Recently watched it too (never really cared about Star Trek but there was decent hype for Into Darkness and I was curious), and I thought it was pretty fun. I really like Chris Pine.

To me this is amazing, if it wasn't for the enemy and the amazing graphics of Into Darkness I would say this one is actually better.

Yeah, Into Darkness had a lot to compete with this movie; but I think the simpler plot of the first one trumps it. It makes it more enjoyable, even if it was not as elaborate or nuanced.

I hear the Beastie Boys and I see a girl covered in green paint. And then there's that scene with Thor and the weepy Giacchino theme.
