Ok, I'm back. Picked up a used component cable for $10, official one. Mario Galaxy for $16 and Twilight Princess for $15.
Good. Though don't know if to recommend playing Twilight Princess first and then Mario Galaxy. Both games are great, with Galaxy been just pure awesome..but Galaxy also looks so incredible, while Twilight Princess looks...not as incredible. But guess that will depend on your set too.

Remember to go to the Options of the Wii and change it to 16:9 and 480p; though in some sets it looks better at 4:3 and 480p (since at 16:9 the pixels are stretched).

And yep, A Boy and his Blob is awesome and looks pretty too; so get that too.

If you like racing games, Need for Speed Nitro looks and plays pretty nice.

2012 version should be the most refined. I saw it at Fry's for like $20 new last weekend. I was tempted to get it even though I already have 2011.
Cool. I'll probably do a bit of research on it.

Speaking of soccer....man, Champions League games on now, but I want to play my new Wii! Aaaargh. Thank god for DVR.

Get this

I only own the firs PES and PES2010.

The advantage since 2009 is that you can play with a classic controller if you don't like the wii system, and Master League. Actually I rather play the other mode, but that's because I am not a fan of real life soccer and I don't know about players.

Get Sin and Punishment 2.

Both No More Heroes games if you like wacky and strange Japanese action games.
both of these, and muramasa: the demon blade.

wiiware is awesome too, especially if you want to play old school SNES games. It'll probably be worth looking into how to softmod your Wii too since you could purchase and play import titles.

No one has recommended a party game yet? Excellent! I'd like to take this opportunity to pimp Go Vacation.

It's a sort-of open world game. There are four different resorts you can move around. Two are decent, one sucks, one is amazing. There are about 50 (!) mini-games for you to find between all the different resorts, including Batting Practice, Whack-a-mole, Scuba diving (very well done) and probably one of the best swordfighting minigames on the console. Plus, you can get your own villa and decorate it with furniture that you get from being good at mini-games. It's like Animal Crossing, more or less.

The game's not perfect, of course. Walking speed is really slow and the vehicles require you to turn the remote to steer. For what it is, though, it's really one of the best mini-game collections available. Did I mention it's made by the Ridge Racer team? It is! You can tell from the Ridge Racer minigame which reuses sound effects and everything. You could probably find it cheap. I got it at Gamestop for $30 shortly after release; it's probably even less now.

100 points = 1 dollar
So, IIRC Nes/MasterSystem are 500 points ($5) Snes/Genesis are 800 points ($8) and N64 are 1000 points ($10).

The wii has 512Mb storage memory, if you only get VC games it should be enough.

256MB of user storage. Some of the N64 and TurboCD titles will fill it up real fast, but it's ok for most of the 8-16 bit games. If you buy any WiiWare stuff at all you will need an SD card asap.

Get the Nintendo Component cables, some versions of 3rd party ones have color/pixel loss issues.

I would recommend CCPro over the standard one.

For non nintendo games, Muramasa the Demon blade,House of the dead over kill, No more heros are worth while.

I own three pairs of third party component cables including the ultra cheap ones on amazon and I have not had ANY issues whatsoever.

Nitro looks very nice but doesn't drive very well imo, kinda like a failed Outrun 2 x Burnout. Shame they didn't use the engine and style for a more fully featured and better made game. There are better racing games on other systems he owns, no reason to get one that isn't particularly unique for Wii instead. Imo.

I thought the driving was the best part lol.

Kororinpa and its sequel, Marble Saga Kororinpa, are some of the best games this gen. They represents arcade platform gaming in its purest form -- you're simply given a marble which you have to roll through a series of obstacles into a goal while collecting crystals along the way, a task which often requires extreme amounts of precision and which is only made possible by the fact that they have among the tightest controls of any game ever made. The level designs take full advantage of this in a number of creative ways, including levels which force you to keep the remote tilted at 90 degree angles to turn walls into floors that you can continue your marble's path onto. The first game is pretty short, but the sequel is quite long with 348 unique levels, and both games feature time trials which will keep you occupied for dozens of hours if you plan on collecting the highest trophy in each level.

Sold. Looks awesome and just what I wanted. Something to goof around in with friends.

I kinda want this like right now, actually. Imma call some places.

I'm also seeing little recommendation for Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Which is actually a very decent fighter exclusive to the system. The wii seems somewhat passed over in that genre, yet it has a very good Vs game.

But Nitro is unique for the Wii (Nitro was only released on DS and Wii; then a version was released on iOS and digital DSiWare), DS version was done by a different developer while Wii version was done internally by EA. In fact, many reviewers deducted points because the same year, they announced/released Shift on the other "HD consoles" and announced 'World" all looking and playing more "realistic"; while the Wii version played more like arcade-racers and looked more colorful and cartoony.

