Major Nelson addresses the Xbox One issues

Impossible task for him to actually answer most of those questions in a satisfying manner. I really enjoyed the way he pretended to not know what people outside the US would be missing out on with the XBO, then segued into a brief mention of Netflix like it's up to them to expand to more regions. Very deft!

What were the questions?

Yep most probably they didn't have anyone to answer those questions at the time. Or a scheduling conflict. Sony has been very open about the hardware since February. I don't think MS on the other hand has even released a spec sheet

That's what it seems like to me. None of those questions seem like things Sony is scared to answer, or maybe somethings aren't finalized.

I don't really like the "don't worry about it yet" answer to the first question. I think it's important to know if I can play my copy of Killer Instinct 20 years from now before I begin to invest money into this system.

There is a massive difference between cancelling standard E3 round table interviews and cancelling a friggen REDDIT interview. I mean really. The former indicates that MS was in panic mode.

Not really. Reddit probably gets more traffic than a lot of those other sites, and the questions are coming directly from posters, not journalists. They had the interview scheduled, and cancelled after they saw the questions.

I'm not saying Sony has something to hide, I just thought it was strange that people were saying "lol" when people were saying it was strange that they cancelled an interview.

TITANFALL TITANFALL TITANFALL TITANFALL

haha I read that in his voice

Take Major Nelson's word over Xbox Support.

It means you can't play games that require multiplayer, so don't be an asshat! :P
Completely reasonable to ban people from multiplayer if they do something bad enough to get banned.
I've been an Xbox Live member for over 8 years, never got a ban.
I was banned once for something written in my motto, where I stated if you spout racist obscenities online please do not friend me. Someone felt offended by it, reported it, and MS banned me for a month. They're very fair and just.

"TITAN FALL! ENOUGH SAID!"

That part made me laugh. I'm not completely sold on that game, and if I do get sold on it, I'll get it on PC.

Street dates are meant to be kept. I see no problem with that. They don't know you legally bought it. If I made a game and I saw someone playing it before it's released, I'd be suspicious too.

What if the store breaks the Street date. And i inadvertantly buy the game from the store.
When i go home and pop the game in the Console.. should I be BANNED for playing a game I bought from a store?

Well, they confirmed the number of stream processors now all we need is the clock.

Historically seen that most of the time means down clocks :(
Don't think they are tinkering with the gpu not this late.

But could also mean why they are launching in such a limited amount of countries.
And dam dat interviewer i luv redheads real or fake. :p

That interviewer was terrible. Nodding her head like a muppet after everything he said and actually agreeing with his PR-speak with reinforcements like "good point" after everything he said.

Microsoft has their hooks in Reddit, right? They haven't seemed independent in this at all. Nuking threads about the no DRM hashtag campaign was weird. This is worse.

Missing out on what besides third party content?

I thought this was about family sharing. Disappointed. I hope this guy clears it first thing in monday morning.

Yo Templar_Dante, Microsoft haven't announced their spec officially yet and downclocking the rumoured GPU by 600gflops makes you look silly.

You think their going to come out and say that? lol. When little Jimmy wakes up Christmas morning and wonders why theres a downgrade, you'd still hear them saying its untrue. RROD denial style.
Either way, thats a HD7790 in the box and I have my reservations about what they showed and its capabilities. Its still a low to mid GPU.

Man Geoff would have destroyed those answers.

Geoff: Family plan is the reason disks are useless after install huh? Why cant that family feature be only for digital purchases, with disks being out of the digital feature? That would sound more flexible to me, I mean all games launch digitally right? If a customer wants to utilize the family feature for their games they'd choose the digital game I'd think, no?

Geoff: Majority of the world is connected? Africa is large, you mean a majority of it is connected? Have you seen the chart btw?

Geoff: Why not talk about the future and possible loss of Xbox One purchases. This is something people need to know, you want to sweep it under the rug huh? ... Oh Microsoft is too big to do that? Didn't you guys do that for Xbox1 er the first Xbox?

have a feeling there's more to this then we're being told, for one what don't we know about the hardware? Sony has been very open about what's inside the PS4 and Reddit mods have spread BS in the past IIRC
I have a feeling there is less to this than what's being implied.

So he sidesteps most of the questions and instead talks about family sharing. Okay.
There are two near-universally positive feels going for the Xbone right now - the ephemeral family sharing plan and TitanFall.

He covered both of those. Well played Major. Well played ;P

What is your target audience with the Xbox One? Many of your features can not be accessed or are stripped down for markets outside the US. Why should someone who can't use your features access the Xbox One?
"The console is built for the future, and a majority of the world is now connected. So I'm not sure which features they are not going to get. If they are talking about things like Netflix and things like that, that is certainly a content provider discussion, and that exists today. That is not an Xbox problem, that is an industry problem."

That is very much an Xbox problem.

Is this guy for real...

Whats the one question you would liked to have be asked but haven't?

"Probably about the family package."
"I don't really have an answer to that question. It's awesome!""

Sorry but what a total & utter prick!!!

Seems like a bunch of questions that they simply dont have an answer to yet

Yes. until you can prove otherwise. Realistically though, I'm sure with the new policies this time around, the system most likely won't let you play it until the release date. Similar to preloading something on steam. I don't think it would be a problem.

Yeah, that was... nuts. I'm going to assume he was tipsy and had the hots for the interviewer.

I wish Major Nelson (or someone at Microsoft) would give straight up answers to the questions about those two issues. It's a god damn joke.

I like Major Nelson as a person but i have a hard time trusting him, he denied the esram issue in regards to lower yields iirc yet there seems to be limited XO available for launch and he definitely said the interviews were cancelled due to scheduling conflicts which as we know was not true.

I think he's going to have a hard time this year. When he started the Major Nelson thing, Microsoft was riding high on being the game industry's darling at the launch of the 360 while Sony was the villain. We saw cracks in the easy ride during the RRoD debacle, especially all the denial that there was a systemic problem up until Microsoft finally admitted it. Now he's in a position he's not been in for a long time -- defense. Plus, Microsoft is not the same place anymore, the execs in charge now are soulless bean counters, not the J Allards and Seamus Blackleys of yesterday.

My guess if that if Microsoft does not correct its image problem by launch we'll see Major Nelson's blog and podcast cease to exist. Microsoft will want to more tightly control the PR message and my guess is he'll move on to another job somewhere else.

Um... those dont sound like questions Sony would be shaking in their boots to answer. In fact, most of them were asked to Shuhei Yoshida and he said their not finalized yet.

There are two near-universally positive feels going for the Xbone right now - the ephemeral family sharing plan and TitanFall.

He covered both of those. Well played Major. Well played ;P

Thats a question I would love to ask MS, once you set your "family", are there any catches?
Im ASSUMING you cant change them again.
You would pay to change them.
Ofcourse, Major Nelson wont answer that.

I find it very interesting he's saying the system has been built with maximum flexibility in mind, yet we get some of the most rigid and restrictive measures put upon us that we have ever seen in this hobby. :-/

Also, I don't like the answer to the question: would we be losing our games at the end of the generation when the servers go offline?
Stating how they need to first get the system out there and it's way to early to talk about the end of its life cycle and the implementations of the servers being taken offline for instance is a major issue. Not something that should be discarded just because its a bit early to be thinking about this.

I for one would not want to buy a couple of hundred games as I do for every system I buy, and then possibly get to a nasty surprise at the end of the systems shelf life.
Without clarity on issues such as these, I will not begin to invest in the system at all.
