Magic: Planeswalkers (PC) Thread of Better than MTGO

Yep, I haven't played the game in several years and so will need to play around a bit to get the hang of the new cards/rules. It shouldn't take too long though :D I'm glad you (or anyone that wasn't me :P) made the group. I don't have the ambition/patience to oversee and organize activities >.> I've done it before, I have no intention of doing so again hah.

Do whatever you want and we'll probably be down for it. At least this is a game I can play while at work too <.< Well, I did play some TF2 earlier at work too *whistles*

Whatever we do we'd have to limit how many times each deck can be used. There is a pretty big spread in terms of the power of the weak and strong decks in this game but it's quite fun to try them all out.
Yeah - in that last GAF tourney we had, the Green/Black deck was used a ton, though the White deck had a better win % and the Black deck did really well against the G/B matchup but didn't fare well against White.

Yep, and the nice thing is now with the expansion we have three more decks to play with. If we were going to do tournament we could easily limit it to just single-use.

If people buy the game in the next 12 hours :O

So somebody in the Wizards forum said the co-op campaign would be online. Not official word though so take that with a large grain of salt. Would be really cool though.

Never got into MTG, or any ccg for that matter, though I've always loved Magic's artwork. Went ahead and pre-ordered to get a taste.

This had better be fun Magic-GAF.

Disappointingly but unsurprisingly co-op is local-only and requires a controller for the second player. Won't get a chance to play until late tonight but just relaying info.

Ah, maybe they'll add it in the future (hopefully). Got into a long drawn out duel with the AI, both using the same deck, mostly. I lost because I ran out of cards :(

Just got home....getting my download started!

Laaaaaaaame :(

I'm super happy this runs well on my ghetto Intel integrated graphics. I turned the effects, etc. down but this is great. No more solitaire!

Having spent tons of hours on the 360 version, it's a bit of a shock having to start from scratch again. Oh well.

Im finding this difficult to play due to bugs.

Exit deck editor, exits to menu screen with no menus. Look at leaderboard and scroll down, crashes. Haven't be able to enter a single player match using the random match feature.

Achievement list also doesn't show correctly.

Very poor port, according to the Steam forums though WOTC is working on a patch now.

Bah that's annoying. The XBLA one is buggy too (occasional crashes) though not game-killingly so by any stretch. Fine here so far but I've just been playing a couple matches in Campaign with green and haven't messed around with much else except the settings. If you're trying to play quicker I'd recommend turning off damage effects and view played cards (the latter is quite useful your first pass through each deck though). Also you can middle mouse button click to view cards.

So, when i got started steam showed me a message saying i should sign up at the planeswalker website/sync with steam user for something and gave me a web adress. I closed that by mistake, what was that ? any way i can do it ?

It's a link to register for your free foil card, which you have to print out a voucher for and take to a WotC store or something.

If you want to see it, right-click Planeswalkers in your library, there should be a "manage account" option.

So at first I was like oh cool foil cards ("cool" is a stretch but still, XBLA one doesn't have them last I checked). Then I realized there is a (currently non-working) option to "convert" your cards to foil. :lol Oh WotC.

Yeah, as a added bonus my game crashed when I clicked on it!

I was sooooo excited to play this and the tutorial got me even more hyped...but the bugs are so horrible I might shelve it until they get a patch out. :( I can't alt-tab without the game locking up, can't do any out-of-program hotkeys like volume adjustment on my laptop without freezing...crashes when I go into deck customization...I haven't even gotten into a real game yet. Apparently these problems are more prevalent for ATI users...I might try it on my nvidia machine later. MIGHT.

Been awhile since I played a game released in such a poor state. I would not recommend it to anyone as-is; at least try the demo to see if you can get it to run properly. I'm going to give it a couple more attempts (skipping deck customization I suppose...sigh) but I have about had it.

I will add any Steam IDs in here operating under the assumption that we'll be able to get some matches going later...mine is the same as my gaf name. I hope the game is stable enough for a tournament sooner rather than later.

That stinks some of you are having a lot of problems :/ I have an ATI 4870 and haven't had any problems (yet), Win7 64 OS... I hope it gets sorted for you all soon.

I've also had it lock up every time I try to alt-tab in fullscreen, had to start playing it in Windowed. Even still I get an occasional crash from time to time. Also, either the sound effect for when you mouse over menu options is fucking terrible or there is a real bad static sounding distortion bug there. It's obnoxious.

Pretty obvious it's a crappy port. Runs pretty nice when it's actually going though, plays a nice fast streamlined game of Magic. Seems like it'll get old quick though with the limited decks... oh well. $10 ain't terrible either way.

I almost want to double dip on this. The factor would be how many people are online after the first month.

XBLA version usually has at least 4 games up to 12 open at any given time, so I would dip dip if the Steam version has at least 25 games on average to join.

Edit: Then again this doesn't have steamplay (maybe some day?) so I might as well just play the trial of MTGO even though the interface is crap.

The Quick Match thing rarely finds games.

People kicked me at first because I apparently had sound on. I resolved that though. Some guys hate me now, I guess.

Shame because so far, everyone I've played against was pretty much cannon fodder. I beat one dude with -51 (I played green, so.. yeah).

Where are the good players?

I played a match against the AI and enjoyed, but then went to edit deck and got the crash you guys are talking about. Probably won't need to edit much for AI fighting in the early going, so hopefully I don't suffer too much prepatch.

I'll play you :) I'm not saying I'm particularly good, but I'm decent :P Is there a way to meet up in game? I don't have a headset yet either...

The card draws make me rage so much some times. Went like 8 turns without a creature showing up as the AI mounted a comeback. I almost threw the mouse out the window. :lol

Haven't tried customizing my deck, but I have beaten the first level character in single player. Was damn fun, and quite a challenge too! Won at 1 HP, taking her down to negative 20 in the final turn.

Think I'm going to like this one.

Downloading and excited.

I can't believe that I live just outside of Atlanta and all the shops that have the bonus card are about an hour or more away. I'm surrounded by shops that run magic tournaments, but none of them have the bonus card.

If anyone wants to play a Magic newcomer, hit me up on Steam at "Oldats [qt3]"; I'm also in the NeoGAF Planeswalkers group.

huuuurrr duuuuuurrrrr deeerrrp

I even posted on this thread yesterday, and I fucking forgot to preorder it. Im duuuuuumb hurrrrr.

Meh, still got it. Hit me on steam if you want some quick matches, I'm normally not really good at the game but sometimes I can shine and get an awesome move from I don't now where :)

Steam ID: itxaka

Edit:

Holy hell, I got 1 promotional car and a free deck as well? Awesome. Totally worth it, I can now have an excuse to get my GF another deck! :lol

Finally had some good matches with a guy from Sweden, he beat me a bunch of times. Didn't seem very experienced because he took so long, but he played well, so it's okay.

About how to match up: I think we have to be friends because the thing has a button that says "Invite Friends" and that's it.

So friend me, I guess. Edit: Search for wmat in the community tab.

Sweet, give me your Steam name and we'll sort this out.
I don't have a headset yet either...
That's good, I don't do voicechat.

I got your invite so you found me :P I tried to invite you earlier but I guess it didn't work? Want me to try again or do you want to try another time?
