LttP: Resident Evil 2

For real.

I wonder what happened to Carlos, and why he hasn't appeared on a new RE game.

He'll star in RE CG movie #7 I'm sure

On RE3:

"There was a hospital here, but it's gone now."

Precursor to holes in SH2?

That's right!!! SH2 also got the inspiration for Heaven's Night from Gun Survivor:

For real.

I wonder what happened to Carlos, and why he hasn't appeared on a new RE game.

According to BIO3's writer, Carlos escaped the U.S. through Mexico and lived in Chile or Colombia. If he didn't flee the country, he'd have been "recruited" by the Anti-Umbrella Pursuit and Investigation Team, who went after anyone with anti-B.O.W. experience. Chris and Jill being in Europe was also the only reason they escaped the agency's clutches. Leon and Barry on the other hand weren't as lucky and both of them were coerced into joining the agency. Leon through Sherry, and Barry through his family.

^^^ LOL :)

Playing as Carlos. It's raining on the road to the hospital. Attttttmosphere!

I dig that part! The hospital is a nice addition. I loved that they finally had one after playing Silent Hill 1's nasty hospital! They are very different styles, but the RE games needed a hospital in them.

OMG, post more from RE3! I'll pepper them throughout the future LttP.

that all I've got :(

if you want more intel about RE3

RE3 update: I'm at the factory. I went back to some earlier areas, from an earlier save, since I wanted to conserve resources. This game can be tough! Seems like it's a lot longer than RE2, as well, even though it's only one scenario.

All of the park was fantastic. The fountain puzzle, the boss battle, the piers and forest trails and sculpture gardens. The sound design and rain, too. So atmospheric. So cool!

Reading this brings back nostalgia! Man I wish they'd remake RE3 too!

A little tip on the upcoming boss battle. In the nearest boss battle, try using environmental traps as much as you can. You can defeat the boss with your guns, of course, but seeing the boss being damaged by those environmental traps is quite satisfying.

If you don't care about spoilers, here are details:
you will be fighting with Nemesis in a treatment room with faucets filled with some kind of acid. If you pour enough acid on Nemesis, he will eventually loose his head - literally :D

I don't mind reading that spoiler. In fact, that sounds fucking awesome!

But yeah, I'll have to play more tomorrow. Time to sleep now, lol.

If I can finish it tomorrow, please look for the LttP soon thereafter!

Neiteio, are you planning to do RE:CVX as well? Really enjoying your LTTPs and would be interested to see how you find it after playing the PS1 titles.

Still awake (I swear I'm going to bed soon), so I'll answer this!

I played the first 10 minutes of CVX (the HD version with the deep dark shadows!), and I quite liked it. My only concern is I hear the game gets really hard! I'm not afraid of hard games (I'm a Souls fan), but I just hope it's relatively fair and balanced.

Either way, I think I'll check it out. I really liked the CV scenario in Darkside Chronicles. The prison island in the first half has a nice contrast of warmth and cold — warm, when you're inside the Ashfords' mansion, and cold when you're out in the drizzly rain!

It depends: if you play with a guide, you will probably manage to do it. If you go totally blind, you will have problems. Major problems with the game:

-you don't know you will switch characters. The bad thing is, the second character WILL use the stuff you obtained with the first one. If you have not enough ammo, you are screwed. You will find a lot of ammo with Chris, but mostly trash ones (I mean, who uses the main pistol with Chris? It's plenty of Hunters, poison Hunters etc, ammo for your pistol are mainly useless, while you won't find good ammo for your grenade launcher).
-bosses coming out of nowhere. Like, you beat a boss with one character, you are forced into another fight with a boss some seconds later. If you are not prepared, it's game-over
-you can't really avoid taking damage in some situations. The game too often after cutscenes leave you in a bad position surrounded by zombies: managing to go away with no scratches is almost impossible (ie the graveyard section).
-to gain the strongest weapon of the game, you need to carry over an apparently useless item from the beginning of the game
-too many enemies can poison you. Like moth. There's a room with respawning moths later in the game. You need to kill them everytime you pass here, or they will poison you. Yes, there's a blue herb in the very same room, but moths can plant eggs on you, and those eggs will poison you later after one room or two, forcing you to backtrack to the moth room with blue herbs, and killing moths again, wasting your ammo.
-the plot is trash:
Claire goes to search for Chris. He is captured. Later she will send a mail to Leon. Leon will send a mail to Chris. Chris will reach Rockford Island to find Claire. With no hints at all, he will find Claire on Antarctic too. The two rejoin. So why Claire went to look for his brother while simply sending a mail to Leon granted her to accomplish the achievement she was trying to score between two games (RE2 and CV)? This is just stupid, lol.

