only Justice For All, the second game, had four cases. The others have five. I waited an extra couple days to finish Trials and Tribulations because I didn't know that.
Trials and Tribulations then came out with a well packaged storyline that not only connects to the previous games strongly, but also intertwines all of its own cases but one. It is, in itself, a very well packaged adventure game, and if it wasn't for the ties to the previous games I would recommend this as the best story game you will ever play on the DS.

Phoenix Wright had a lot in common with Ace Attorney 3: Trials and Tribulations in that they have a main story arc that essentially ties the game together. Phoenix Wrights central story arc was
the development and evolution of Edgeworth as a character and his role in the DL-6 incident

On the other hand, Ace Attorney 2: Justice for All was very weak in that regard. There is no common theme or character that held the storyline together, making the game feel very episodic. It was this weakness that was the ultimate flaw of Justice for All, there was no sense of beginning and no sense of ending because all 4 cases had nothing to do with each other.
I was pretty disappointed with the length and simplicity of Case 2... until I got to its twist! Happy the series continues to surprise! 
Edit - But, HC, that last case in JFA was too fucking awesome. I agree that PW2 disappointed on many levels. Music, story arc, and shoddy localization all brought it down heavily. But of the 10.5 cases I've now experienced throughout this series, JFA's final case was BY FAR my favorite!

You can say, to a degree, that this is similar to what happened Franziska in Justice for All, even though I wouldn't even count that. And I looked at Trails and Tribulations a little bit differently; more of a story about an overarching conflict that managed to continue even after death.

Just finished off the first game after finally finding it over Christmas. Really, really, really, blown away by it. I tried the first two cases after Christmas, but it didn't really catch me. The last three cases were all just fantastic though, they had characters that were easy to like, and had a nice central theme over things that happened in the past. Another thing that caught me off guard was the length of the last two cases. The first three only took me 6-7 hours combined, to finish. The fourth took me about 5 hours, and the fifth probably took 10 hours. I don't think I did it all that slowly either, I never had any game overs, wasn't ever really stuck on any part in particular, so I don't think it was me being slow. Is this around average length for most of you?
I already bought Justice For All at a Circuit City a few weeks ago, because I saw it new for 15$, so I'm going right into that one now. After that I'm probably going to wait before trying to find the last two, I've seen ample amounts of Trials and Tribulations around various stores, so I shouldn't have that much trouble finding it when I want too.

It's very funny to see this thread. I just got home with my copy a few minutes ago.
I can't find Justice for All anywhere, and I'm just starting the 5th case in the first game.

Weird that you can't find Justice for All, there were 4 copies at my Circuit City, in some sort of bin full of DS games. It was the only good game in the bin mind you, but still, keep on looking, you'll find it eventually.
T@T is by far the best of the Phoenix Wright games.
It was near flawless where every case is good.
Case 3 and 5 sucked for the first one while freakin all the cases sucked for JFA except for the last one.
JFA I had to force myself to finish the game (mainly just so I can play the highly hyped case 4) while for T@T I started and didn't stop at all until it was done. Really messed me up the next day at work.

Finished today. That was an awesome (and I use that word advisedly) final case. I don't think I want to play another AA game, because it's likely to pale in comparison.
T&T is, after all, much better than the other two. That said, I feel sorry for you guys who played it without finishing the others, because the overarching plot was so heavily based on the characterization and story events established in the earlier games.
One complaint: I wish they'd have a literate editor give the script a once-over before they go gold with these games. I'm sure they could find volunteers who'd do it for free. There were some especially ludicrous typos that jerked me out of the game at important moments.

I assure you that the the game stands up with the best of them, and easily outclasses two of them.
I have my preordered copy of AA4 sitting down while I finish up PW3, im on my 3rd case.
Man, I got into the series just 3 months ago and Ive played and beaten the first 2. They both had awesome cases that gripped me like no game's story has ever done. Awesome series capcom has on its hands. I wish trauma center had a gripping story like this. We need a lot more of these jobs to become games and be dramatized. If you like Phoenix Wright, you should check out Famicom Detective Club for Super Famicom/SNES. If you don't understand Japanese you'll have to get it through the interwebs and download a translation patch.
The ending isn't really as super-shocking as some of the cases in AA games, but the story itself will creep the shit out of you.

Wow, PW3 is managing to surprise me in some ways.
Case 1 was expected to be a pathetically short and easy case, as all Case 1 tend to be, but it went back far enough to be relevant and interesting well beyond my expectation.
Case 2 was WAY longer and more complicated than the earlier Case 2s, IMHO. It wasn't difficult from a logical perspective, but it was drawn out and more complex, such that it almost felt like an easier Case 3-type case. It felt more like 2 Case 2s combined. It was QUITE well done, IMHO.
I'm on Case 3 now, and it's started to feature some of the more-difficult-to-grasp logic that I'd expect it too. And it's been quite amusing. The HDTV and Master Card commercial references had me crack some smiles, and the 1337aZnPrincSz bit had me literally laughing out loud! :lol
If Case 2 is anything to go by, then Cases 3 and 4 should be massive and epic, particularly since I'm getting a sense that the traitorous poison lady from Case 1 and PW's past is going to play some kind of bigger role in the grand scheme of things. Perhaps she'll even be that one common element that somehow manages to tie most if not all of the cases in every individual PW game!
Either way, this might be the biggest PW yet, and that's saying something, considering that PW1 had that bonus 5th case!
If there's anything that disappoints, it's in the continued sloppy localization. The dialog, though improved over the mess that was PW2, continues to lack the keen edge found in cases 1-4 of PW1, and continues to evidence PW2's typos and grammar errors, though to a lessened degree.
Very excited to continue playing. I'm trying to finish it before PW4 arrives this week.

just a little thing to add to whoever is going to get AA4 following AA3, get into the game with open mind. it's a really good AA game, but if you're going into it expecting lots of connection with AA1-3, wanting to know what happened to old characters etc, you'll be very disappointed with AA4.
but as a stand alone, this is probably the most balanced AA games I've played. no case that stand out as the weakest cases which is usually case 3 in AA1-3 games. the sense of progression between case1 through 4 is excellent, none of it felt like filler episode imo

on another note, I really loved it when
Edgeworth got the Psych(o)locks on Larry again and just said screw it and dragged him into court
I just completed it last week and it's personally my overall fav. in the Ace Attorney series. (haven't played Apollo yet cause I can't find it anywhere) The last two cases in 1 were awesome, the last one in 2 was awesome...but overall, I liked every case in Trials and Tribulations except for "Recipe for Turnabout."
I really liked how everything tied up in the end though and such a sense of satisfaction when "you know who" finally got theirs. But yeah, it ended on something of a bittersweet note but I wasn't disappointed by it very much.

Yeah, the final two cases gave me chills when I played it.
is one of the best villains in the Ace Attorney universe.
