Mafia 3 PC performance thread

Looking forward to macks "Is it worth a buy" for this one it should be gold....

Think I'll get Gears instead I refuse to buy and support publishers and devs who ignore the PC gaming community and treat us like an afterthought.

I just tried with 4xDSR on my 2560x1080 display. The main menu was horribly disfigured with cut off menu choices to the right and distorted graphics. There was no mouse pointer initially, but it got activated after setting the active screen area and the brightness with keyboard presses. It was so bad that I got discouraged from going past the menu and starting the game.
 
Apparently the 60fps patch is due next week/weekend according to the AngryJoe stream where he's been chatting with a 2k rep...

Take with a grain of salt though, I Zoned out of the stream, so I'm not sure if he was still talking to the 2k rep

Edit - he just restated that as confirmation from them so it seems legit, although this time he said "next week" "or as soon as possible"
 
Just tried the first mission, it's not that bad. The lock is in of course but the game is really smooth, it may be that I'm using GSync but I never felt 30fps so smooth on PC.

It's definitely playable in my opinion, it will be hard to stay away from the game waiting for patches to come. I think I'll just go with the 30fps lock.

Gsync flat out doesn't work at 30 FPS, so it's not that.

I am not an expert, but gsync should not really help in a 30 fps locked game?

Let's hope it's true and they patch it as soon as possible.

This kinda ruined my weekend plans.
 
Just for comparison's sake, I went back and reinstalled Mafia II to compare what that looked like.

To be honest, Mafia II is quite blurry too - although I think the overall IQ is still better than the PC version of III so far. The options are actually pretty thin for Mafia II, the only AA option is "on" or "off" and from the looks of this it's just FXAA. Still, it runs at 60fps just fine!

Have you played Mafia III? The video options are bare bones as well. Consist of high medium low, etc. and that's on custom .
 
Well, I just tried on my FHD TV and god it looks bad. I will stick with my 1440p monitor.

There's no way this is rendering at native resolution, it's even worse than QB.

The resolution doesn't look right and it's blurry as heck, although I will say I'm fairly impressed with the way the light is interacting with that woman on the left's hair!

Not yet - was considering using a VPN but I might just wait at this point tbh.
 
They seriously need to just start speaking for themselves instead of having streamers play the middle man for them

They should have been the ones to confirm the 30FPS lock before release...not streamers/reviewers after it was out

They should have been the ones to confirm it would be fixed/patched...not TotalBiscuit on Twitter

They should have been the ones to give a time frame on the patch (like they promised to)...not AngryJoe on a stream

It's like complete amateur hour over there now

ASAP. That's good they're not waiting on it, the sooner the better. Those Steam reviews are menacing.

This is so true - why are they letting streamers speak for them? Confirming statements before they do their official write ups? Really unprofessional.
 
Does anyone know which file the keybinds are saved in?

I tried changing a few which stopped them working and i can't find an option to reset back to defaults.
 
Is the renderer broken? It really looks like a 720p game. Kinda like Dark Souls back when it was first time released on PC.

It is really distracting. I can handle 30fps, but the look is going to be hard to handle. Too many post processing effects and a bad AA implentation. Game seems good otherwise...

None of those screens have any Chromatic Aberration.

WTF is it with these developers sticking CA at the last minute, even after all their official media has been released. Grrr.
 
So I'm guessing this is what that one poster was trying to say on the sly when he said either Mafia 3 or Gears of War would be broken in the "are you ready for Mafia 3 thread".
 
I'm not getting any button prompts when using a controller, this fucking gaaaaaaaaaame.
Using a Dualshock 4 connected to steam link, which emulates it as a 360 controller. Don't know what the issue is. Seems several other people have the same problem.
 
Played for over an hour and it's good besides the 30 fps lock. Though there was a lot of stuttering with vsync on and crazy screen tearing with vsync off. So I used Adaptive vsync and screen tearing got a bit better. Gonna try fast vsync tomorrow, maybe that eliminates it completely. Game looks great imo

We currently have a patch running here at the studio that includes 30, 60, and unlimited frames-per-second options in the video menu, among other improvements for the PC version of Mafia III. We’re verifying the patch now to ensure everything is working as expected. If everything goes well, we expect the update to go live this weekend. We will be keeping the PC community up-to-date on the status of the patch throughout the weekend and thank you for all the feedback!

It's good to see a possible fast fix for this 30FPS lock issue (maybe some others?...will wait and see)

But I am suspicious as to why it shipped like this in the first place if the fix was this quick to fix apparently...just really odd all the way around...will wait and see if this patch also addresses the UI scaling, possible non-native rendering, etc or if that will get fixed down the line

Maybe they uploaded the wrong branch and the patch they are working on is really a save compatibility patch between the real 1.0 version and the version they uploaded? lol

I had the exact same experience. Performance is best with adaptive, but it doesn't eliminate the tearing completely. Fast is probably what I'm going to go with, the stutter is definitely lessened a bit.

I feel like if they uploaded the wrong branch they would have said so to save themselves from the flames. Feels like the devs knew that shit wasn't ready but execs wouldn't let them delay it even a little bit so they started working on a patch.

I just don't understand why they'd release the game in such a poor state if a fix is so quick and easy to implement, they could have saved themselves all this hate and bad press and they wouldn't have killed the hype for the game. Bizarre situation all around.

It'll be interesting to see how the game runs on good hardware, will it be a total shit show ala Batman where 60fps without dips is impossible no matter how much money you throw at your PC or will it run stable on a wide variety of enthusiast hardware. And lets hope the physics aren't negatively impacted at higher frame rates.
