Mafia 3 PC performance thread

CRM1Xyc.jpg

Dunno, but I like blur in this game, I usually hate it with my gut, but here it looks fine to me. Also it's strange how well HUD is placed on 21:9 (2560x1080), only menu when you launch the game looks distorted.

Another thing I noticed, it's kind of okaaayyy in the city, doesn't feel much laggy @30 fps, but indoors it feels terrible. Also, even on SSD pop-ins are the issue in this game.

Motion Blur off and AA on low gives the best IQ for me, lol. Also, is the sun too bright at times ? It almolst looks like a graphical glitch.

You're a lifesaver bro, this worked for me, been trying for half an hour using my usual methods but this worked first try, should be in the OP!

The game unlocked at 12am here and he made that post around 20 minutes after I last refreshed the thread. Some of us have to sleep. ;)

I think it's an aesthetic choice to give the game a certain look befitting of the location.

That being said, the weather movement is way, way too fast when transitioning from extremes (i.e. day to night, stormy to clear) and needs to be patched.

this plays awful at 30fps. gona wait for the 60fps patch

Again, I think the cap is not the biggest problem here (if you use a controller)

These are the things I think are way worse:

-Blurry as hell
-Lighting is fucked up
-Animations (let's say some of them) are the worst I've seen in an AAA game in the last 6 years.
-IA is stupid(need to try hard mode).

This need the Batman AK treatment but is at least playable with no stuttering and stuff. I'm enjoying my time with it so far.

So how is the frame pacing on the PC with that 30fps cap? Does it display properly straight away or do it require external adjustment? I could deal with 30fps but only if frame persistence is even.

Maybe I can even hit 4K30? I'm tempted to try.

The game seems remarkably demanding. I can't hit a solid 30 FPS with a 980ti but maybe the newer cards can manage it.

At 4K? I would hope you could hit 30fps solid at 1440p or lower resolutions.

If not...then, yeah, this sounds bad.

Found this reshade preset to remove the blur and add a little bit of color from steam community.
http://sfx.thelazy.net/games/preset/6203/

Thank you so much for this! Ended up using that Reshade, and turned down the vibrance (it was too much color for me!) but SMAA worked wonders. I also turned their AA solution to Low because it was blurring everything. I think I'm where I want to be at 30fps thus far, 1440p, locked.

I've been loving the game - it's such a shame it launched so poorly, and the devs didn't put out honest performance statements before it released. It's hard to play at 30fps, it feels very sluggish but I just plugged in a controller and took in all the atmosphere.

There should be no problems at 1440p 30fps on a GTX980TI.

I could run it at 1440p but the swam area dropped hard to 20fps, probably because of vsync. On i5 6600k / GTX970

Hopefully 2K and co. at least release the patch into a beta branch tomorrow. There's so much to love, but I just wish the game was presented the way it deserves to be.

Nvidia released a driver for Gears, Shadow Warrior 2, and Mafia 3. I haven't checked it out yet.

Yeah I hope so too! There's a ton of promise here, the game is really awesome. I'm actually interested in seeing also how the console counterparts stack up to it. This engine I feel like is capable of running 60fps, it's not really a looker and it would be so much better for gun fights. Sometimes I feel like I'm swinging this analog stick to shoot and it's slow even at the highest sensitivities. Can't wait to go back to Kb/m.

Thanks for the driver link! I'm always slightly paranoid even on clean installs, so I'll probably get to it in a week or so. This game - the soundtrack is everything!

The new geforce experience isn't working for me, like at all. Nothing loads, up needs to close after a few seconds. It's so fucking bad and no one seems to be able to help me out.

Yeah, that's the one in the OP. I assumed there'd be a game-ready driver for the game, so I did some digging prior to making the thread.

Sorry about missing that, JaseC. It's been a long day.

Do you know if it provides any noticeable improvement?

It's not just blurriness, something is off with the assets too. Models and textures feel like they're low res. From the concrete you're driving on, the cars you're driving in, and props all around. I feel like Mafia II almost looked better than this. Maybe it's because we were spoiled by GTAV but it's just not on par. The cutscenes look amazing but those are pre-rendered so that's not comparable.

Also I've had some weird physics glitches here and there. Plus AI can do really stupid stuff like miss you 5 times even if they're right in front of your face.

Damnit I'm a huuuuuge fan of the series and I was looking forward to this so much. The 30 fps doesn't bother me so much, it's just that a lot of other stuff feels off. Why couldn't they just fix this for release and not a day or two after... It doesn't make much sense.

No harm, no foul! I actually haven't installed them myself yet, but I'd guess the 30fps cap makes it rather difficult to measure performance gains, which may also explain the complete and utter lack of benchmarks.

Played the first few missions at 4k, and it plays a damn sight better using a pad, but the UI is horrible as I have bad eyesight as it. Constant 30 FPS. I admit my eyes aren't good enough to notice subtle changes unlike other people.

I prefer playing games on M+K so a higher FPS in essential, The cut scenes and story is fine so far, but I am going to hold on until the patch even though I am itching to play more. I got used to the graphics in Quantum Break, so the blurriness is not that much of a problem.

I quite enjoy janky games, but I would of delayed the game to at least running better at higher resolutions, which a scalable UI. I am not some sort of PC snob, But its little things which make it annoying to play at the moment, On my old mid range pc I would happier I suppose.

So many things are just buggy... had a mission earlier where the dead guys didn't drop guns or ammo. So I just ran out of ammo. Had to stealth my way through the mission to get out - and no that was clearly not the intention.

And just now I'm supposed to drive some guy somewhere and the car doesn't start. The engine is literally stuttering. I sit there trying for a whole 2 minutes. Had to get out of the car and back in it for it to actually start. How can they overlook this kind of stuff?

Man I am really sad... This is such a horrible experience, my new 1070 gtx can't even get 30fps in 4K. Hovering at like 22fps.

Not only that the textures are really bad, and the overall look of the world such as the sun, fog is just so depressing looking, it looks so blurry, water has flickering shadows, just a mess.

I looked forward to this and can't believe after hour and half I am going to refund. Never have refunded a game before and am the last person that worries about graphics but it's just not my cup of tea.

I switched to 1080p and can't do it, just looks so bad... My new xbox one lunar controller is all over the place, I couldn't get out of the tutorial page when starting to drive, the British Upton wouldn't show up to close the tab and the keyboard didn't work.

Music sounds great and acting is nicely done...

Now you mention it, I take it there's no in game benchmark like Mafia 2 had? Another minus

Ok I have little hope seeing how bad it looks, from lighting to textures, weather to blur, not even talking about the fps cap... I was expecting something close at least Mad Mad, or GTA V.

Hell Mafia 2 looks better.

How does in run on 3440x1440 with 980Ti/1070 ?

The weather changes and lighting look hilarious. I hope the weekend patch fixes everything.

The patch 2K has fast-tracked is specifically to adjust/remove the framerate cap. I wouldn't expect it to address much if anything else at all.

Did they say they fast-tracked it? I think the patch was ongoing way before the game launch but still didn't make the deadline. 2K said fuck it, just launch and act like they didn't know. Now they get to seem like they act fast and gain back some goodwill. Maybe.

Edit: not doubting you. Genuine question. At work so can't scout for news much.

Yeah, I believe it's quite large company Hangar 13 and none from the development team haven't noticed it can't go above 30 fps, that doesn't make any bloody sense.
