Man asks Elon Musk for Job

Someone explain to me what the hell is going on and where are they? Is it like a livestream of a speedrun at a conference where they ask for donations?
It's a couch speedrun. I never heard of this kind of competition (?) until I watched the video.

I haven't seen it yet but going by the posts ITT my assumption that it was a feel good story of a guy down on his luck asking for some entry level job and getting it done was wrong.

This is kinda made me sad. A bunch of nervous kids, some with mental disorders have their awkwardness put on blast for all the internet to see.
Yeah, honestly anyone laughing at this should really think about what it actually is. The dude asking Musk is fair game IMO, he's a grown ass man straight up asking for a position of power in the company. He seemed to have an ego problem and people with huge egos deserve to be taken down a notch.

The Minecraft video on the other hand shows a bunch of kids nervously asking questions in front of hundreds of others, including the devs of their favorite game. Many of them seem very awkward beyond the general awkwardness of being a kid. They mustered the courage to get up there and speak and then get laughed at just for being themselves.

Regarding the kids with general nervousness or awkwardness, that's just a part of socialization and growing up. We've all done embarrassing stuff as kids and honestly that's how you learn and mature. Those kinds of experiences stick with you and serve as little reminders to avoid those kinds of social situations.

No way he was serious about that...

I bet he had this awesome joke question scenario in his head and then bombed horrifically without knowing a way out. That would be my guess

If he was so delusional to ask these things I think he would have maintained confidence throughout instead of breaking into a billion shards. Regardless, when I remember something embarrassing I've done I'll think of this video and then go about my day in peace.

That wasn't cringeworthy. Just fucking rude as hell.

Fuck that mustache guy.

What? The guy making all the comments was being super annoying, and the mustache guy, the guy speedrunning the game, is losing his focus. After all, he is trying to complete the game as quickly as possible, it requires skill and concentration. The couch people are supposed to aid the audience or be funny, the guy was being neither. He was just being stupid.

When did Super Mario Brothers U get here??

I actually LOLed in my office.

The guy is an idiot. He actually thought his supposed intelligence alone would land him an executive position? 😂😂
How it went down in his mind the night before.

Musk: "So you say you're a genius huh? Can you start work tomorrow at 8am sharp?"

Dumbass: "Sir, if you don't mind, I'll be there an hour early."

The cringe of that entire question and his entire like confidence in that question...it was just awkward. And the laughing....oh god. I feel for him but....level 2 though?

At least he's keeping his options open in applying for a future open CEO position. Sucks I never see those posted on CareerBuilder...

This guy is amazing. He has two self published Kindle books full of insight, which I read the samples of with a friend until I was crying laughing. Some samples:

His other book is full of sayings, like "The man on the street can steal your wallet. The man in the office can steal your life savings".

Copious and Loathe are "fancy"/"big" words now? What?!

Is there anything that's the opposite of Imposter Syndrome? Like where you have nothing going for you but feel like it's a result of a series of coincidences and any day the entire world will recognize your greatness? I've encountered this to various degrees in the tech industry.

Too bad for him a level 3 had ask for a job just before him.

I feel bad now, if this guy and Musk are level 2 I'm like a level 0.1.

The Dunning-Kruger effect?

Basically it's when someone is so clueless as to their lack of skill that they think they're actually highly skilled.

Or do you mean someone with real skills that perceives that they've just been unlucky until now?

I've suffered some devastating lapses in self-awareness in my time, but this guy is next level. Thank goodness I'm not him and never will be. God damn.

I envy Musk less after watching him field those questions.

i think the dunning-kruger effect works both ways, with the imposter syndrome being one side of it. it's about over- and under-estimation of personal abilities.

Their research also suggests that conversely, highly skilled individuals may underestimate their relative competence, erroneously assuming that tasks that are easy for them also are easy for others.

His genius practically—no, literally—leaps from the letters. Brb, I need to find a fly swatter.

Check out all those Fancy Educated Words. That author is really discriminatory.

Apparantly the guys has a youtube channel where he had a 10 hour video of him talking about his intelligence. He took the video down by now, though.
He also has a soundcloud because he is a rapper/producer. Go check his stuff out.
Doesn't seem like a troll to me, just a very weird human beeing.

There's a section in the book literally called "Sex Hustle". It's not in the sample, though, and I do not wish to pay $30 for a used copy to find out what is inside.

These used to be available as eBooks for $1 or $2 each and I debated buying them but held off. Now they are gone.
