Madworld 2 not out of the Question

Via CVG:

Shigenori Nishikawa, the director of Madworld, has told Official Nintendo Magazine that Platinum Games would be interested in making a sequel to Madworld.

"I think MadWorld was very well received and was acknowledged for its innovative graphical style and gameplay. We would definitely be interested in making a sequel in the future," he said.

Describing the Wii as "a very well-balanced piece of hardware," Nishikawa clearly likes the idea of making more mature games for the console even if that would appear to go against a statement from a Sega development director last week.

Sega of America's Constantine Hantzopoulos said "are we going to do more mature titles for the Wii? Probably not." Finger's crossed he's wrong.

You can read the full interview with Shigenori Nishikawa in issue 51 of Official Nintendo Magazine which goes on sale on Friday.

I enjoyed the first game, but it was in many ways very basic. I'd love to see how Platinum Games would embellish the game should they return to the franchise.

That being said, I'd probably prefer PG to mostly avoid sequels altogether.

If there is a sequel, it better be 480p. God knows how many of my friends had to hook up their Wii to "old faithful" so that lag wasn't an issue.

I fucking hope so--MadWorld was so awesome. And, unexpectedly, it had a very interesting story that I would like to see more of...

MATSUNOOOOO!

Man, I hope so. I loved the original, despite its flaws which could be fixed in a sequel.

Exactly this. I'd be interested to see how they extend some of the enjoyable parts of the first and then fix the problems it had.

madworld was a completely under-appreciated, original, fun -- but also misunderstood -- game that deserves a sequel that expands on it.

it had so many great moments from a general creativity standpoint, boss design standpoint and level design standpoint. it's a shame that it fell victim to the mundane objectives that the player was presented with.

I'm glad to see Shigenori Nishikawa has his head screw on.

Anyone who thought this game would have performed better than it did really didn't study the market properly. The main audience for Mad World is that same audience that was put off when the few technical hiccups were revealed (480i in NTSC/50Hz in PALland).

A sequel could address the issues of the first game, but where can it really go? We've seen the violent finishers and heard the witty commentary. MadWorld, I feel, is best left as a one off title.

I can't even bring myself to play the first one past the first stage, because it seems boring and incredibly shallow. Thats not to mention the fact I can't read anything on the fucking screen and THE BORDERS. Its absolutely shocking that Sega never issued a public apology for the PAL release, its probably the worst continental version of a video game I've ever played.

I consider this game the first bum note the Clover/Platinum squad have accrued and the sequel would have to be Zone of Enders 2 levels of improvement to have me care.

if they studied the market properly, this game would never have been released for Wii. Luckily, they didn't and, as a result, I got to play a game with awesome Wii functionality.

I'd love to see it get a sequel, but if one appears I doubt it will be on the Wii. Perhaps instead a download title for LIVE and PSN.

Didn't like the first one as much as I thought I would. Its still a good game but I can't say I'm that much excited for a sequel.

Did Platinum ever say WHY they left out 480p?
No idea, but IMO it's inexcusable. Not just for Madworld mind you, but for any current-gen console game (I'm looking at you too Rayman Raving Rabbids).

Expand on the comedy commentators, please! Such a good idea that helped alleviate the repetition tremendously for me.

I'm conflicted. More decent 3rd party support is always good, but I'm not sure another straight brawler would be the best choice. There are other more pressing genre gaps I'd rather see addressed.

TBH, I felt that the comedy commentators added to the repetition. There was a decent variety of (funny) material, but it was just used so frequently that you often ended up with lines repeated every ten seconds.

I really liked the first game. I imagine I'll love a sequel. It'll probably sell much better too. Hopefully NMH2 sells significantly better than the original and it makes Sega and Platinum Games seriously consider the possibility of a Madworld 2.

Any sequel must have the happy free friends team + Greg Proops and John DiMaggio + Chris Wilkes on soundtrack. Must. Required.

i hope they do this along with a jet set radio game

and i hope they keep Constantine Hantzopoulos far far away from any decision making, if it was down to that twat the wii would have even less third party support

I enjoyed it, but they need to make it more of an action game with the same mechanics through levels instead of "beat up guys in this area to get X amount of points, etc".

Also if they want it to sell, get rid of the black & white.

Enjoyed No More Heroes a lot more, personally.

Enjoyed the first but felt there could be something more. Some deeper gameplay. I would buy a sequel if they made one.

i don't think this is a rational reply.

I agree. The environmental kills and stuff were fine, but I felt like Jack's actual fighting moves were very very limited.

Constantine Hantzopoulos is not a in a posisiton to greenlight any title. Another example of bad video game reporting!

This is a flame bait statement isnt it?

No? How so? I'd happily pay for a solid MadWorld sequel on the Wii, but if a MadWorld sequel comes along (which I dont think will happen, mind you), I could see them sticking to the low-key brawler style formula, cut dev costs, and put it on LIVE and PSN.

the game needed to fight back and not give you the great wall of china for a health bar. that would be a good start.

Why they keep spreading that Constantine Whatever made-up shit?

Last July (Gary Dunn), September (Mike Hayes) and this week (James Rebours), bigger SEGA execs said exactly the opposite, and giving much more precise comparison data from the Wii side of things than this "b-buttt... Dead Space did so bad!" bs.

In the original ONM entry, you find no Constantshit.

On topic: I'd love Platinum to extend their original ideas for Madworld, specially the multiplayer one... and a possible WM+ support.

Because CVG wants to continue the story that content doesn't sell on the Wii. They didn't do any reporting, they didn't listen to the 4 guys 1up podcast, they read the thread on GAF.

Innovative gameplay? Not really.

Needs more in-depth gameplay and a somewhat competent PAL version. MW's PAL conversion is absolutely horrible.