Nitro controls technically like Ridge Racer. Where it's about arcade-like handling, drifting to get speed and pass others, bumping into other cars/scenery bumps you back a little and staying behind (slipstream) gives you more speed.

Plus the city been painted with your colors/graffiti if you're in first place was nice.

Too bad the game lacks online, since it was the best way to "show" that whole graffiti thing.

Control variety was also a nice touch. You can play it only with a Wii Remote in one hand, sideways (i.e. like Mario Kart Wii), Classic Controller and GameCube controller. And car customization was cool too.

Awesome video! XD

To little mention of Excite Truck in this thread. Should be dirt cheap by now and it's quite a great arcade racing game, due to it's jump/flight combo mechanics and motion controlling.

Silent Hill is very overlooked. Loved it, even though you should not expect it to be anything like the other entries of the series.

Muramasa is also cool, even though for graphics alone.

Other than that, usual Nintendo suspects (and there's plenty). I've only gotten Lostwinds (2) on WiiWare, which I very much enjoyed. Like a light Metroidvania with relaxing atmosphere and beautiful looks. Oh, and Contra Rebirth, which is good if you're into the classic series. (I guess Castlevania Rebirth should be okay too)

Yessss! If you don't already, be sure to have a couple of Motionplus devices or controllers. They'll make Tennis better, and you can't play Swordfighting or Pitching practice and some other games without it. You'll need one for Zelda, anyway. Did I mention you can explore the resorts to find treasure and get achievements and stuff? It's really great. Just don't expect a flawless game and you'll love it.

Also, if you find you like the Scuba Diving minigame, I'm sure Endless Ocean has been recommended in here. Being a Fire Emblem fan, I recommend you don't start off with FE: Radiant Dawn, because it's probably too hard for a first-timer. Super Paper Mario is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. It's a fun little platformer with a great sense of humor. World of Goo on WiiWare seemed to be a hit with my friends. It's like if Dr. Seuss made a video game. Bully: Scholarship Edition is a great open-world game, like GTA set in a private school. You can pull fire alarms and give wedgies and whatnot. And Kirby's Return to Dreamland should be self-explanatory. Great game. I heard Red Steel 2 was a solid shooter, as well.

I loved the Resident Evil Chronicles games.

I loved HOTD 2 & 3 Return

HOTD Overkill is garbage though.

The Wii was a great system. It had a lot of the types of games I liked.

You want Jrpgs ?
Zeldas are already on your list and I guess that with Xenoblade you already know about Last Story... so...

If you are after party games check out Fortune Street (Boom Street in PAL land). It's a spin on monopoly that somehow makes that boring as fuck game into something compelling [spoilers]- it probably helps that the game actually ends[/spoilers].
Avoid Mario Party 9 like the plague, the game is boring as fuck. Who seriously thought it's a good idea to make everyone move together in a board game...

Seriously, if you want to get into Fire Emblem, start with the Gamecube title or the GBA titles. Or even the DS game. Radiant Dawn isn't really beginner-friendly.

Alrighty.

I'll be getting Go Vacation, Resident Evil 4, Fishing Resort and Tiger Woods 2010 and I'll be good for a while, I think. Has me covered for single-player and multiplayer, serious and casual.

Definites down the line:

- Galaxy 2
- Skyward Sword
- The Last Story
- Monster Hunter Tri(maybe sooner just for the controller)
- A Boy and his Blob
- Endless Ocean 2
- A Little King's Story
- Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

VC must-haves:

- Final Fantasy VI
- Secret of Mana
- Zombies Ate My Neighbors
- Zelda: A Link to the Past
- Zelda: Ocarina of Time
- Zelda: Majora's Mask
- Super Mario World
- Super Mario RPG
- Paper Mario(still only played M&L's Inside Story on DS in the series)

Maybes down the line:

- Super Paper Mario
- Dead Space Extraction
- Bully: Scholarship Edition
- de Blob
- Okami
- Kirby's Epic Yarn
- Punch Out!
- Wii Party(depending on how good Go Vacation is)
- Bit.Trip. Complete
- Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbados' Treasure
- WarioWare
- World of Goo

I think I'll skip on most of the proper sports games, cuz it doesn't sound like they really offer anything much better than I can get on the Xbox360(apart from Tiger Woods). All the other JRPG's look interesting, but I'm really in the market for something truly great. Something I can look back on in 10 years and be like, "Damn, that was a great game, I want to play it again." I'm good on shooters for the most part with my 360 so those games didn't interest me too much. And without a friend thats into them as well, fighting games bore me fairly quickly.

I'm sure some others might catch my eye later on depending on my mood or whatever, but I think I'm pretty damn set for the next few years between my Wii and my Xbox360. Soooooo much to play. Thanks for all the help and recommendations guys.
