Lttp: The Last of Us

I missed the PS3 this time around and this game is one of the reasons I am bummed about no backwards compatibility, because I will be getting a PS4. I'm hoping the Gaikai streaming thing works out so I can actually play this someday. There are some other PS3 games I would like to also check out (Uncharted, maybe God of War), but this one is the one I feel most like I 'missed'

Willing to bet my life on a PS4 version with all DLC. Don't worry. Would be a huge missed opportunity not to port this up.
 
This is probably my game of the year and is definitely now one of my favorite games of all time. The game does a phenomenal job of creating a mood, and the world feels real.

However, I have not gone back to it since completing it because I am worried it won't seem as good as it did the first time through. Can anyone speak to this - does the game hold up on repeated playthroughs?

2nd play through was still awesome.

Played it 4 times and it does hold up pretty well. The only things that really bothered me a bit in the long run are some KI errors. If they could improve the KI in a remake/sequel, th game would be nearly flawless.

Differs from person to person of course, but I still enjoy playing through it now, and I got all single player trophies available for that game a long time ago. I play very conservatively on the first playthrough, so I have a lot of fun experimenting and using items and ammo I used to hoard before. You're also bound to discover at least a few new things in your second and third playthrough as well.
 
I know a lot of people here will not agree, but if you loved the synergy and incredible voice acting in The Last of Us, go and try BioShock Infinite as well (Troy Baker, the voice of Joel is the protagonist there as well, though you probably wouldn't have guessed it). Even though I'm liking GTA V a lot more than I expected (and I was expecting it to be GOOD), BioShock Infinite is still my #2 this year (and would have been my #1 last year) with TLoU being the #1.

The multiplayer does require skill more than anything else, but the matchmaking is set up so that you will be added to a party of similarly experienced players, so it shouldn't be a problem. I'd recommend playing Scavenger Hunt mode at the beginning, and not worrying how you do, just try to have fun.

It was fun, but the combat got boring very fast for me much like uncharted 1/2 did (haven't played 3). The characters and dialogue was very, very good and the graphics were superb. The story wasn't really intriguing though, and never did much of anything for me. A solid game that by the last 2 or so hours, I just wanted it to end. At least the game's plot at the end didn't fall to shit like so many games. In my top 5 of the year for sure.

I enjoyed BI as well, but the dialogue/acting in B:I wasn't as good as LoU. The overall story and path the character takes is more intriguiging to me than LoU, however. The combat is so different, that I can't really compare them very well, as they scratch different itches. I wanted to like LoU's more, but I think I ended up liking B:Is--though I could easily see anyone preferring LoU's.
 
Personal GOTG for me so far. Absolutely amazing game and an incredible story (winter man, soooooooo good)

GTA V is great but I don't think there has been a game that has had me engrossed like TLoU from start to finish.

I will be hopping into multiplayer soon. I have heard good things
 
The games start strong, then gets progressively better. The final section is simply mind blowing.

The character's are awesome, the story is awesome, the dialog is awesome, the gameplay is awesome and the attention to the details is absurd.

Even though it's not the game I've enjoyed the most this gen, It's still my pick as GOTG.

I love the mechanics. Also, during combat when you're beating the crap out of someone just feels amazing. And when you get hit with a bullet, I love how you fall back onto the ground and the rumble effect on the controller is perfect.
 
My game of the year and I had to borrow a ps3 to play it. Had more impact than any game I have played in years c

That's actually pretty good for GAF. Usually we get LTTP threads for major releases about a month to six weeks after release.

I started replaying this again over the weekend (also after experiencing GTAV) and it totally reaffirmed the notion to me that it is my personal GOTY and quite possibly my GOTG. Naughty Dog's mo cap tech, and facial animation is just simply jaw dropping compared to anything else out there.
 
I finished GTA V on saturday, and this game remains my GOTY by a margin. Incredible game and maybe ND's finest work, its worth owning a PS3 worth.

Its probably really cliche to say, but it just looks so fucking good in HD. It really does look like a next generation title graphically but its on a current gen console.

overall good game.
The fourth of this kind for ND...missing their ps2 game design ambition.
I blame sony for this (even more if rumors are true)

I would recommend also playing a no respawn game every now and then to see how good players play. If you die, you get the time to just spectate and you can learn quite a lot this way. Especially how to move through the maps, the level layout itself, how they use their weapons, etc.

That said, haven't played MP since launch thanks to that stupid save bug.. and kinda forgot about the multiplayer, but I could see it was quality and definitey a unique concept among all the other MP games with guns. I'm just waiting for SOCOM to die to jump into TLoU MP again.

I agree with your assessment of both games. For me, TLoU doesn't hold up to a second playthrough. I've tried, got bored, and quit several times. It's a one-and-done game to me, and, for that reason alone, it cannot be my GOTY. Still, I agree with you that it's a great game that pushes cinematic narratives to a whole new level in terms of polish, presentation, and cohesion.

Loved your screenshots of the game man!

Game of the generation for me, easily. I will wait a few years and give it at least 2 more playthroughs separated by some significant time before I consider its position on the games of my life list, but for now let's just say FF VII, MGS and Diablo 2 aren't feeling as safe as they were when I was impressed by other games this gen.

Well, State of Decay, Puppeteer, Rayman Legends, Zeno Clash 2.

GoTY is of course something that is subjective and will forever be debated, but TLoU won't be anywhere near my top 5 games of the year. It's good, great even, but there are games that that I've long dreamt about and thought would never come to pass actually seen a release and been better than I ever could have imagined.

2012 and this would, without question, be in my top three GoTY...2013 and it has to make do with being in my top ten.

Really good game. Not GOTY for me though, that title goes to Bioshock Infinite. Booker and Elizabeth had a bigger emotional impact on me than Joel and Ellie.
 
TLOU is an excellent game. (as is GTAV)

I honestly hope for more new IP's from Naughty Dog and not to get stuck into doing more Uncharteds.
