Magic: Planeswalkers (PC) Thread of Better than MTGO

I'm working like a madman to unlock the good stuff from my favorite decks to get in on the next tourny round, add me to the list or whatever. Does adding friends and such go by account name or user name?
 
Just uses the Steam friends list. Schedule allowing, I'd be happy to do another tournament fairly quickly after this one, if this one goes smoothly. If it's the kind of thing where half the people disappear probably not though. Could go either way really atm.

-feel free to play your games AS SOON AS THEY ARE SET, regardless of whether they are in round 2 or 3 or loser's bracket or whatever. you can always check here: http://www.bracketmaker.com/tmenu.cfm?tid=367978
-don't forget there is a loser's bracket so you still have another matchup after you lose.
 
Don't rule me out! Going to try to get this done today...wanted to give my opponent a little time to unlock decks and stuff. He's not online atm but I plan to start prodding as soon as I see him.

Just give me a heads up when you are ready to organize our matches. Between the WC and building this patio deck, the more notice the better so I can try to plan around it.

It's also sickening how often the game comes down to which person top decks their bomb first.

No, you get a preconstructed deck and as you beat NPCs/other players you'll unlock cards for that deck. Those cards can be added to your deck or left in the sideboard. Otherwise you cannot edit your deck at all. Also, land count is automatic, so you can't tweak your mana curve to account for landgrabs/fetches either.
 
I really want a deck-editing Magic game. I have an Emeria, The Sky Ruin deck IRL, and I want to play people online with it. Sadly, I don't see that happening unless I get MTGO (fuck that).
 
Was apprentice or magic workstation discontinued?
 
They're magic simulation apps developed independently of Wizards of the Coast. You can play people online with them and the coders regularly release digital versions of new blocks. There's little art and no fancy graphics like MTGO or DOTP, and all card effects need to be explicitly resolved by the players themselves so it's pretty bare bones in that respect. But for a pure magic experience it pretty much trumps both the official versions because you get to make your deck however you want with whatever cards exist. Which means less being envious of that guy with the Vialffinity deck and more playing it for yourself.

I'm not sure if they're still supported at the moment though.

My god, timer fucked me TWICE, and i missclicked an enchantment on a creature. FUCK!

Wish we could play the real thing without all this frustrating stuff :( lol

ecoshifting played a great game though, deserved win.
 
U/B Artifice just blocked my 6/6 venerable monk with his Platinum angel.

Nice work on the AI guys!

Also, finally realized with the artifacts deck has howling mines in it:

It's to provide discard fodder for masticores.

I feel like firebreathing is out of place in a three color deck. I'd trade all these breathers for one more Flameblast dragon. Shit is overpowered.
 
That reminds me, there was a lame bug to watch out for...SS enchanted a Grizzly Bear with that nasty green enchant...you know, the forest = +1/+1 thing...I used the blue creature control enchant...and it kept counting his forests for the armor's total (should have been +0/+0). I had to just pretend it wasn't there...
 
Not a bug, although the bear belongs to you, the enchant still belongs to your opponent, and so it counts their forests.

Exact same thing happened to me when I used Threaten.

As much as I love B/R/G I can't really trust it to do what I want it to. It's too inconsistent, and I find myself narrowly winning games against NPCs because the AI doesn't know when to go for the kill.

It's a shame though, Naturalize, Incinerate and Terror all in one deck, along with the most awesome dragons available.

I think the red deck (Hands of Flame) is by far the weakest. It runs out of steam very quickly and all you need to do to beat is gain some life and chump block his Lightning Elementals. The AI will usually waste his removal spells either on you or by removing low-threat creatures.

G, R/G are good against Jace's decks. They just don't have enough answers to match your creature drops as their decks are filled with lackluster flyers.

Don't use B, B/R/G vs any black deck because terror becomes situational. W/R/G in general is a piece of shit. So are U/W and U. Artifice deck is pretty bad as well unless you get a perfect hand. W is consistent, but also loses steam very fast unless you unlock some of the heavier angel drops.

Also I firmly believe the U deck is the easiest to beat up on. As long as you have some kind of answer for air elemental or mahamoti jinn you have it won.

We were still getting plenty of bugs :l Had to restart the first one because jlhc wasn't able to activate abilities or zoom in on cards.
 
Pretty fast sets aside from the bugs. Couldn't use any expansion 1 cards for some reason so had to edit the decks to compensate. Then the first game started and I had a solid hand and play going but I couldn't zoom the cards nor play the abilities of the cards for some reason. I could still cast spells though so we restarted. Second game I had to mulligan but still kept drawing lands. Third game I was mana hosed and only stuck with two opening lands for a while. Fourth game I still had to mulligan with no opening lands but I then lost fair and square.

Regardless, it was Fjord's win. Congrats. ;p

This happened in the first match between me and TheExodu5, seemed to be caused when I tried to tap Fountain of Youth. There were a couple of other netcode bugs we hit but that was the only one that actually killed a match (luckily it was within the first few turns).

Well I only noticed it around the third turn or so. It didn't seem to be triggered by anything in particular as there wasn't any permanents with abilities until I tried to use mine which didn't work.

Yeah, it's been kind of hard to find matches sometimes, I'm often not sure if it's because the matchmaking process is a buggy xbla leftover affair or if there are just no games. At any rate, I've been sharpening up for the next tourney (which I certainly hope happens) and have started doing pretty well. I won my first 4 player free-for-all last night which was crazy, although I only did so because the other 3 mainly went after eachother because I didn't appear to be much of a threat. I also had a really awesome duel today where someone's "make your opponent discard tons of cards" blue/white deck hit a snag when after discarding a ton of my cards I summoned a 13/13 mortivore. That.. that was a thing of beauty.
 
I've been working on unlocking cards, got the white deck fully unlocked and have the black deck at 13/20. Hopefully my match in the losers' bracket won't be quite so one-sided.

Yeah, some of those matches could've gone differently with the side decks.

Looking forward to my next opponent :D. (Jackoftheshadows send me a steam invite!)