CV is one of my favourite RE game, but it has a lot of issues compared to other RE games. It's like devs want to artificially screw you in several situation.

I don't mean to sound rude or anything like it but I think that's the "wrong" way to play these games.

I know you like Souls games so maybe you get that "push forward untill I die/see what's ahead" approach but I believe the RE games shouldn't be meant to be played that way. There's enough ammo/herbs in the games to be left on boxes and get it back if you need it later.

That being said, C: VX can be hard but not impossible if you go in blind. Specilly if you learn to use the knife.

This thread deserves some High Res RE3 backgrounds from the GC version:

Hyllian how do you add your Super-4x-BR to ePSXe?

I would love to replace the Texture Filtering in the OGL2 plugin or OGL2 Tweaks with that!

In fact really I'd love to see it in all emulators as an optional texture filter, that shit is god-tier!

It was my mistake before, only Retroarch supports it. ePSXe supports jinc2-sharper-3d shader, though. Super-xbr can't work with ePSXe, because it doesn't support multipass shaders.

Damn, that's interesting. I really hope they bring him back for a game.

Why did RE3 run at 480p on GC while RE2 was at 240? That seems like a waste.

Just bumping this because I've been thinking of RE2 lately (and RE3 — LttP here), and it reminded me that, hey, Capcom is working on a remake of this game!

It's been deep in development now for, what, a couple of years, right? It's probably ready to show at E3, I'd imagine. What do you think?

Also, chances of an RE3 remake afterward? To be honest, I think I like RE3 even more. But I really see these two games as sister titles — part of a larger whole.

I'm hoping to see it at E3.

If REmake 2 sells in the 2-3m region, then they'll probably consider remaking 3. It's a popular game and Nemesis is iconic enough to carry it.

Capcom created 480i assets for the PC version of RE3, and kept them. They didn't do the same for RE2.

I hope they show something. Whatever it is, I'll be happy to get back into Racoon City.

Taking it back to some of the points you made when you were LTTPing, did you ever play the Outbreak games? You enjoyed the city streets and some of the areas like the hospital, and those games add even more to Racoon and expand upon places you've been to. Some expansions they made, with spoiler tags just in case:
Hospital: you go to pretty much every floor you didn't go to in 3, including the roof and basement
Police station: you get between areas in ways that you couldn't in 2/3, like the car park and the outside front
RE2 lab: You work backwards starting at the train track, again going to floors you didn't go in 2 (and some you did) before ending with a boss fight in the big open area at the Marshalling Yard
If you don't play them, it might be worth watching a Long/Let's Play if you're curious. I really hope they re-releas those games. Co-op online classic RE? It was so much fun.

Another small point I never see mentioned but for me I enjoy is that in the Resident Evil 2 demo that came with the Director's Cut of 1. When you're at the back of Kendo's gun shop and you go past the basketball court, you simply climb over a crate and move into a later part of the intro area. It makes sense in the layout of the world, too. You might not find that interesting at all, and maybe it's just me that likes the puzzle of the Racoon City streets this much.

Side note: I just found a music track I'd never noticed before that isn't in the final release, you might enjoy it: https://youtu.be/dkYkuBUcJz0

That's really neat about Outbreak revisiting areas from the main trilogy, SixFourMike. When you go to RE3's hospital in Outbreak, are the floors you revisit the same layout as they were in RE3?

There's some retconning. The fountain statue in the RPD hall has an impossible route, and they put in an extra room in Birkin's lab using a door outside RE2's camera POV.

Resident Evil 0 also has a brief visit to the labs and train turntable.

It was announced in like August of 2015 so we're creeping up on the two-year mark. Though it's possible that we'll see it at E3, I'd say perhaps TGS in September is a safer bet. As for 3, anything's possible if 2 sells well.
