Mafia 3 PC performance thread

The patch 2K has fast-tracked is specifically to adjust/remove the framerate cap. I wouldn't expect it to address much if anything else at all.

They mentioned other features in the update as well, so I hope it includes some overall fixes as well - perhaps Chromatic Aberration and Vaseline filter.

Did they say they fast-tracked it? I think the patch was ongoing way before the game launch but still didn't make the deadline. 2K said fuck it, just launch and act like they didn't know. Now they get to seem like they act fast and gain back some goodwill. Maybe.

Edit: not doubting you. Genuine question. At work so can't scout for news much.

It should be released this weekend:

Ah, yeah, I just reminded myself of that when pasting the above, haha.

Changing any keys in the settings means that no keys work anymore unless you reset them back to defaults.
If anyone else can't find out how to reset keys i found the answer on Reddit. C:\Users(Your Name)\AppData\Local\2K Games\Mafia III\Data(Your Profile ID)\profiles\temporaryprofile deleting everything in here reset it all for me.

Has it been mentioned that the blurry muddy IQ is part of the broken AA options?

- High AA introduces huge amounts of blur

- Medium AA is somehow massively clearer

No idea why

Because to them Certification must mean University of Phoenix.

And when you turn it off?

There is no way to turn it off. It goes Low Medium High, and as soon as you go to High all the text in the menu goes blurry as shit.

In game remains muddy due to the film grain or whatever other filter, but not as bad as with high AA. I'm on a gtx 1060, so no idea if this is card specific

Can you please post 2 comparison screens with Low vs High AA? Thanks

TAA that is agressive at doing its job (cleaning up aliasing at the cost of clarity), vs something far less agressive.

I do not think it is "broken" honestly from what I can see, just that it has side effects.

Slightly above Batman AK.

-30 fps lock.
-strange lighting/weather behavior (bug?).
-Rebinding keys doesn't work.
-Game doesn't save some settings like AA.
-IQ...
-Textures.

But at least it's running and it's playable. Which is nice, I guess.

Well, going to wait for steam holiday sale then. I do want to play this, but it seems like a mess right now.

I'm curious if the low res textures and vasoline filter is just in the PC version or if it's the same on the console versions as well. Anyone know?

Edit: Just went through the OT..sounds like the game crashes on xbox and ps4 too. Someone said they had been playing all 3 versions and counted 22 total crashes across all versions. Wow...

Hmm, how I set DSR for Mafia 3? I have DSR enabled from Nvidia Control Panel, Global Setting. I can't set DSR from program specific settings in control panel and Experience doesn't find Mafia 3 install yet.

Edit: nmv, figured it out. New resolutions came available in game menus.

WTF is wrong with trees in this game...

Yeah I had this going time 10 when I was cruising on a boat through the bayou. Seems like the game has surfaces produce some kind of reflection on the edges when it's raining, but the effect is way too pronounced and low res and doesn't scale well with distance.

I enabled DSR in my global setting and just went into options to change the resolution.

That quote doesn't fill me with confidence that we will be seeing a patch this weekend. The whole 'we will keep you updated on the progress of the patch throughout the weekend' statement, doesn't sound good. Hope I'm wrong.

A pc game needing a 60 fps patch is already suspect.

Those screens all look like trash too.

Guess there was a reason this game didn't have early review copies.

Besides of some technical issues [30FPS, AA causing blurriness...] game is tons of fun tho. I have played about 9-10 hours of it and had a lots fun with it because of well written and executed story. Side stuff is formulatic and samey, but at least 9-10 hours in it isn't bothering me.

Considering how little reviewers care about technical issues of the games I doubt technical issues were reason for holding review copies back.

Edit: Mafia 3 doesn't have cloth physics?

Okay, thanks for that - I think this might be a side effect of the monitor I had to use to test. It's only 1680x1050 - so it is really easy to see when something isn't native. Will be on the TV later so maybe it won't be as noticable

The textures in this game look like they all have some soft fur growing on them. I really don't like how washed-out everything looks like.

Controller support is so fucked right now. Not getting button prompts for things (and therefore being unable to do them). I'm using DS4Tool and a wired PS4 controller - I've never had issues like this.

I booted up the game and was welcomed by 1fps. I'm on a i7 4790k, R9 390 and 16gb of RAM. Don't have the latest drivers for Mafia III support, but shouldn't have that level of problems. Very weird.

I was having this issue too, but it seems resolved now. Try going to controller layout, selecting layout 1 and applying it (even if it's already applied). Then restart, ensuring that your controller is connected before the game starts.

Yeah, that is a mess, but the buttons work.

The layout is really frustrating though - in an attempt to map functionality, so much is "hold x too interact, press to reload" and stuff like that, adding this extra delay to everything. I'm working on a Steam Controller setup, which by the looks of the keybinding seems to suggest mouse and keyboard folk can bypass all that pausing between actions

Anyone else having trouble to start that car in front of the church?

You mean John Donovan's? Yeah I sat through like 80% of their convo thinking that I just had to listen to them before we could drive, but I got out of the car and back into and and it started up just fine.

Getting more than 30FPS...... in the loading screens. Otherwise performance is fine. Game isn't a looker for the most part though. But it is fun to play.

It doesn't start and I think it is intended to leave the car and take another one that is standing there. Also giving away by the dialogue when you enter a new car.

I'm so conflicted. Some of those screens look better with the reshade while other look worse. Some are just too vibrant. Almost fake looking.

The yellow filter gives some a more washed out look, which they should have if the sun is really strong. Going to wait and see if there are other fixes released.

Thanks for this!

You can just use sharpening without the saturation, Reshade is configurable.

See, I didn't even know it was hold-to-interact because I've never seen a prompt. The tutorials also get fucked up by not totally recognizing controllers.

Wow so the PC 30 fps lock is true and durante bat signal failed?

This is probably my most anticipated game for the rest of the year, so I am still buying (Best Buy discounts PC physical copy) but thats a shock for me given how good the prior games were on PC.
