Mafia 3 PC performance thread

Reflections seem to be the heavy hitter. On 1680x1050 monitor (that's all I have here)

All on high except AA on low = 45fps min

All on high except AA and Reflections on low = 63fps min

i5 6600k 3.9ghz
gtx 1060 6gb
16gb ram

Yeah I'm having a hard time believing this considering people with pretty good rigs are struggling to keep even 50fps.

Bullshit.

It's called Gysnc. That is why he doesn't notice the fluctuating framerate.

If you want to stop the fluctuating framerate, for now you have to put Reflections on Low, hopefully they optimize Reflections more for us poor folks without Gsync.

So this is annoying. This is how my menu screen looks like. 3440x1440

Wait - - I have never seen that menu

All I get is a continue game or new game

Yeah, that and Volumetric Effects are the two major FPS killers it seems. Oddly enough, the other settings seem to have almost no impact at all.

Same here. WTF?

Oh, and is anyone else getting constant crashes when fiddling with the graphics settings? I think I've crashed at least 3-4 times now. It's just an instant CTD, no error messages or anything.

Did quick and dirty test.

Dropped reflections to low, kept AA at medium and everything else to medium @ 1080p

Game still caps out my i5 6600K @ 4.2GHz, hitting that 99-100% usage, but game now keep 59 FPS without obvious stutters. Game looks kinda awful with these settings and hogs all HW so not sure that 60FPS is worth it in this cae.

this looks like one of those games I'll buy once the devs scramble around enough for weeks to release patches to optimize this game properly and fix the annoying issues. I have a 1070 and if people with 1080s can't even keep steady 60 I'm not going to bother, nothing I've seen of this game warrants this performance.

Was PC an after thought?

The consoles versions don't seem much better.

The seems to have a good story and good characters but is a technical mess.

Shame, I'll pick it up when it's under £4 on a sale.

I've seen the Xbox One version and it appears much worse.

Oh wow game looks so good now!
Patch made the game awesome btw. Everything is so smooth no stuttering that I'm noticing at least. Gsync doing gods work.

Just added that reshade too and it looks much better without all that blur.

Interiors are really dark though (Saw he's working on it)

What a clusterfuck. Another page to the book of never pre-ordering shit, so happy I didn't put any money to this crap.

Bullshit.
I7 5820k 4.3ghz, 16gb ram, 980ti G1 overclocked and game runs like a dream at 1440p maxed out (AA set to low) on my gsync monitor. Couldn't care less if you think it's bullshit. I'd rather have a solid smooth game than high fps with stuttering like most games nowadays.

This is starting to look a lot like the Arkham Knight situation. Now that I think about it, Arkham Knight had a 30 fps cap too (though you could edit that through .ini)
Hopefully they'll also patch performance.

Not even close. Arkham Knight is still a terrible mess, even with all the updates. You simply can't brute force that game, it is coded horribly.

People may not like it, but Mafia 3 is perfectly playable at 30 FPS. It seems to be playable at 60 FPS if you have top tier hardware. The game needs optimization, that's apparent.

Really? This is what I get when I press options on the right:

After that I'm stuck. Escape doesn't work and nothing takes me back to the main menu.

When you play at 21:9 the main menu is borked when you start the game, there's nothing you can do about it right now. Just get into the game, and everything is fine menu wise after that.

Quick test on 5820K(4.5Ghz), NV 1080, 32GB RAM @ 1080 (lol)

Everything maxed (vsync off), drove across map (through city etc), purposely had some big crashes.

One dip to 55fps, rest of the time it was above 60fps, usually around 75fps.

What would be the equivalent console settings on the PC version? Doesn't seem like people with i7s and GPUs that are 2-4+ times faster should be having that much trouble hitting 60FPS if the game wasn't a sloppy port.

Feels so much better unlocked.

Is going to be hard to get 60 locked for most people. Seems like a game made for Gsync, even with a lot of tweaking there's going to be dips into the 50s on a 1080 at 1440p.

Game uses CPU like crazy. All 8 threads are like pinging in the 70% usage, haven't seen that sort of behavior in games often.

No it's not...

This game looks like mud - runs fine, but my god why are all of the textures from a launch PS3 game.

There's some nice FX in there. I see subsurface scattering, and the beginnings of some PBR, but it is all buried under really blurry shit.

I actually think Mafia 2 might have had superior texture work at this stage. It might just be that they somehow left out the higher res textures for some reason?

is there a cpu yet that can keep fps from dropping below 60 when driving/flying?

I have 980ti and i76700k@4.5 and never had any problems with the framerate. Steady 60+ while driving, flying, heavy action scenes. But I understand lots of people had/have performance issues with it.

Yeah.. especially when there's barely any difference between low and high settings.

barely? can someone point out any differences to me, please?
the ear seems to be a bit sharper on low, that's all I see

I am very tempted to buy and download now, I just love the setting
but maybe I should just way until the opimzite it and buy it on a sale

what are the chances they manage to do that?

I honestly cant tell a difference

Lol indeed. Indoors, the differences are pretty minimum but it looks more apparent outside. For example, lighting is a bit different and the sun is kinda missing at low settings in this video. PC is clearly an afterthought.

Same, No Mans Sky was the straw that broke the camels back. Never pre-ordering a game again, which tbf is pretty easy since I don't play much nowadays anyway.

Game is definitely running much better on my 970 after the patch. I'm getting a constant 55 to 58fps with no stuttering. I have everything set to high except reflections (low) and volumetric effects (medium). I played a fair bit before the patch and had to turn v-sync to adaptive just to avoid hitching at 30 and most of my settings were at medium.

i7 3930k @ 4.5ghz with 16gb and a Titan X here.

Game's a hideously unoptimised POS, but I've managed to get it to a relatively stable 55+.

Volumetric = Low
Reflections = Low
AA = Low
Geometry = High
Shadows = High
AC = High
Vsync = On

It looks reasonably good, but I'm getting the sense that for some reason, this thing is capped to 58fps rather than 60. Anyone experiencing anything similar?

Minimum drops while driving, or in weather effects such as rain.

The game's reasonably fun, I guess. The shooting seems quite cool. Maybe further optimisation will improve it, but it's already leagues above the console versions.

You're wrong. You can't drive around or fly around the city without constant hitching/stuttering. There is no GPU and CPU combination that can brute force through the horribly coded LOD. It's better than at launch, but by no means is it good.

I can, atleast when on foot and flying. In the batmobile there might be the occasional stutter. But it's certainly not constant. And I'm usually sensitive to stuttering, so it's not like I have a high tolerance.
Either the game varies a lot depending on the system, or it might just be a diffrent part of the city that stutters, admittedly I haven't played that far in the game.

Nope, an i5 6600k isn't going to cut it. First time the CPU is at 100 %. Huge bummer, don't know if I should just cap it at 30 and call it a day, since I have no gsync monitor.

Even with the reshade stuff, it just reeks of sharpening, and there are few graphical band-aids that I hate more than sharpening.. I'll just wait for them to hopefully release a real patch.
