This is originally a 1998 game developed and published by Capcom for the Playstation, Windows, N64, Dreamcast and GameCube and in 2019 Capcom released an HD version, and today, well... Good luck finding another zombie, horror game.

Larger picture, this was my first time playing a Resident Evil game (previous played RE1, 5 & 7) insert RE2 to me this is a game with potential that keeps you on a short leash in today's open world renascence. There's a lot of time backtracking, you'll have to revisit locations and spending time on how important saving ammo is. Macho gamers who play COD will be in for a change. The game needed to cut time collecting parts for two hours.

The police station (where you start and almost die at every corner is way better than the mansion in RE1 and allows you to play more fast paced), and the Umbrella corp. labs are considered winners in horror game circles, and overall the locations themselves don't bother me, backtracking does but makes up with thriller zombie boss battles which put survival on full display, those battles are classic horror.

The worst part of Resident Evil 2 is the story, and it's plot thinking about it too much will give you a headache, Leon is the main character and is on a path of destruction so he can escape the city after everyone has turned into Zombies. It's that simple and complicated. You can collect notes (expect reading paragraphs) and you solve traditional puzzles to advance.

I like the confidence Leon shows and you get a rush whenever he gets attack by zombies, he feels like a real horror character but doesn't possess to much charm or uniqueness.

Leon is ready to kill.

RE2 Remake is no question a top horror game of all time, but I would say hardcore fans have overrated it.

Leon is cool, discovering Umbrella is amazing and I have a feeling RE4-6 will receive remakes.

A lot of Leon's personality got gutted for the remake and the dynamic with Ada got screwed with too. He's actually a far better character in the original. Same thing happened to Chris actually when they remade the first game. I dont know if I'd say top horror game of all time but it's easily the best thing Capcom has put out for the series in a long time.

I really enjoyed RE2 remake, but I did really miss the "Zap" system or whatever they called it from the original. When the O.G. came out my buddy at the time and I stayed up all night with his flipped upside down PS1 just soaking it all in. Great game. RE2 remake def. fits the spirit of the original but it cut a bunch of things that made it so great too. Glad it exists though, not such a purist that I'd trash it. Still have yet to play RE3 remake as it seems like not nearly the amount of effort was put into it as the RE2 Remake. Want to play it, but I'll wait for a good sale.

Remake 3 is great, just not worth the full asking price as they cut to much from the original and is minus 5 hours long. I think 3 is the better looking game aswell, has the best start to the whole series imo.

Just finished RE3 Remake an hour ago, and I honestly thought it was nearly as good as 2. It's shorter, simplified/dumber than 2 but it's also faster paced and more focused because of it.

It's got so little content though (especially compared to 2), that it's only worth it when on sale.

That was my take away from reviews/impression. I wanted to play it, but it seemed to not have nearly the amount of content as the original or even as much effort as RE2Make. I'll pick it up on a sale one day I'm sure. Hell, I've bought RE4 at least 6 or 7 times. I don't have the best will power all the time.

Yeah Capcom had done awesome with 2 Remake. Unfortunately for idk reasons they dropped the balls with 3 remake, which make it i don't have much expectation for 4 remake, Capcom gonna probably turn it into another 5 hours Hollywood horror game.

Quite shame for RE3 cause it could have been one of the best game ever made, idk why they chose to make it like that, if it's time, budget, or just to try to appeal to COD fans.

I await the day that Capcom remakes Code Veronica. I only hope that it turns out good.
CV is the one game that cant possibly get worse. Hell, just replacing classic Claire with REmake Claire would be enough to make it better.

Remake 2 is legit near gameplay perfection. Yes it changes things from the original and if it's that much of a deal breaker for you.....go play the original.

Remake 2 viewed on its own is just absolutely amazing. Capcom nailed it 100%.

It seems to me that with remakes, the tendency is to approach the game from a nostalgic perspective rather than a logical, “How good is this game by today’s standards?” metric.

So in some ways I agree you with you OP - I had never played RE2 and came into the Remake with fresh eyes - the puzzles and story feel really old and don’t hold up well today. The visuals, gameplay, and mechanics (which were revised heavily) were still really good. It was worth playing and I enjoyed it but I don’t see it as being a masterpiece by any stretch.
