LTTP: Vanquish

Runs pretty damn good if not 60fps that is for sure. I have both versions and have to admit I preferred the 360 copy as it seemingly ran better? However, the PS3 version was nowhere near the poor quality of the Bayonetta port.

I just played through it once on both systems for the fun game play. I am not skilled enough to fudge with them challenges though! I envy those guys skills!

Actually, it's the PS3 version that runs better.

I need to replay this soon, incredible game.

Probably the best 3rd person shooter last gen, nothing else was as engaging as it.It kind of reminded me of Alien Soldier, but in the 3D, I'd like to see a sequel, but I don't see that happening.

Good game but it's definitely one of Platinum's weaker efforts imo. If for nothing else for the ridiculous play time on offer. Really insubstantial experience compared to the likes of Bayonetta.

aaaaand there it is. Those Challenge maps are a kick in the balls.

I remember feeling like it was too easy to stay behind cover and play safe even on hard mode. For me there wasn't much motivation to really get out there and wreak havoc beyond just messing around. I also remember the weapon upgrade system feeling backwards, like I had to switch to a different weapon to get stronger.

The main problem for me was that there was no system in place to encourage playing to the best of my ability. Yeah, I could toss a grenade and slow down time and blow it up and all this other cool stuff but I didn't see any reason to. So I can see this game being really great if you like to push yourself and try as many things as possible for the sake of experimentation, but I was so trained on old action games to focus on fundamental strategy and repetition that I didn't see 90% of the "fluff" that the game had to offer. Maybe this game is more like a playground, but I treated it as a life-or-death, no failure allowed type game, so it was pretty boring.

Yeah, I can get behind this. I still think Vanquish is an absolutely excellent game and one of the best in its genre - but there's absolutely no doubt that hard mode isn't as challenging as it should be, and it doesn't go far enough in ensuring that the player can't turtle up and rely on defensive strategies. (God Hard mode is great but it would be nice for there to be a mode between it and hard.) Vanquish definitely only really shines when you push yourself to play offensively, and that the game doesn't force you into that is a weakness.

Yo...this game is fucking awesome. I can't believe they achieved bullet-hell in 3D while still being completely playable.

Only downside is the writing being total dude-bro to the point of pastiche, and the standard red enemies being overused.

I am so glad I decided to squeeze this game in before MGSV. Best Platinum game I've played for sure.

Generic story and characters saved by an outstanding gameplay.

That's how I feel about every Platinum game. If they just got better writers and cutscene directors they would be in the 9.5 area for sure.

For Vanquish I would give a 9.0 because I don't think there's a single TPS that comes close to what it is doing. Whereas, as great as Bayo and Rising are, I think there are comparable character-action games from other studios.

Believe it or not, there is one 3rd person shooter that I feel like is on Vanquish's level from a control standpoint: Splatoon.

The final boss of Splatoon showed that the game could've been a high-octane affair on the same level as Vanquish. Too bad the stages went for more of a platformer route. However, the foundation is there. And the multiplayer is pretty cool too (although I'm less into it than some people).

I enjoyed Vanquish for 2 plays and some extra cleanup. Didn't bother with getting all the achievements but was a solid game.

So you are asking for Splatoon 2 or a Splatoon spin-off by Platinum Games ?

The jetpack in Vanquish could be changed by a ink jetpack and I guess it would work.

Was such a pleasant surprise for me, OP. I got it via PS+ sub and didn't pay it much attention until I kept hearing it referenced here and elsewhere. The first boss brutalized me again and again until I wrapped my head around the controls and pacing of combat and then it was just about the most awesome dumb thing I had played in years. I really loved that game and even raged my way through (eventually) all the trials for the plat. One of my favorite games of last gen.

You didn't get the Memo OP?
Anyone who beats challenge 6 (and platinums Vanquish) signs a spiritual oath that makes us gaming buds.

If you have PSN Add me Zy--
I would love to see that Challenge 6 trophy :)

Welcome to the club :)
You too, add me !
don't let the that spiritual oath go in vain. Blessed Molu_JPN and Venchiro :)

This game along with Bayonetta is a real fucker. Those two took me about two years to finish because they kept giving me headaches for some reason.

Loved every minute of it.

This game is FUCKING EPIC!!!
The only bad think is the multiplayer, but the single... Jesus. The gameplay is so fast.

It was pretty funny to play, MORE THAN GEARS OF WAR if you ask me.

This game is a shining example of a perfect 7.5 game.

the gameplay... ooohhh doctor the gameplay is amazing. The controls are simple, but amazingly elegant.

Does not compute.

Vanquish is definitely fairly high on my personal list of all-time favorites. Such a buttery-smooth experience.

This game has had multiple RTTP and LTTP threads, so instead of starting a new one I figured I would just bump the latest LTTP one.

I played the first 45 minutes or so of it before, but lost my save when my previous ps3 died. I then got into different games and didn't bother returning to this. That was about 6 years ago, I'd say.

Getting back into it now. So crazy I still have not finished this. I love crazy Japanese games. The tech in this game is quite amazing too. All the crazy shit happening without any major hits to frame rate. I don't think it is 60fps, but they use motion blur so well that it feels like it could be.

I believe I am at the Act 1 boss. I hope the game is short and I can just rush through it quickly and finely say I finished it. This should not have been in my backlog for this long!!

Vanquish is probably my favorite pure action game of all time. It just feels so good to play.
Oh hello bump. I still stand by this statement today ^

P.S. it's 30fps, but a good feeling 30fps. Not every game needs to be 60 to feel good. Halo feels good at 30.

So does Metal Slug. Everyone agrees that MS has some of the best animation out there... but it's only 30fps.

So yea, real late but I just beat Vanquish.
This game has a lot going for it and a lot to improve. The sliding fast combat is awesome but it could really use a more RPG type upgrade system and more varied combat.

You end up sticking with the guns you liked cause they're the ones you upgrading and ignoring other pick ups. It got pretty stale about half way through the game which is saying a lot since I beat it just under 6 hours of mission time.

I'd recommend it for cheap to play half of though.
